  If Your Aged Parent Asked U Not To Give Them Blood, Would U Agree?

  This is a tough one and totally dependent on the circumstances and the recent mindset of the persons.

  For example recently while visiting my Grandmother she had a heart attack right in front of me. She has always stated not to "save" her, she has strict DNR papers. She was ready to go when the LORD called. I reacted on my own accord and called EMS, kept her lucid and talking. I was 'slow' on getting to the hospital with all the calls alerting family and gathering her meds and DNR papers. The hospital stabilized her enough to have her transported to a Heart Hospital before I got there. Before I reached the other hospital 100 miles away she had already been to surgery and stented.

  The ending: She is happy to be alive! She adjusted her thinking to accept that the Lord was preparing her for greater things and put me there to make sure his plan was carried out. The DNR is now only for vegetative states.

  My mom still is clinging to the blood thing, she knows I will disregard the matter but keeps me as her POA. Reason: It won't be her fault she said no, but I decided to overrule. Life is meant to be held precious and if a JW is given blood because of POA overriding they are not guilty or automatically DAd. I will happily play the "bad guy"

  2nd AA meeting. Would value opinions

  i went to my 2nd aa meeting last night and came away with doubts as to whether this would work for me, so would value peoples opinion especially those who attend aa.. there were one or two there that were quite evangelical, which obviously works for them.

  also within the program there is alot of emphasis on god or a higher power.

  for many this higher power is the group itself, yet for some it is god.. i spoke to someone sitting by me about this who said that to make sobriety sometimes you have to fake it and go along with the god thing.. at the end of meetings there is a short prayer which i do not want to take part in.

  My experience with AA (as a family member of a former emotional drinker)

  They tried to make him a "victim". That he had no control except to never drink again. That this was a life-long disease or battle. Not a matter of personal responsiblity. He was condemed for life.

  Sorry AA didn't work at all and created a deep depression and feelings of worthlessness and failure. In the end we went with medication that took the 'edge' off while he drank less and less and learned new coping skills and healthier interactions and dietary choices. The body's metabolism adapts with dietary changes. We worked on increasing his tolerance to alcohol too, he learned to drink with meals not on an empty stomach. He was able to regain self control and respect. We got to the reasons why he drank (emotional/coping), and he learned that drinking was not an acceptable crutch. He learned how to drink as an adult. He learned personal responsibility. We are all much healthier, wealthier and wise as a result of him becoming more "full" of his own being.

  We enjoy wine tours, occassional cocktails and adult moderation.

  AA often on treats the symptoms not the root.

  Most alcoholics drink to forget, dull the pain, not to feel lonely, or to fit in the crowd. All are coping skills or self esteem based problems.

  But that is just my two cents and experience.

  Step 1.) Enroll in a Western Civilization Course at a local Community College
  Step 2.) Write up a fake test with one of the questions asking what date the Southern Kingdom of Israel fell to Babylon.
  Step 3.) Put in 607 B.C.E. as your answer and have a friend mark it wrong.
  Step 4.) Go to whatever Witness representative you want and ask them to help you dispute the answer to that question. Ask them to look up the Society’s sources on Israel falling in 607 B.C.E.

  You have no idea the can of worms you just opened for the Elders in my KH!

  I agree that we should dig deeper, there is nothing wrong with verifying facts. Isn't this what we have learned from being JWs and coming to the realization of our errors for not fact-checking the "stated facts" of the WT. If it is real and true it will be real and true.

  i find they are similar to the stages someone might go through when they find out they are going to die soon.

  Soup Recipes Needed

  I like potatoe soup on cold days.

  One of my favorites comes from AOL Called "Ann's one-pot Potato Soup"

  4 peeled potatoes
  1 small onion
  4 green onions
  1 garlic clove
  3 tbsp butter
  3 cups chicken broth
  3/4 cup whipping cream
  1 cup milk
  dash white pepper

  1. Chop the potatoes, onions and green onions. Finely chop the garlic clove.
  
  2. In heavy skillet, lightly saute the onions and garlic.
  
  3. Add the potatoes and chicken broth. Simmer until the potatoes are tender.
  
  4. Mash the potatoes, onions and garlic with a potato masher. Add the cream, milk, salt and pepper and heat through.

  My modifications include twice the potatoes. I use for as above and then put the soup in the processor, once blended and creamy I add the other 4 potatoes and litely mash them for some chunkiness. I serve with crisp bacon, but bacos would do too.
