On a related note, I'll tell you a main concern for me as a single guy is finding someone that completely individuates from their parents, which is perhaps being too picky. But I just think of all the potential drama that would come up, and I'm like geez - WHAT A WASTE. I mean my parents are like any other, but it is so clear to me I know it wouldn't be an issue on my end - but if it's not clear with the other person I can just imagine all the sticky codependent crap, who likes or doesn't like who and what they think and all this nonsense - like don't you all have something better to do?

As a JW were you ever counseled about clothes you wore, or lack thereof ?
by flipper inthought this could get interesting discussing experiences.
i for one was trying to reach out for ministerial servant again in the early 90's , had been one before, and was assigned to carry the microphones one meeting.
had an elder call me in the back room and say , " brother flipper, i noticed looking down towards your shoes that you are wearing white socks today.

I'm not sure if there was another question before, but I'll answer the ones just above that last post. I think the key is the intention, what we're supposed to do or how we behave in certain social settings is really a very shallow way of looking at things. Doesn't the bible talk about the whole thing of looking at a woman with lust? Now that behavior in itself would also be just an example, the point is what's in your heart right? Now it's interesting that some people interpret more traditional religious morals as not doing harm sexually, rather than list a bunch of specific things. Going by behavior alone is very shallow, it's like the whole thing of just having pictures is supposed to lead to idolatry. If deep down you have that integrity, what happens on the outside won't really change anything.

Well I don't know the details of the story, but that just sounds stupid. It reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons where Ned Flanders was singing:
When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother, what will I be
Will I be pretty, will I be rich
Here's what she said to me.
Que Sera, Sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours, to see
Que Sera, Sera
What will be, will be.And that, of course, would have made more sense. Anyway.. Not sure anything from me would be helpful in any sense that makes sense, but all I can say is my parents are a lot nicer to me once they realized I don't care what they think of me, it's like they don't know what to make of someone that is actually independent. I care about them, but frankly I'm no longer their child. I guess a lot of parents would find that unsettling in some sense, the whole "you'll always be my kid" thing, but geez - don't people grow up at some point? You'd think the parents would do it first.

You can be Disfellowshiped for being too FAT!!!!!
by Witness 007 inwatch 74 p.167 "by disobediently overindulging in food and making a glutton of himself, he fails to show love for jehovah god...is food a big thing in his life?
if in the presents of others, does he selfishly ignore thier needs and take far more then his share?
is he grossly overweight but shows no restraint at all as to food, habitually gorging himself?

Actually that's a good point, it seems they disfellowship based on repeated behavior patterns, is that true? If that's the case it isn't really based on whether someone is repentant, because that is about what's in their heart. I guess it's just like how they judge by works as in the field service hours, no clue about what's really going on inside a person.

There's both mental and physical factors, and the interplay of the two. The phrase "mind-body connection" always strikes me as stupid sounding because as far as I'm concerned it's one thing - to view it as separate is the fundamental mistake in the first place.
So on the mental side, just really deciding to do it is key. I know someone who has over 150lbs to lose, probably close to 200, and he's been doing so well (50 now) that I went ahead and did it with him for a while and lost like 25 lbs or whatever - I decided to stop because now I'm only 5 lbs over my weight 10 years ago, fat % is fine along with all bloodwork, even if BMI is not ideal and I have some breasts - and I've kept the weight off. There's no doubt in my mind I can lose more if I wanted to, I'm able to limit myself to eat anything and exercise a lot if I decide to push myself, but I just don't see the need.
But there are other factors including those under the physical/biological/genetic that I don't pretend to know as I won't from experience anyway, but what I can say is if you are aware of it mentally you can atleast work with it - which is a matter of being in touch with your own experience.

Roommate seems to have a hard time going to the meetings
by oppgirl63 inmy roommate seems to have the hardest time making it to the sunday meetings...and that's the only one she goes to anymore.
i went to wake her this morning and she didn't want to go and asked me if i would carry her service card (or whatever it's called) to the kh for her.
i told her no...i didn't want to talk to those people.

Aren't we really the pioneers?
by purplesofa inwe are blazing through the time we live in, seeking freedom from the oppression around is, in us, through us.
we are opening our minds to new ways of thinking, feeling, living, sharing.. it's not easy, we pay a price, for some of its much higher than others.
we suffer alone, endure hardships, bear the truth and it's consequences.. there is no new land to conquer, no nations to be born, no places to run to any longer.

Ultimately it doesn't matter. You can be free from something, but complete freedom includes being free to do it. So if being on this forum is not necessarily indicative of being dependent, then it is really a matter of how things are for you.

If the spiritual is not a concept, then why relate conceptually? The logical thing would be to relate spiritually, which may not involve any concepts remotely religious, or any concepts period. Of course when you're posting you have to use some kind of concept, but it might be about anything - something personal maybe, an interest in the other. And why would it matter if the other holds concepts to the opposite, if it isn't a conceptual issue in the first place? I simply don't see any reason to get our conceptual ducks in a row, disagreement isn't nearly as big a deal as we might make it out to be.
I was remember a scene from a movie, maybe A Beautiful Mind where a woman places the man's hand on her and says something to the effect of "this is real." It's like that. It's not just about the physical contact of course, you touch into something else too.
