im asking this because lately in the uk 2 girls were murdered that were only 12 yrs old and now 59% population of the uk want the death penalty reinstated.. i assume you already have the death penalty in the usa, but do you think it is effective reducing 1st degree murder and potential child molesters,would you like to see the death penalty removed in the united states or not.. i wonder if the death penalty will be reinstated in the uk what do you think, personally i dont think it will maybe the politicians are afraid they wont get as many votes.
I try not to debate - just a waste of time IMO. I don't need books or stats to tell me something is wrong with the system, my personal experience is good enough for me.
Me neither. All statistics do is get in the way. From my personal experience, there's very little wrong with the system, crime is practically non-existent, death is rare and hunger is a thing of the past. Good-looking girls don't seem to like having sex, but apart from that everything is peachy

in other cases guilt is not always so clear and compelling ... and I suppose life in prison is the best ... or banishment to some remote island ...
For people who may be innocent? Surely if there's a chance they're not guilty, they should be released.

Maybe giving large amounts of money to terrorists who have already killed two innocent people, is not such a good idea.

I don't think we have a good enough criminal justice system and record of safe convictions to warrant it although if there was no doubt (as opposed to proved beyond all reasonable doubt) and it was a horrific crime involving children then I think it should be an option.
So if there's some doubt, they should just spend the rest of their lives in prison?

i just read that the name, 'jehovah' was created 700 years ago by a catholic monk who took the vowels from the word, 'lord' and combined them with the letters yhwh (the unpronounceable, biblical term for god).. anyone ever heard this or know a credible source for this info?.

there are other traditions that we know about that they did not follow and so why would they not continue to use the Name that even Jesus used. That is a fact that you can not deny.
When did Jesus use the Name? If he did, it was never recorded in the Bible. Even where Jesus uses Kyrios (which the NWT mistranslates as "Jehovah") it is only when quoting from the Hebrew Scriptures. He always referred to God as "Father" and encouraged us to do the same.
But, it was until after that when Matthew wrote his Gospel more than likely in Hebrew wher he was quoting from the Septuigent. Yes, he quoted from the Septuigent which can be determined from the words he used.
So Matthew wrote his gospel in Hebrew but quoted from a Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures? And then his gospel was translated into Greek and all evidence that it had ever been written in Hebrew was destroyed? A little far-fetched, don't you think?
Why doesn't the Watchtower Society make all its material available on the Internet? They already have it all on CD, right? It would save them a fortune (it's somehow costing them $20-$50 to produce those CDs) and the "truth" (ahem!) would be available to everyone with an Internet connection. Apostates wouldn't be able to lie about what was in a 1950s Watchtower, people could check it straight from the source? I wonder why they don't do that!

I do. You ignored the advice given by the Watchtower Society and performed a search for sites relating to Jehovah's Witnesses. You then came across this site and either missed or ignored the tagline that says "The place to discuss anything relating to Jehovahs Witnesses and the WatchTower Society". Such freedom of speech should have warned you that it was not a Watchtower-approved site. Then you spent time registering a username and posting an arrogant content-free message. Oops! Stumbled indeed.

i immediately recognised this as a scientology scam (ok, he was standing outside the scientology building) but it got me thinking.. ireland is a small country, and over 90 percent of the population are catholic.

Ireland is a small country, and over 90 percent of the population are Catholic. Most of the rest are Anglican or Presbyterian. Dublin, however, where I've been living for the last three years is much more culturally diverse than the rest of the country. While I've been living here I've come across Scientologists, Mormons, Raelians, Hare Krishnas, several varieties of born again Christian and even some Catholics preaching publicly in some form. I have never seen any Jehovah's Witnesses, nor any evidence that they exist. Not a single copy of The Watchtower, not so much as a tract. In three years!
At least in this city, their claim to be the only ones preaching - or indeed to be preaching at all - seems utterly absurd.
