i ask this with serious intent.. evolutionary imperative?
selfishness?
boredom?
I think that exJWs tend to value our lifespan a great deal more than we did as JWs - after all, as JWs we believed we had all the time in the world - a thousand years! - ahead of us to do whatever we want, and that made it OK to squander the present on WTS interests in exchange for an everlasting future.
wow, that hit a bit close to home :(
my guess is probably not, or if they were they weren't that much of a jw or their perspective isn't so relevant to jw thought - i trust those that have been out a while understand what i mean, hindsight and all.
what i'd like to do is draw out a contrast that some may have by way of their personal experience, maybe a "worldly person" or other non-jw that is an example of someone that has a great and helpful perspective on life, vs. the jw one.
there may be people from this board, but i think even a specific telling moment with a simple thing could be good or even better.
non JWs do not hold the monopoly on introspection.
onthewayout has a current thread about a slow fade, and i have read many others that are similar.
i do not understand how fading slowly vs. fading very quickly has any different consequences.
and i mean whether an elder or pioneer or not.
dreamer, that was a stroke of genius me thinks.
because it is hot as hell outside, it has to be 113 at least, when you walk outside you feel like you are on fire, someone make it stop!
i can't imagine going out in service in this heat but this morning on my way to work what do i see?
faithful jws walking the streets, should it be considered child abuse to make children go out in ervice in this heat?.
its spring here in Oz. YAY!
i remember people at the doors commenting to my parents about the heat and dragging us kids out in it. but my mum used to pack me a little sandwich and an icy drink. it wasn't all bad lol...i would have rather been at home on Saturday morning watching cartoons, but what can you do?
the thing that always gave me the shits as a kid was that when we did go out, we couldn't just go for an hour. it had to be 3 hours, my father had to set an 'example.' there was something called the "11am syndrome" where people seemed to finish up at 11 and this was frowned upon as half hearted. bah...don't get me thinking about this stuff it just makes me mad.
errm, anyway, nice day out eh?
hey everyone, .
i'm a long time reader of this forum but i have never posted.
i've started countless "new topics" and never pressed the "submit post" button.
reading a post like that makes me so happy I managed to avoid being D'd. Just become inactive peoples and then avoid all shepherding calls like buggery.
does any know if memorial wines were always domestic?
this is from mad-cow.org from sep 99.
"...advocating that french wines carry labels warning of possible contamination with animal blood infected with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (bse, or 'mad cow' disease).
you are kidding me right?! did some cong's miss out on the basics to 'being a JW 101'
thought this could get interesting discussing experiences.
i for one was trying to reach out for ministerial servant again in the early 90's , had been one before, and was assigned to carry the microphones one meeting.
had an elder call me in the back room and say , " brother flipper, i noticed looking down towards your shoes that you are wearing white socks today.
excuse me, but did I read correctly calico? your husband is studying with a younger sister? wtf??
i have been reading this board for a year now, so i'm not new, but new to posting :)
please let me apologize in advance as i am having trouble separating what is true - from what i hear at the meetings, vs here, and private research, so i may ramble or say things that may sound watchtowery.
i still go to the meetings due to family pressure which may eventually end, not sure when, probably when i decide its enough.
Im an atheist now
without wanting to hijack mr apostate. jr's thread lol, how did you go from being Christian to Atheist? Christian to Agnostic I understand as thats what I would classify myself as, but Atheist?

well, I complained because the split in my skirt wasn't high. It was a long skirt and the split would have come up to the knee. Id like to be able to walk freely without shuffling a-la Morticia Adams.
