i'm looking at the richmond and toronto apostafest pics and i'm longing for company.. it's been a really long time since i enjoyed good company and warm friendship.

even before we became inactive our friendships with witnesses had waned.. i really am very social.

Hi. I know how you feel. I moved to a new location a while back and don't know anyone here; if anyone were to ask me today..."where are your friends?" right now I would have to say in this box. Yep. Y'all are my friends in a box.

Changeling, one day, I am going to invite you to come stay with me for a couple of weeks. I know its not the same as having a group over and familiar surroundings, but maybe you can start to enjoy traveling? Mini-vacations?

Difference Between Catholics and Witnesses

i have recently seen one thread about the differences between the witnesses and those other religions.

so i will explain some of my earlier experiences as a catholic and contrast them to the witness experience.. my family was active as a catholic when i was about 6 or so.

we had to salute the flag, and we got to play with other children and go on class trips that also made major markers in life.

Catholic priests keep confessionals sacred and secret. Confession is voluntary.

JW's and Elders blab it to the whole neighborhood and hold court over it. Confessions are sought after by bored elders.

most religious organizations have: choir directors, charity chairman (clothes closet and pantry), family night co-ordinators (regular wed. night dinner served at church hall), fellowship co-ordinators (picnics, receptions, etc), extracuricular activities chairman ( holiday events and parties), field events co-ordinator (day trips and sr. groups out-of -town excursions)....

all the wtbs has is a judicial committee...

so doesn't that set them up to be a judgemental religion????

Question : How Rich Is The Watchtower ?

from previous posters, we have had access to the watchtower's accounts (uk), and especially the related company (ibsa), but... apparantly accounts are not as easily available in america.. does that apply to canada too ?.

how much the organisation is worth worldwide ?how much profit the organisation makes worldwide ?.

WT was to have put down waterfront property in of all places NY USA? You know how (now) all those lovely brownstones are all around the heights area in Brooklyn with the (now) fancy quaint hotels we own? Yep, newspapers recently have commented on how lucky or savvy WT was with buyin low and holding on.........but you do not even want to know how the hundreds of millions have turned into BILLIONS over the past 30 years.

don't sweat it. Jehovah's gonna take care of all that real soon. He will bring to ruin those who are ruining the earth and ruining the people. Yep. Jah will wipe them all out at Armageddon. Babylon has NOT fallen yet, but just you wait and see! What a tumble it will be. Pride goeth before a fall. And we are chisleing away each day by showing their destruction of people and their deceitful greedy ways.

my last one was fancy and pretty, the social event of the season.

i'm in the mood for something a little different tonight.. when i was a popular witness (before being a witness wore me down and my kids became teenagers and people starting judging us for being "liberal") we used to entertain a lot.

i miss that.. i'm a very social creature.

this chart is out of date and i am wondering if anyone can find more contemporary statistics?.

i am wondering if there is some way possible for wbts to be billed for medical expenses caused by the psychological harm inflicted when dubs end up in dr. offices or hospital as a result of spiritual trauma and spiritual warfare?.

seems to me that we could make them take some responsibility.. (i am not providing the link because this is second-hand information).

But on a more personal note, when my sister was about 16 she thought she was going crazy because she didn't believe in the JW stuff anymore. She would cry constantly because she didn't understand why it didn't make sense to her. So my mom talked with the elders and the CO and they told my mom its just a teenage phase. Anyway, my sister went for a routine physical and the doctor suggested my sister see a physciatrist. So my mom took her to one and the physciatrist told my mom that the JW religion was driving my sister crazy. My mom asked the physciatrist to take out the JW factor and the physciatrist said she couldn't because that was the factor. So my mom agreed to put my sister on meds "to help her adjust". My mom informed the CO and he instructed the elders to call my 16-year-old sister everyday to pray and read the bible with her every morning. They did this for about 3 or 4 months. Then a few months later when my sister started regular pioneering, they were sure it was their phone calls and Jehovah's healing hand. It was the prozac. My sister came off the prozac about a year later and has been regular pioneering ever since (about 16 years now). She still has strong doubts and a number of regrets and "forces herself to believe" (her words not mine). Her husband is a well-known elder with as many years as pioneering and he is 110% JW.

Shopper, this is sooo sad. I have seen similar situations with JWs I have encountered, though they are older. It seems the ones I know either zombie-up and parrot or they must be prodded with meds. I am so sorry she was denied freedom of thought, which is and should be a basic inherent human right. We are guaranteed freedom from thought control in the first amendment of constitution, but because of the church/state separation, it does not apply in this situation. Absurd, huh? So sorry she could not shake it off when she was older. I guess the meds help to correct any individuality one might show. Or maybe she just finally gave up trying to justify the nonsense and went along to make life easier?

CO mentioned that the society was concerned because too many of the pioneers were overweight. He mentioned that the pioneers take too many snack breaks, eat too much sugar and don't exercise enough,

I suppose more field work out walking was recommended for the exercise. Actually, I have wondered when overweight people might start getting attacked for "gluttony" sins. I heard some talk about disciplinary action for the overweight a while back, but don't think it will ever happen because too many of the overweight are the ones in charge of everything!

I am wondering why these studies seem to be Australia. And wondering if there are any USA studies? I can't help but think that psychologists and psychiatrists have noticed a definite pattern with cult groups to start such articulate research...and to even break it down according to the particular cult --JW's! Surely there must be figures that are more current.

The stats are old. I was hoping someone might know of some updated info on the issue of cults/(namely JW) and mental health.

"From the figures gathered in the Table it is clear that members of the Jehovah's Witnesses movement are over-represented in admissions to the Mental Health Services of this State. Furthermore, it is clear from the Table that the incidence of schizophrenia amongst them is about three times as high as for the rest of the general population, while the figure for paranoid schizophrenia is nearly four times that of the general population" (p. 558).

Certainly if psychologists were beginning to do detailed work on cult influence leading to mental illness that long ago, there must be some current figures to take this to another level of proof.
