  i thought i would post a review of a certain book i know of called "solving the mystery of the biblical flood" which is just now available from some of the on line book sellers.

  it is basically a geology book that proves the earth has had a recent earth wide flood as described in the bible.

  In the usual mode of intellectual INTOLERANCE, you seek to insinuate that only your world view is valid

  Morally, politically or economically several world views can be taken as equally valid. Intellectually, they cannot. Either there was a global flood or there wasn't. It either actually happened or it did not. Honest thinkers will not just "agree to disagree" on such subjects. They will look at the evidence and come to a reasoned conclusion. They will not accept that false conclusions based on faulty evidence are valid.

  Matthew Makes Another Error

  the 1 chronicles author lists the descendents of david; some of these, in order, are jehoshaphat, jehoram, ahaziah, joash, amaziah, azariah, jotham, ahaz, hezekiah, manasseh (1 chronicles 3:10-13 niv).

  the matthew author contradicts this genealogy; he leaves out the four consecutive descendents underlined above, and in their place puts uzziah, who he says is jehorams son.

  Christanity was being preached by Peter , Paul and the apostles before the Gospels were written

  Paul wrote more books of the bible than anyone else. By his own admission, he never met Jesus. The story of Jesus bears a striking resemblance (more, I believe, than mere coincidence would allow) to that of Heracles, a peasant demigod of Tarsus. Who else do we know who came from Tarsus?

  space.com dates Noah's flood to 2350 B.C.

  the watchtower society dates noah's flood to 2370 b.c.e.

  they do this by following bible chronology quite closely, counting backwards from 607 b.c.e., their date for babylon's destruction of jerusalem.

  however, as we know, the society's date for that event is in error.

  By the way, the article dates the account of the deluge found in "The Epic of Gilgamesh," which many Bible critics say was the basis of the Bible's flood account, to "circa 2200 BC." That's one hundred and fifty years AFTER Bible chronology, and the new tree ring studies, indicate Noah's flood occurred.

  The writing of the Epic of Gilgamesh took place circa 2200 BC, about a thousand years before the writing of the Genesis account, and according to the chronology you mention, within Noah's lifetime. As there were relatively few people in the world at the time and they all spoke the same language, don't you think Noah would have mentioned that they got his name wrong?

  i think he used to be in the uk but may have gone to the us?.

  Definitely a different Peter Barnes then. The one I'm thinking of was active till at least 5 years ago (and probably still is).

  Pretty sure he was a CO or a DO or something here in Ireland. I haven't heard anything about him leaving, but I probably wouldn't anyway.

  Monotheism and the worst intolerance.

  i know that evil things have been by polytheists as well as monotheists.

  but i was watching a program about the ancient egyptians a couple of months ago i think it was on channel 4. anyway it showed how incredibly advanced the old egyptians really were, performing engineering feats that we still cannot reproduce today without our technology.

  their society was a polytheistic one and everyone got on reasonably well, until a particular pharaoh came along who was egypts first monotheist.

  Didn't see the program. If memory serves, the phaoraoh was Akh-an-Aten. Interesting theory. Certainly plenty of anecdotal evidence to support it.

  this weekend i spent the weekend with a few xjws.

  we had a nice weekend but eventually we got round to the subject of why i am having a problem accepting that jesus was the messiah.. a friend of one of them came around and he had brought an article which he wanted me to read.

  The oldest full copies go back to about AD 330 and part of St John's Gospel which has survived, actually goes back to within a few years of St John's original writing..

  This is somehow supposed to be taken as evidence supporting the authenticity of the accounts. The oldest existing copies were written three hundred years after the supposed events. Small fragments of one of the gospels can be dated as "only" a hundred or so years after the fact.
  I don't know about the other first-century non-Christian sources but the single mention by Josephus of Jesus is regarded by most scholars as a later addition. The Dead Sea Scrolls, dated to the late first century don't mention Jesus at all.

  when an employer resorts to comments like 'who sign's your check?

  ' or 'are you biting the hand that feed's you?

  ', it is normally due to some perceived or overt violation of loyalty, or simply to shut the employee up regarding the subject matter at hand.. i don't like the tactic, because it is rarely used in a one on one situaltion, but generally in the ear shot of other's, to squelch the matter.

  I'm an elitist. I admit it. I go out of my way to read posts by certain people and don't bother with those of others. This is based on experience, not prejudice. Nevertheless, if Fredhall some day makes an informed, educated post about the calculation of the Gentile times, and AlanF responds by saying "I'm a cute kitty-cat" I will revise my opinion of both of them.

  Watchtower Propaganda

  many have argued that articles in awake!

  in recent years show that watchtower was letting itself be told what do by the purple beast, namely, promote the united nations in its writings.

  i can understand how many might quickly find support for this claim, for there are, indeed, many articles in awake!
