Remember when assemblies were fun?
by Aphrodite ini just remembered when i was a kid and we would go to the assembly, it was fun because we got to buy new clothes and put extra effort into looking good.
when we would get there you could save your seats and even save some for your friends, then go off looking for them.. i used to love our circuit assembly because of the food.
it was at the assembly hall and there was a big kitchen, some of my favourite brothers worked in that kitchen, sometimes i was allowed to go in and help.

I read part of his book, when it was released. He has some interesting things to say about the early church. He has done some good research into the history of beliefs of Greek history. He makes a lot of comparaisons to Jesus and the pagon ideas. He claims that they are similar. He doesn't make mention of Flavius Josephus a 1st century historian who makes the claim that Jesus was not a fictional person.
The value I took from his book was more a insight to what the pagons beleived, and how they really live, and in some respects he humanized some of them.

The D.O. gave some 'good' advice regarding the internet at the Assembly
by The Lone Ranger inthe d.o.
gave us some really good advice at this weeks circuit assembly, he was talking about the dangers of the internet, he gave the usual warnings about teenagers meeting strangers or apostates, and dating websites.. but this time he also told the patents in the audience that there is software available which can monitor every website that is visited and everything that is typed on the computer, i was shocked, he was advising the parents to spy on their children, i suppose it might be ok if the child is 10yo but what if he or she is late teens, and they discover that their parents have spied on them, imagine how that will spilt the family, and for what?
the cure is worst then the problem.. its simple a case of the wts being paranoid of the interent and they want no one on it..

I can see that it could be a wise thing for parents to be watchful of their children that go onto the internet. Not because of a disrespecting the privacy, but to protect children from Predators. It's a mean world out there, and the internet has dangers that could harm children.
If your children are older, I believe that you should allow some measure of independence. Of course that is if you can trust your older child.
Monitoring is not new. Did you know that your employer knows every thing that you do on your computer that you use at your office, if you work at an office. They know of the websites, and emails that you receive and circulate. Big Brother, or Big Mother, or Big father is watching.

Hi Ompa,
Among the many things that are hard to break is addictions to Smoking, and Alcoholism.
I have seen someone who kicked both habits after struggling with it for over 20 years.
I'm not qualified medically/professionally to offer advice in this, but would like to pat you on the back and wish you well. I've seen it mastered by others before. When you do master it, you will find that your life will be much better.
All the best,

Reply for Nathan Natas.
The Knocking Video has no copywrite conditions associated with it. The Society must have given their approval when it went to production

These are excepts from the released video entitled "Knocking".
There are additional footage in the video that are additional comments from the Societies views.
The video was directed, and created by a Journalyst, who was raised as a JW, but never did become one.
I think that it was well put together, and did present a human side to the Society.

Hey Guys,
Go easy on Proglog2 - I beleive that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and even though you may not agree about others, it's good that some can vent there frustrations.
It's a tragedy this round of lay-offs, and this is just the beginning. I was speaking to some from the Canadian Bethel, and they were looking for voluteers to leave the Canada Branch a few years back. It's just a matter of time. This legal rendering of someone that swears a vow of poverty is puzzling. In Canada you can qualify for a two pensions CCP, and Old Age security. Even if you haven't made contributions to the later, you still get the Old Age security at age 65. I think that in time we will know what legal requirements that these ones will have, but keep in mind. The Soc is in care of voluntary resources, whether that is Human resources, or financial resources. How they manage these is a matter of time for the legal opinions to uncover.
I just have to include myself in this monster thread.

I'm not knocking meetings. I know that first century christians did have the custom in attending and being fortified by them. Of course these were meetings that were once a week, and I'm not sure about the duration of them as well. Somehow, I don't think that the 1st century meetings for the christians, required them to have additional meetings during the week, and discuss changed magazine presentations, and speak 20 minutes about you could pioneer, followed by another Q&A about the behaving at the upcoming District Covention. I didn't sense Jesus's presence during that time. I somehow think that meetings are really being exploited to make the publishers ready for the weekend service arrangement. Honestly, I don't get the feeling of being motivated. I used to a long time ago, but, I think that the direction now lacks joy, and encouragement. The illustration was charming, and warm but it felt like a fairy tale. Sorry.
