The truth is sometimes painful at the time but I would still want to know it.

Would you rather have the truth, or your feelings spared?
by Bumble Bee inif it was me, i'd rather have the truth up front.
i went through an experience where someone didn't tell me the truth about a situation, thought that by not being totally honest, my feelings would be spared.
maybe at the time, they were, but afterwards when i found out the truth i was deeply hurt and confused.

They Keep You In By Using Guilt!
by minimus indo you realize that the organization keeps you captive through the manipulation of guilt?
they make you feel guilty because you didn't auxillary pioneer when you knew you could've.. they make you feel bad about yourself for masturbating although they know everyone does it.. they try to make you feel bad because you didn't contribute as much money as you could because you went on vacation....and so forth.. isn't it great to not feel guilt anymore over these things???

ARE YOU PRO-UNION OR ANTI-UNION?
by Mary inwould you rather work in a unionized or non-unionized environment?
the place where i work recently voted 'no', we don't want a union in here (after being harassed by a very large union for the last 5 years).
there were some who voted 'yes', but the majority of us voted 'no' and those that were pro-union are quite pissed off that the rest of us 'fail to see the light'.

I am and have always been pro-union in the work place. I have experienced how workers are treated in lower paid jobs many times and even tried to start a union myself. Employers want to make maximum profit by paying minimum wages and without a union workers are dependent on the good-will of their employer. We have laws now which try to ensure safety in the workplace and a minimum wage is paid, but most people have benefits which have been fought for by trade unions in the past.
I agree that there needs to be a balance but without a union workers are at a grave disadvantage IMO

A truly amazing man. It is very rare for people with his disease to survive, let alone achieve what he has done. I admire him greatly.

Something I learned from being born-in
by dinah inbeen thinking and painting today.. anyway, my mind started wandering and settled onto this: being born in has made me more understanding of people since i woke up from the cult.
i came here, met a bunch of other born-in peeps who immediately understood.
we have all kinda branched out in different directions.

I wasn't born into the JW's but I can understand how being so can make you detached from people on the outside and perhaps lacking in empathy for them. In a way its like living in a goldfish bowl.

My mother told me today that the end is so close
by TooBad TooSad inshe has been a faithful jw for over 50 years.
she was taught that the end was coming in the late 50's.. today she said that the terrible conditions in the world today prove that the end is near.
i told her that i. think that conditions in the world were a lot worse during ww1 and ww2 and it looks like things.

Pharasaical thinking....
by Pahpa ini know a number of parents who have left the organization and whose children refuse to have anything to do with them because of the disfellowshipping policy of the watchtower society.
these children justify their position declaring that loyalty to jehovah/organization has priority over "honoring" one's parents.
the striking similarity of this position to that of the pharisees of jesus' day can not be ignored.

The honor would come by visiting them, by checking on them, by informing them about your life and the life of
their grandchildren, letting them see those grandchildren, and the big one- eating with them regardless of the fact that they are DF'ed.OTWO - When I had been DF'd my son shunned me. He is an MS and quoted to me that it was a question of loyalty and held to it. For years I didn't know what was going on in his life and he didn't know what was happening to me, except when I wrote to him but he didn't answer. When I was reinstated things changed and I was overjoyed to have him back in my life because I love him dearly. It is still very painful for me when I think that he could shut me out of his life so easily and absolutely and believe that it was the right thing to do. I know it is cult mind control but can still feel resentful at times over it. What is worse is that it could happen all over again because I now know that the WT hasn't got the "Truth"and have told my son. At the moment he is still okay with me but I am expecting that to change - I could be wrong but doubt it. To have my own son deny me was a terrible thing to happen to me and it has scarred me. I don't think I will ever get over it entirely.

The hypocrisy of former Disfellowshipped people

" their ain't nothin' quite like 'em!.

Layla - I know what you mean by the hypocrisy. Its like a ridiculous game with some of them, but I'm not sure if they realise how pathetic this behaviour really is.
