I beleive that a person's death wishes should be honoured. That being said, I find a funeral talk from the Society's outline to be completely distasteful. I have always felt that way. I have heard of some good funeral talks, and some very boring ones as well. Some may want such talks to be given on their behalf, and I do respect that, however I completely hate it when the socieity exploits the death of it's members to give a long sermon on the resurrection. I feel so embarrassed to see the respect shown of the relatives, and friends abused in forcing them to sit there and listen for so long to something that they probably will not beleive in.

Well I finally resigned as an elder - Phew.
by The Scotsman inthats right, about 2 weeks ago i confronted the po and told him i just could not do it anymore.. i genuinely have been under alot of pressure recently with my work so i used this as the pitch.
he was not happy but i received little resistance, which suited me.
i handed him my letter last week before i went on holiday.. i have to say it is a great weight off my shoulders, no book study, meetings for ministry, talks, public talks etc etc.. i will no doubt be the subject of local congregation gossip!

It may hurt at the beginning, but you will enjoy the freedom. The truth of the matter is that it only feels unconfortable when you are at the meetings. Because the message that Society wants you to feel is that you aren't worthy of doing certain things. However, that being said our sisters have risen all above this stuff and are still able to find some measure of happiness in this. After all those years of experience in giving public talks, all that you will do is less than 5 minutes on the Theocratic Ministry school, and don't forget about those exercises in the School guidebook, before you give that 5 minute talk(Elders are exempted from doing those exercises) Talk about a person keeping their dignity. But you are free, and all of these are easy to overcome. But seriously all of those things (previous priviledges) came with a price.
Congratulations, and don't let the adjustment get you down. It gets better as time moves on.

Do I owe my life to the org?
by Serg inthe only reason i'm here and i exist is because of the jw org., my parents met in a hall.
is this your situation?.
if it weren't for that missionary couple out in dominican republic in the 50's that called on my grandma and if it weren't for the brother in the early 70's who called on my dad, my parents would have never met and i wouldn't be sitting here writing this post.. i just realized all of these years i thought i owed my life to god and his organization what i actually owed my life to was an organization that claimed to be god's channel.

New Eagles CD
by purplesofa into me the most overplayed band on the radio, ever, is the eagles.. today i bought their new cd.. its nice, i like it.
it brings back an old comfortable feeling from long ago, but it is new and fresh.. waiting in the weeds written by don henley ( a few of the lyrics from this song).

Iwas was just down in LA at the new Nokia theatre and saw the Eagles, live. It was the first time for me in seeing them live. Timmothy Smith had sang only one of the songs. I found out later that he had a surfing accident in Hawaii, and this affected his voice. It will need some time to get better. The CD sold out quickly in our city, and it was being sold exclusively by Wall Mart. They are definitely a great band.

Confused...
by millymollymandy inhi, i've been lurking on here for a few days but i have a burning question that needs to be answered so i'm outing myself... .
i'm a non-jw (non-christian, in fact) and i've been in a relationship with a jw for the last five years.
we're both pretty young (early 20s) and he still lives at home with his devoutly jw family.

Hi there, and welcome to this site. I'm kinda new to it as well. It's great that you are in relationship with one in our faith.
But, I will be honest with you, I've seen this kind of thing happen before, and let me tell you about where this is taking you. First of all, if this relationship becomes very serious, and I think that it is, you will one day want to take it to the next level, marriage. That is the beginning of your problems, because if you are not a baptised JW. you will not be allowed to be married in the JW faith (ask your boy friend what that means). Your dating stages will also need to be monitored, that is if your boyfriend is serious about his faith. It sounds that his family is liberal, and their are some that are, and this is a good thing. However the simple task of the marriage ceremony creates some barriers with the two faiths. But I just got finished speaking with a Catholic colleague who was describing her problems in marrying a Catholic. They are giving them a hard time as well since that will be an Interfaith marriage. I really wish and hope that it goes well with you and your mate. I have been been married for 33 wonderfull years in the faith, and yes there were ups and downs. There were some strange things that we have noticed as well, within our organization, but we have very good friends that are sound in mind as well. We also have friends that are not of our faith, as well that we respect. We have learn't to live with the strange things, and you will also

Is There Really a Lawyer's Fund for Litigation?
by Connaughty ini read recently that certain key men involved with the united way (charity org) were experiencing some legal issues here in canada.
it seems that they didn't operate by the rules of the charity.
does the wbts society have any rules to abide by?

Hey, thanks for the research LLbh. I think that the legal department in the US is very small now, but will probaly get larger as more things are brought to light.

Birthdays
by sacrebleu inhave any of you noticed how birthdays make you feel?
mine is ignored by my jw sister but when she turned 60 she called me the day before, the day and the day after wanting some kind of recognition.. why should i acknowledge hers when she ignores mine.
it does feel lonesome when the day comes and goes without a call or anything from the jw relatives.. i should be thankful that my hubby and children are not and have never been mixed up in that junk, but my sister is older than me and when i was born and she was so happy to have a little sister.

I read recently that certain Key men involved with the United Way (Charity Org) were experiencing some legal issues here in Canada. It seems that they didn't operate by the rules of the charity. Does the WBTS Society have any rules to abide by? Is there actually some abuse of our donations going to settle some of those legal issues? Does anyone have any facts about this?
