Do you find that years after leaving the JWs birthdays just don't matter?

I just can't get into it. In years past the inlaws have made an effort and given a little party but now we are out country its just not a big enough deal to be bothered with.

No presents, no cake. No special feeling. The wife was raised (not JW) with not much emphasis on birthdays either so the day just past with a big blank. I did my usual pottering in the shed (a place i can't seem to stay out of unless wife hides the keys) but still end the day a little flat. (big sigh).

Maybe i'll have fish and chips for tea...

Hi Oz, yes I feel exactly the same way. I have now retired, so you can imagine I would rather forget I am another year older.

However I do feel some birthdays are worth celebrating. My mother was 90 last birthday. I felt that was definately worth celebrating.

Children too. It is a big thing for them to reach their next birthday.

And certainly if someone is very ill and they make it to their birthday, I think that is worth celebrating.

    Happy Birthday Aussie.

I had my birthday on the 28th. I don't want to celebrate them either. Birthdays are really for children. My children love them. But as you get older it is not really that fun to celebrate aging. Sadly, I missed out on birthdays when I would have enjoyed them. Being raised to think you will never die, by the time I could celebrate them I just feel down at the reminder of my mortality.

    Happy Birthday Oz.

I get what you are saying. On the one hand I'd like to celebrate my birthday too (it's coming up soon) but all those years of not celebrating has left it's mark upon me. On the other hand I feel like "what's the point?" I don't have any kids so I usually celebrate my friend's kids birthdays with them. I haven't even gotten a b-day present in over a decade. Just another day.
