IMO, WT makes the elders scapegoats, but I would say it's to relieve themselves of legal liability rather than to make themselves look better.

Are elders simply procedural scapegoats?
by Silent_Scream inthe watchtower constantly talks about elders doing everything "in love" and being reasonable and balanced, and not being masters over their brothers' faith (hypocritically).. but when elders receive specific direction from co and training from schools and letters, they go over mostly procedures, procedures, rules, how to obey the gb and if the friends dont like it, too bad because its from jah's organization.
and procedures.
so they are trained to go by the book, and if love can be shown, cool.

When a song plagues me like that it usually means there is something in the lyrics to fit a current situation, either "for real" or because whatever I internalized through the words is ready to be put under a microscope, but in either case, the song applies somehow to something I'm currently dealing with. Maybe it works that way with you, too.
Hokey or not, if you have all the words to the song I'd appreciate it if you'd post them. Sometimes it helps to go through line by line and see just where the logic goes bad, if it does. The only other part of that song I remember is "On many occassions God spoke long ago, by means of his prophets on earth here below". What else does it say?

Shelby asked "What is Truth"? Truth is that which cannot be disputed.
Could Einstein have been wrong? Yup. It just took people a while to come up with bits of information with which to challenge his assumptions.

Change may be a constant but I wouldn't say it was a "truth". There are "truths", or one united "truth", but nobody's got it these days. Adam had it, but didn't seem to hold it in high enough regard. We'll get it again someday, and face the choice of living by it or not. For right now everything is subjective and we're at loose ends.

The Supreme Law of the Land
by Farkel infolks, i almost feel silly creating this thread, but i think i must do it based upon comments by folks who think the various governments in the usa can make any legally enforceable laws they want.. they cannot!.
in the usa we have a republic.
we do not have a democracy.

Not "of the land", but "of the nation". They claim the land but have no right.

Are we too JW centric?
by Mickey mouse ini realise that may sound like a stupid question on a jw forum but i was thinking about the events in the uk this week and i am wondering if we need to 'widen out our associations'.
it would be preferable if our efforts were directed not against the leadership of a single religion but towards raising awareness of the use of thought reform.
as things stand i am not aware of an effective way for us to communicate with ex cultists from other groups.

When JW-people go looking for "something" online, a JW-related forum like this one is a good place to start. One a person gets past perceiving him/herself as a JW-only, maybe a forum with a broader scope would be helpful (high control group info, etc.). Changing the focus of this site (and others whose focus is WT-related) could mean taking away the "first step". Think back through all you've read, most JW's don't perceive themselves as being part of a high-control group, but many do sense that something is wrong. You have to start where a person "is", then allow that person to move forward at a self-chosen pace and direction. There are many sites dedicated to other causes and perspectives but not too many for JW's. This site, and some others like it, are best left as they are.

spacetime could be warped in a way so that neutrinos can take a shortcut without really being faster than the speed of light.
If this proves to be the case, should speed of light continue to be the measure?
