It never bothered me a lot but I find it worrying that so many of cults originate in America. Why is that?

by dawg inmany of you will be happy to hear that this is my departure from this forum for awhile... i need to wean myself off it, get in shape and record my album... i'll post a link when it comes out.
that said, merry christmas and happy new year to you all.
i've had fun here on this site, almost all of you to a person are intelligent and well meaning.... i remember as a youth, i was a hard core jw, mostly becasue i thought i was doing what was right; as time went on and things didn't add up, i started doing as the bible tells me to do in 1 thess.

No natural affection
by Renegade ini find it strange that the witnesses often rant about natural affection.
but the thing is, when people are disfellowshipped, in most cases the persons family cut off any contact with them, they stray to the other side of the road when they see them etc.
now, this must mean that a witness family only loves you for your behaviour not for who you are.

The longest prayer ever ...
by Vivamus inthe memory of this just popped back into my mind.. i was at a 3 day congress, and the ending prayer was said by this really old brother.
he was one of the survivors of wo ii concentration camps were he was put for being a jw.. anyway, the poor man started his prayer with thanking jah, and then he recalled every piece and play of the three day congress.
i bet the man had written his prayer on paper and rehersed it each day adding a new 15 minutes to it ... he even mentioned a part where a witness lady replayed an incident on the street - she gave witness to by-standers - and one of the people she talked to had a stuffed dog.

I have heard some prayers that seem to go on forever and once forgot myself and said "Amen" before the prayer had finished. I was so embarrassed and wished the ground would open up and swallow me. Afterwards I laughed about it with a couple of sisters but I got some very stern looks from others. I think I was probably "marked" from that time on as a possible trouble maker

Would YOU Be Concerned If The Next President Was A Mormon, Or.....

As soon as I hear the word Mormon I think of cult just as I do with the WT. Any cult is evil IMO so I would be very concerned (freaked out even).

Bluesapphire - I would have loved to of seen their faces when they saw the Christmas tree and decorations, but it has left you worrying about it so I'm sorry you have to deal with this. It sounds like you can pass it off as being done by another family member without your knowledge or agreement which seems a good idea. I hope it all goes well for you

Just finished C of C last night
by dogisgod init took me a while to get thru this book and some of the print was really unclear to make out.
what struck me was the absolute mean spiritedness of the borg toward these brothers who gave their whole lives to the borg.
it also reinforces my experience that once they "make a decision" they will not be disuaded by biblical facts.

I read CoC and it made a huge impact on me. I had all kinds of emotions:- shock, horror, sadness, disgust, and it was the beginning of the end as far as my relationship with the borg went.

The demons in Paris and NYC - More sophisticated than the ones in Timbuktu?
by nvrgnbk inremember the jw concept ( maybe it's a bible concept too) that different regions and nations are ruled by specific demons?.
i always thought that was funny.. like, are the demons in very superstitious regions "extroverted" and cantankerous, while the ones that promote materialism and atheism are more "subtle", sophisticated even?
which region does satan hang out in?.
