wish I could, but I am still a little paranoid. At first I would only post under "private discussions" because I just didn't ant my information broadcast all over the world. Have just now gotton a little more comfortable posting in other areas. Still, I would prefer at this point that the info would be open to "members only" if I should decide to share it.

How Many of us Have Shared Our Stories on JWD ? Helps us Know you Better
by flipper injust thought of starting this thread because of the problem of living in an emotionally disconnected society as we do.
some of us have shared our personal stories with you all, my wife and mine was , " the story of mr. & mrs. flipper ".
i think it would be good to share some insight into ourselves , then perhaps others on the board will be understanding more deeply about posts that we start.

All right, which one of you guys did it?
by RisingEagle in(j/k but i do wish to subscribe to your newsletter).
i had an interesting dinner conversation a few evenings ago with my staunch jw 'rental unit.
it started out with the usual small talk that eventually led to them bringing up the plane crash with the rbc members.

there was a recent post about a DF'd person calling KH to hear the talk via phone instead of going to hall. Someone asked another one on this board to tape the talk. Maybe it was for the Oct. 15th talk. Not sure. Anyway, maybe that is what they meant by phone lines being infiltrated. If so, that means that Borg IS in fact monitoring this board and must feel a little shakey about their cover being blown.

Is the "marking" policy of the Society defunct or still officially used?
by yaddayadda inin my over 30 years as a jw, i honestly can't recall ever hearing about anyone who was being officially "marked" pursuant to the society's "marking" policy based on 2 thess 3:14. .
in fact, i havn't read anything about their strange "marking" policy in years.
this makes me wonder if the society still has confidence in it and still officially endorses it?

Many years ago I knew an elderly woman who lived on popcorn and barley grass. Her mantle was covered with pictures of children, all in nice frames. The photographs were xeroxed--not even a real print. I asked who they were. She smiled and said "those are all of my children." I knew she was a little whacky by then. I asked "where are they?" She said "they all live in different places. Actually, they are my adopted children." As the conversation progressed, I realized that she had been heavily contributing to all these scams like "save the children" "missions for africa" "sponsor an urchin" etc etc. She showed me letters "her children" had written her. They were xeroxed, too. Maybe her poor eyesight prevented her from realizing everything was xerox. After a few months, the letters were just duplicates of earlier letters. Even some of the photos were duplicates, but she framed them all.
Many people here have also given lots of money to a fraudulent scam called the WBTS.
So really, giving in good faith, somehow believing that we are/were doing something good and worthwhile to help our fellow human beings.....who is ultimately responsible for the misuse? Those who have duped us or we ourselves for being so gullable? If god judges the heart, would it be favorable to him...knowing that we meant good? Or would we be judged critically as not discerning what is right and true and not using the brains he gave us to full capacity?

The Very Peculiar Fear of Satan
by R.F. inas we know, jws tend to have a very strong fear of satan.
after thinking back, i can't believe the extent to which the concept of satan has gripped many jws with fear.. for instance, there was a member of my congregation whose feelings i hurt unintentionally.
i still believe that if they would've stopped and thought about it that i meant no harm, but since they were hurt i apologized.

I always thought they were a little bizarre.
One of my JW friends refuses to shop in thrift stores for fear the used stuff might come with demons attached from whoever they belonged to last.
Another JW I know...everytime she has problems with any equipment...blender, mixer, a/c ...whatever. She blames demons in it. I said well why don't you give it to me? But no. If she continues to use it and have problems, she will throw it out. She wont give it to someone else or have someone fix it. She does not want to be blood guilty of passing on demonized stuff.
Another JW friend will put fingers to lips ssshhhh. Then point around. What? I ask. Somebody might hear you. What? Nobody is here. Friend points around. Demons might here and use it against you. (Thats if you are talking about something you might get in trouble about. Or discussing something questionable.)

.......... the "Great Tribulation" when no one will be able to "buy or sell" without "THE MARK".
Eclipse: Can someone explain what this means? As a JW I have never heard this theory before. It sounds intriguing.
- Revelation 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
Revelation 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. (666)- The great tribulation comes before Armageddon.
- Also, as far as "having faith" that god will provide: this to me, does not mean sitting on your butt and waiting for manna to drop from the sky.
- For example: If you have faith in the weather forecast and hear its going to rain...do you make a preparation and take your umbrella? If not, then you did not have faith in the weather forecast. Having faith does require for you to take an action.
- To walk is an action. So even the phrase "walk by faith" demonstrates that living faith requires action.
- "Remembering without ceasing your Work of faith , and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;"
1st Thessalonians 1:3
- I think perhaps some people confuse the meaning of faith vs hoping or wishing.
