Does anyone else remember the days when laudromat owners complained to Watchtower about magazines being left behind? It seems the paper WT and Awake! were printed on worked just fine in the dollar changers and owners were losing a lot of money!

Cant get over this
by dogisgod ini really can't get over that there are more than over 50 "gnostic" books that have every qualification that the other books in the new testament have and people won't consider them because it doesn't jive with "their" dogmas.
i really like the book of thomas.. i also consider paul the first big time hijacker of jesus intent..

Late entry into this thread, but..... Couldn't she take her utility bill to a help agency? Every place has them. They'll either make arrangements with the utility company or pay the bill outright in her behalf.
In the city where I live they've made a huge campaign out of teaching people *not* to give cash when asked. They've even printed up a poster-sized help list (that folds down to wallet-sized) with all the agencies listed along with what help that agency can give. They have listings for rent, utilities, medical, violence, substance abuse, clothing, meals, groceries, employment, training, you name it. The police, libraries, etc. have stacks of these lists and they encourage people to carry a few with them in case they are approached for help. The idea is to hand over the list, not the cash.
My suggestion is that you look in the front of your local phone book or online, anywhere there is a list of agencies for your community. Get familiar with it and make the appropriate recommendation(s) any time you are asked for cash. Try 2-1-1 (phone). Many communities use that number for a general, anonymous help line. You tell them what you are looking for and they tell you what's available in your area.
Edited to add that unless you are a doctor, the correct response, imo, to "give my head a break, please" (migraine) is "See a doctor, go to ER".

Real Estate Agents Increasingly Use Faith Advertising
An article in last Saturday's Washington Post reported on the growing practice among real estate agents to engage in faith advertising-- attempting to appeal to members of a particular religious group. An increasing number of real estate agents are aiming at Christians, either by incorporating Christian symbols in their advertising or joining groups such as the 1600-member Christian Real Estate Network. Other religious groups are following suit. Kosher Connection will connect users to Jewish real estate agents. In Michigan, a few real estate agents are marketing to Muslims who want Islamic financing for their home purchase. Some of these practices risk legal challenge. The federal Fair Housing Act prohibits real estate agents from using ads that indicate a preference for members of a particular religious group. Department of Housing and Urban Development guidelines however say agents can use religious symbols if they add a non-discrimination disclaimer. In 2004, federal authorities ruled that Section 806 of the Fair Housing Act required the Christian Real Estate Network to admit non-Christians to membership. This ruling is reflected in the organization's current policies.

Happifying was one of those words....when you heard it from the platform (especially at a District Convention) you were supposed to start into a big round of applause...even if you just finished one, as in a one hour talk about annual statistics.
It was most happifying to see that the number of full time publishers increased in Vulcanola where we now have a grand total of two! (applause)
And we were most happified to learn that Nastyland has removed the ban on Kingdom Publishing and our brothers are up to their elbows in mud and straw, building a beautiful new Branch Office with funds entirely obtained from their own contributions! (applause)

You posted the topic for open discussion, I responded. You don't have to like what I said.
If you recognize that the no smoking policy is a man made, arbitrary rule, and you choose not to follow it, why are you unhappy with the consequences?
You say you take the spiritual counsel given by those in authority, but you also said you lied through your teeth to get reinstated. Did those in authority counsel you to do that as well? Their version of religion says that if you rely on Jehovah you will be helped by holy spirit. Did you rely or lie?
If you choose to follow the WT way that's your decision, but your logic is faulty if you don't do what you are told and then expect the same results as if you did.
Now, I'm done with this topic. I hope that you will see past your emotions to the logic of what I said. If you don't, well....it won't be me that's hurting.
I sincerely wish you the best.

To paraphrase departed Dan Sydlik: Why do you think God gave you a brain, and hands, and strength?
There are some things you are meant to do for yourself! Funny, you didn't wait for the Holy Spirit to make you *start* smoking, so why should it help you stop? Your decision, your strength, your action. Same with the cases of illness such as the one you mentioned; people make decisions (even unwise ones), it's their right and prerogative; why would anyone expect the Holy Spirit to get involved? It's sad and terrible when people lose to seemingly random ailments or tragedies befall them that are not of their own making (tsunami's, dementia, etc.) but again, what has that to do with Holy Spirit? Holy Spirit didn't cause them so why should Holy Spirit be expected to fix things up?
Look for sources, not scapegoats. Take responsibility for your own decisions. When the reason for tragedy (or anything else for that matter) isn't clear or isn't able to be tested satisfactorily, don't blame what you perceive on "Holy Spirit" as if it had shortcomings, rather, take it upon yourself to learn more than what you know now and give understanding a lot more time. Grieve if you need to, but don't join any lynching parties, you may find out later that it was you who was in the wrong.

Descended from animal? Explain language.
by StopTheTears inif, as evolutionists claim, all of mankind evolved from the same primitive life-source, then how did we end up with 7,000 different languages?
did one gorilla get angry at another gorilla and decide to start a new language?
i'm intrigued to know.. .
