  here is a question for you.

  i'll give a little back ground.

  i was raised in the witness organization however in about 1993 i encountered much hypocrisy and left for about 3 years.

  No, you were not.

  I too was raised, actually spent the most formative years in the post 75 era. I went to a KH which I understand now to be very liberal (probably why we were disbanded and redistricted). I was pretty much under the same idea. I moved in the early 80's to a different KH, like you it was all about blind allegiance and not Berean discernment. The WTs have steadily been preaching this more and more as the GB has less and less direction.

  From researching the JW history I see that the control has been around since Russell let himself be referred to as the "faithful and wise servant".

  When you left how long did it take you to get out of the JW mind set ??

  how long before something happened (i:e 9/11) before you stopped thinking the big a was coming??.

  i read 7 news papers a week it took me a long time to read about some big bad event without thinking this is it the big a is about to happen now i read it for what it is.. what about you.

  I haven't completely but am looking forward to the day!

  As for the Big A, I am working on transitioning my thinking from a R&F to the WTS.

  I heard the expression a couple of time that the WTS says to expects the Big A like it will happen tomorrow , but to plan like it ain't never gonna happen.

  As a R&F my plans for the future didn't include retirement; only paradise. Since I am no longer contributing to the WWF of Pedophiles we are instead using the money to maintain 3 IRA Roth accounts, and donations toa local food bank, and battered womens shelter.

  Pledge of Allegiance

  south africa is considering bringing in a "pledge" that kids in school will repeat each day.

  we never had such a thing as kids growing up, but when the national anthem was sung, we always had to stay seated and not participate.

  i remember always hearing about flag saluting in other countries.

  I personally never got any flack over the flag fluff, yet I got hell for all else.

  I stood during the Pledge everyday as a way of being respectful (my public school also played the anthem during the pledge). I never put my hand on my heart or uttered those words. I think the fact that I stood instead of staying seated during things like this eased tensions.

  I am sure that the US pledge was meant to unite, as I am sure your proposed pledge is meant to do. In the end you it is a matter of choice, do you agree with the pledge being said? Is the pledge mandatory or voluntary?

  I am personally still anti-Pledge, but this doesn't mean that I am not appreciative of my nation. I love my liberties, my way of life, and the land on which I call home. I care deeply for those who are wearing or have worn the uniform.

  I was taught my allegiances were to be in this order:

  1. God Almighty and his accord

  2. Family

  3. Texas

  4.United States.

  For those who do not feel it is a breach of neutrality, please consider adopting a unit, or send random cards of encouragement to the troops. So little can mean so much when far away from home and in a combat zone.

  The D.O. gave some 'good' advice regarding the internet at the Assembly

  the d.o.

  gave us some really good advice at this weeks circuit assembly, he was talking about the dangers of the internet, he gave the usual warnings about teenagers meeting strangers or apostates, and dating websites.. but this time he also told the patents in the audience that there is software available which can monitor every website that is visited and everything that is typed on the computer, i was shocked, he was advising the parents to spy on their children, i suppose it might be ok if the child is 10yo but what if he or she is late teens, and they discover that their parents have spied on them, imagine how that will spilt the family, and for what?

  the cure is worst then the problem.. its simple a case of the wts being paranoid of the interent and they want no one on it..

  i have a really great imagination.

  you have to have one to get through five hours of meetings per week at a young age.

  Here is a thought on the cross:

  Two men are at Chili's enjoy a meal with their fellow worshipers after services. Each have suits, dress shirt and shoes, each has a tie pin. One has a cross, the second a watchtower logo. What is the difference here? Is there any difference at all. How many sisters have bookbags with the WTS logo, bookmarkers, tie bars etc? Both the cross and the image of the watchtower can be linked supposedly to pagan identifiers.

  Anyone attending the Memorial this year?

  I am expected to be there, since I am still attending.

  I am thinking about announcing that I have decide to attend elsewhere since the rented facility will be packed like sardines (and I have small children and will spend most of the time walking about the hotel lobby anyway), then hold my own at home privately (saw that idea on another forum). The more I read without WTS blinders the more I question whether only the "anointed" are to partake. Seems more like an event of genuine contemplation for all those who believe in Jesus as the Messiah.

  Do you guys remember the big push to baptize kids?

  it was in the 80's i think but they began stressing the urgency of baptism for anyone who was "at an age of understanding".

  i heard several assembly talks that said kids under ten could be baptized if they qualified.. this sticks in my mind because my kids were 12 or so and not qualified in my view.

  my ex wife pushed my daughter into baptism at 12, she is now 32, not a witness and we both laugh about it.. www.isnrblog.com.

  For our hall it was years 1987-89, all bapitized but me. I didn't qualify according to the Elders (like the Bible ever had an occurence of baptism denial), and I don't believe in children baptism unless under dying circumstances. Since I was at my Father's during the summers I missed the baptismal question announcement in 1985, when I did hear it in 1988 I was shocked. Even as a 14 year old I knew a legally binding membership initiation rite versus a Christian baptism!

  What J.W teaching did you find the hardest to accept??

  for me it was the fact that god is allowing all these innocent people to get killed to prove a point ,i mean it was a big bet he had with satan.. i explained it to my wife this way if i had our children killed in the most horriable way just to show they couldn't live without me how does that make me look?.
