Do you ever fear that they will kill you?
by NYer Girl ini've heard the jws referred to on this site mostly as a cult.
as such, am i the only one who fears that one day the society will tell them to eliminate all of us who have been deemed apostates?
i can think of several of my old "friends" who would not hesitate to take me out.

For those traumatized by being "raised in the truth"...
by changeling inwhat kind of apology would you like to hear from your parents?.
i'll start:.
we are sorry that we were narcissistic wannabe misionaries and that by "putting the kingdom first" we were really putting our personal goals first and never once factored you into the equation.

well, I just googled Malawi, and JWs and now know what it is. And yeah, it did happen. I remember it being discussed as an experience. of course that is just anecdotal evidence...maybe a yearbook would help?

ive come to the conclusion that
by ness injehovah's witnesses vary a great deal country to country.
i think it may be cultural or something.... ive been browsing the forum for a few days now and cant believe at times we are talking about the same religion.
and while i would never want to go back to their way of life, i honestly find it hard to believe that as an organisation they are evil.

tragic :(
I think most JWs are grounded enough to understand that there will be isolated incidences of such heinous crimes. Even I was able to comprehend that. But is it endemic within the org? Thats the crucial question. That is what will change my mind from just disliking JW's to absolutely badmouthing them
Im inclined to believe that the elders and even higher up the ladder towards the GB are just grossly incompetent at handling cases dealing with child abuse.
Im still trying to research the recent settlement incident. I cant believe that didnt make a ripple here!

rofls@mary!! (why has that become a hyperlink?)
Perhaps there was a social/spiritual hierarchy in my congregation. However it wasn't as noticeable as the class discrepancies you could see from one congregation to the other...different demographics obviously had a different socioeconomic levels

As a JW were you ever counseled about clothes you wore, or lack thereof ?
by flipper inthought this could get interesting discussing experiences.
i for one was trying to reach out for ministerial servant again in the early 90's , had been one before, and was assigned to carry the microphones one meeting.
had an elder call me in the back room and say , " brother flipper, i noticed looking down towards your shoes that you are wearing white socks today.

err, sorry didnt mean to upset anyone :(
to be perfectly honest all this info about the UN and the child abuse is news to me, I only found out about it by coming into this forum and then checking out Silent Lambs etc. I was mortified. I confronted my mum about it who is an active JW and she got really upset...(mainly because she thinks im an apostate) but when I pressed her on the issue, she knew nothing of it. See thats the whole point. Active JWs outside of the US are sheltered from all the bad press and because they dont use the net to look up 'apostate' sites and whatnot..they'll never know.
The fact that the Head Quarters is over there is also a major factor as someone else mentioned.
And I also have a little theory of my own...and I dont mean to offend any of my American friends over there but I find your culture prone to fundamentalism (please dont slap me, its just an observation lol) whereas Australians are not as 'spiritual' and dont really get fanatical about anything except beer and cricket. Now JWs as a religion is fundamentalist enough with its hardcore way of life and major literal interpretations....add a culture of fundamentalism to the mix and you have recipe for disaster. Anyway....that prolly made no sense lol.
