What is the key that unlocks the mental grip of the WT?
by LennyinBluemont inive wondered this from time to time, especially in trying to figure out how i finally broke free and in looking at the stories of others.
if you asked me a few years ago, i probably would have said either seeing too much hypocrisy or suffering the last straw of spiritual and/or emotional abuse.
but i know in my case and others, even that wasnt enough to break the mental shackles.

Coffee Black is dead on. It is different for things for different people. Meetings stoked my furnace. Every meeting I kept getting more and more and more things that I felt the need to question or critisize. This went on for many many years and a lot of people knew I had a ton of doubts. The final straw that let me really start saying "bullshit" when a teaching was now what I knew to be that, was personally verifying the fraudulant NWT (Not Well Translated) of the Bible. Gosh they have some monster balls!

Yes you do understand it GD you just dont realize it yet. "He obviously didn't create himself" is the entire point of adding the word [other]. If he did create himself so to speak, that would make him God, the only one with no beginning. Heaven forbid anyone be even given the opportunity to have that thought or debate it, so just add [other]. smarter than you think....oompa

if i ever did, i can't see it happening for more than a few minutes and then running back to the car to get them.

You should have a column in WSJ!!! Your post could be in a frame on my wall! Y es I say we are "defrauded", that NWT is perpetuating a "fraud" and so do those that use it, but to me what they have done to the Bible WITHOUT telling its followers is an
"Abomination!"

JCannon---option to insert "other" if it is presumed that that is how it would be understood.
I strongly disagree with this view. Any extremely liberal translator can justify just about ANY CHANGES to extant manuscript based on this logic. If you stick to manuscript or a Greek Interlinear translation, you should only be able to reflect the "thought" of the actual material. Adding the word [other] TOTALLY CHANGES the entire meaning of the total context.
that is going way too far...IMO....oompa....and Cannon, how many other Bibles "render" it this way???? Also, If we could discuss/argue this point, I have 237 little pieces of evidence on my side as to whether the NWT makes appropriate changes or not.

You guys need to cut and paste some of this BIBLE stuff I'm working on, and tack on some thoughts! JWS think it ALL starts there, and when you show deceit in the NWT you do get results.

Hey guys I have always hated the [brackets] because they are never indicated when reading aloud. The rule for them stated in the forard are ignored often. But YUMMY! they did it for over twenty years in ALL their bibles with NO brackets! Thats right, lets just stray from accepted ancient manuscripts and write it with OTHER the way we want it and maybe no one will notice in 10 or 20 years. They knew it was wrong from 1950 on, there was no new documents found to add the brackets, but I bet enough people found out the truth that it became a problem.
Stll in 64 we all feel had at times. just get back to hitting the books with a critical eye......oompa

Yes I think Rev. 22:18,19 is a good idea. God said leave it alone. I have a big problem with many changes the NWT has made. I was showing my dad/elder one the he found interesting and unexplainable. We all know that Col. 1:15-19 has added the word [other] in brackets and it really changes the meaning of the verse and is not necessary for gramatical reasons.
So my dad says, "well it is not really changed, it is in brackets"....so I'm like "how many times have you EVER heard this scripture read from the stage and the person says 'and note the bracketed word OTHER here? No never, it is read just like all the other words in the scripture that really are part of exitsting manuscript". Dad says he has never actually heard it read that way. Then I drop an little bomb on him...."Dad when I was growing up I knew that the REAL bible for smart people (like him) was the big four inch thick early Reference Kind of NWT with cross references, because that is what you used. Look at how Col. reads in it."
If you guessed that there are NO [Brackets] of any kind you are correct! Just a pure ol SPURIOUS verse. I believe all NWT copies were like this until aprox. 1970. He had no clue, and no defense for the BIG change made by WTBS.
Check it out and let me know when it was changed to [bracketed].....oompa.....how can you change the bible!!!!!
