Although it depends on how you use it, a big part of it is people rely on this standardized system for something that is supposed to be very individual - although a lot of them probably don't really care as long as they get a hottie or something. I don't care if it's eHarmony or how sophisticated and complex the system is, if you are not reducible to a profile or a set of questionaires then it is only good as a beginning point - and not so good at that judging by these kinds of experiences.

Online Dating
by FreeGirl2006 in*sigh* i was seeing someone for several months, but it is not working out.
so i went back to my only way of meeting men thus far--online dating sites.
i have had some really cool experiences, but i think i am getting burnt out....if i read one more email from a guy that reads "u r booteful and i wud luv to chat with u and then maybe we go out and eat" (or my personal favorite today--"you are eye-popping"--i am busty and the current picture reveals that little fact) i think i will puke!

Interesting how there were no replies to this one, aside from it being a bit long it may indicate how literal minded most people are.
I do think there's meaning in dreams, I've been in situations in a group facilitated by people who really know their stuff, and although I can't interpret it on the fly with the little information I have (not knowing anyone in the group) I can follow the logic of suggested interpretations.
The few dreams I remember are pretty short and usually I know or have a good sense of what they mean, so they don't really make good stories. I haven't looked into it, but I doubt the common interpretations found in popular books like this means that is really the way to understand it. No doubt it depends on the activity, what happens rather than which characters and objects are involved as they will take on different meaning depending on the context - both of the dream and of your life, including things like having been a JW.

Multiple choice, and only two at that? Well without going into all sorts of details lets just say it depends on how you're looking at it, the amount and type of sex people has is not exactly determined by biology alone. There are different aspects to how the mind can be influenced, but lets say "everyone" is selling something. At some point you have to account for the mental structures as well as the physical ones.

How to get the programming out of my mind.
by Apostate.Jr ini have been reading this board for a year now, so i'm not new, but new to posting :)
please let me apologize in advance as i am having trouble separating what is true - from what i hear at the meetings, vs here, and private research, so i may ramble or say things that may sound watchtowery.
i still go to the meetings due to family pressure which may eventually end, not sure when, probably when i decide its enough.

Jesus mentioned in the scripture that there would be ones that said, did we not prophecy in your name.... etc, but that he would not recognize them. Did this mean that there would be only one true religion?
Isn't it more about hypocrisy than following a certain way? The thing is there are people who consider themselves Christians but they're not exactly the loving neighbor type, but might shove the doctrines they believe in down people's throats, doing the works in Jesus name. I mean breaking it down to really basic terms a kid can understand, it's about being a good person right? People who only know how to follow rules lose the natural sensibility in how to live and treat other people.

suicidal friend
by DaCheech ini have not talked to a good witness friend of mine in 3 weeks.. yesterday, i called and asked if he had not called me due to being mad for some reason (seems like i have to do the calling all the time).. he told me that he had been severely derpressed, and had comtemplated suicide.. he's seeing some kind of natural care doctor.
i congradulated him on seeking help, but advised him to also talk to mental health doctor.. he is totally against that!.
he told me that he's only gonna do the following 2 things: 1) take some happy vitamins, 2) try to do more service hours!.

It just so happens that around the time I left I went to school for nutrition, when I look back on it I see it was an attempt to treat a psychological problem with physical substances.
It might be helpful to point out that some witnesses are therapists, I saw one for a little while. (it might help if you told this as a story, I was a witness during this period anyway) Well I had a number of other ideas but I don't think it would have the same impact unless told in a certain way, but these might be helpful to mention.

This non witness wants 2 questions answered-if possible.
by worldtraveller ini asked my jw friend3 weeks ago this--- if all people came from adam and eve, and there is no such thing as evolution, then where did african ppl come form (or the chinese or whatever).
he never could answer.. the other question is : if no one has met jehovah, how do we know his name-don't give me it's in the book answer, because god didn't write the scriptures, right?
also god is referred to as he.

That those characteristics that make them African are adaptations to their environment?

Why is god so angry?
by keyser soze inin reading the scriptures, it is clear that god has some serious anger issues, not to mention insecurities.
how does he deal with anyone who displeases him in the old testament?
he not only kills them, but their children, and their children's children.

I believe Kirk addressed this in Star Trek V.

Doesn't Jehovah judge by the heart? That is why the service hours aren't ultimately important, and that is why mental health is.

Well man, (or woman, don't mean to presume) many here are ex-witnesses and although I haven't been into that trip for a while now I could tell you a couple of things that come to mind. The different races might be explained in terms of adaptation rather than evolution I think I mean we're still all human.
As for God being a guy, I mean it's just rather convenient but about as relevant as the fact that both the words start with G isn't it? Obviously the question is like which came first, the chicken or the egg - in other words is this a God that created us in "his" image or is it one we created in ours? An intersting point is the sexes are rather opposites, which is relative. But God is supposed to be absolute, and this kind of polar characteristic wouldn't make a lot of sense there. Metrosexual maybe, too sexy for the humans but...

The Way To Love
by JamesThomas inone of my favorite little books is: the way to love: the last meditations of anthony de mello.. following is from the chapter: be awake.
it may be too direct, ruthlessly honest and straight-forward for many; we are not normally exposed to such hard-hitting guidance.
yet some of you it will touch in a significant way; enough to purchase this rare little gem that you may gleem from its pages much wisdom.. .

edited to add: This is a very shallow response to what you posted and I came back to delete it, but decided to keep it here. it wasnt meant to be deep or philisophical. Just a post
Purps, philosophy is not deep! Yes it CAN be, depending on the understanding of the individual, but then we're back to a human concern right? But on that level, it IS deep, certainly is for you - deeper than the rest of the time that's flat and... well, just kind of flat - and frankly I'm sure philosophers have just as much of that. I mean hey, if we approached this as a competitive sport I think we would be really shallow. Actually, all such experiences help each other deepen, you might be surprised at how some deep individuals regard what seems to be simple experiences like this.
