At one time I was considered quite spiritual and loved by some. I always felt that I was superfluous with the hierarchy because my husband wasn't a JW, if you know what I mean.

I Felt So Much Rage !!
by Maddie ini watched the programme on channel 4 tonight called " the end of world cult", and had an idea what it would be like but i was still badly affected by it.
perhaps it's the way i am feeling at the moment, but to see the self-named michael travesser proclaiming himself to be the son of god was mortifying.
he manipulated his pathetic deciples (mainly women), for his own narsistic perversions, while they obeyed his every whim with glazed expressions.

You know almost every major cult leader of the 20th century has ties to the adventist Darth - No I didn't know that, but it makes sense because they all predict the end of the world
I just felt immensely sad for them. Particularly his son who looked utterly crushed when it was revealed that his wife and father were sleeping together. I wonder how they'll cope when Armageddon doesn't arrive this Saturday as Michael predicted.
Scotsman - He was desperately clinging to the belief that his father was the Messiah. I thought he looked almost demented.
I watched this program too. Also noticed the glazed expresions of his followers.
I was painfull to watch, but IMHO, I dont think the dubs are on the same scale as this nut bag.
Maybe dubs are members of a different scale/kind of cult?
Feedback?
Shell 69 - I know what you mean about Michael Travesser being a nut bag but at the end of the day, all doomsday/armaggedon cults use vulnerable people who believe them, to further their own ends IMO.
I felt the same when I saw a recent show on the Jim Jones mass suicide. It's odd, becasue at the time of the Jim Jones thing, I was thinking it was soooo different from my religion. Now 30 years later, I see there are some similarities. What's the difference between drinking the kool-aid and refusing a blood tranfusion. You are just as dead either way and only because someone else decided it was the right thing to do. LisaRose - I agree with you, there is little difference. The mind control is the same with the WT, they just try to be more subtle about it and therefore more deceptive. Maddie -

Even though his prophesied doomsday date didn't happen, they still believe in him being the Messiah.
Travesser was an Adventist before he broke away which reminded me of Charles Russell to start with, and everything about it apart from sex with his followers screamed WT at me! There were young people in the cult whose families were trying to get them out and being labelled as demonic for trying to do so.
Do others experience such a strong reaction when watching programmes like this? I felt so much rage!

At what age would you dicuss homosexuality with your children?
by llbh inon recent a thread a poster here discussed about having discovered his daughter was gay.
whilst reading this my 11 year old son was looking over my shoulder, and reading along with me, some of the discussion was quite adult but respectful .
so i began thinking what age would you discuss these things?
-
Maddie
I remember my son went through a phase when he was about 11 of refering to others as being "Gay". So I asked him if he knew what it meant and the conversation went from there. Children vary in emotional maturity so I think it is best to speak about it when you consider they are ready.

Anyone else feel like an emotional mutant at this time of year?
by tall penguin ini've been attempting to infiltrate my friend's christmas traditions in an attempt to understand and appreciate the holiday.
i only had christmas until i was 5 when my mom converted to jw.
before that, christmas was really big in our house.
-
Maddie
Tall Penguin, I can understand why you feel like this because it feels strange to me too. I was brought up celebrating Christmas and even when I converted, my husband wasn't a JW so it still went on in my family. Yet I still feel a bit strange about really getting into the celebration now that I have no reason not to. The JW indoctrination is still hanging around I guess. I'm sure it will fade as time goes on though, so try not to worry too much

The Steps Between JWism and Atheism
by compound complex ingreetings, friends:.
i recently put up a thread entitled "when can i comment?
" new to the thought process of critical thinking, i have felt overwhelmed by the wealth of information now available to a mind opened up to society-banned material.

I am not an atheist so that isn't an issue for me (yet), but I found out the WT was a deceptive cult so I left.

Pets - How do you view them? (Bullcrap article by WT)
by skeeter1 ini saw this on the wt official site..... now, they can't have too much love for fido!
enjoyment is evil, folks.. skeeter.
petshow do you.
-
Maddie
The WT want to control how we feel about our pets now??! I agree that some people get a little off-balance about their animals and I think that sometimes it's because they give unconditional love to their owners. I knew a lady who felt this way about her dogs. Some people have lost faith in human beings because of the way they have been treated so they substitute them with a pet andshower all their love on them. It is sadbut understandable.

Thanks to the Allied Armies of WW2
by edmond dantes indon't get me wrong i am not slighting the incarceration of j. witnesses in the concentration camps but i recently read an article in the wacktower about the suffering endured in the concentration camps.. thanks were profusely given to jehovah and for the fortitude of the brothers and sisters during that terrible time but glaringly not one word of thanks, not one word in recognition of what the allies sacrificed and did was mentioned .no mention at all of any soldier ,sailor or airman laying down their life to rescue the inmates of those hell holes.. do the governing body really believe that no thanks are called for on behalf of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice ?
how can anyone show respect for that crazy cult .do they really believe that jesus is going into battle on their side when they so disregard what others have done for them ?
according to their twisted logic god is going to destroy those veterans who are now old who way back when came to the rescue..

thanks to the USA. noone else. and i'm as "anti-american" as it gets ;)
the british bombed cities like dresden into oblivion, stalin russia was not a bit better than the nazis, the french partially collaborated, the italian switched lines for a profit...
the USA went into europe with huge losses and everyone was happy to find himself on the US side of the parted lands... while the british sent thousands of people back to the russians where they were executed.
but no hard feelings here.. things just come as they come. Superfine Apostate - I think your comments are insulting to all the Allied Armies of WW2 who gave their lives to fight Nazi Germany, and the families that lost their loved ones. Regardless of your views on the decisions taken by the governments of the countries you condemn, how can you disregard the bravery and self-sacrifice of so many. Great Britain were fighting Hitlers Luftwaffe in The Battle of Britain with the help of the Commonwealth countries and through sheer determination and courage won against all the odds and the Blitz of London speaks for itself. The bombing on London went on day and night for months. All of the countries you don't think should get a thank you for their efforts in defeating the Nazis suffered terrible losses and should be respected and appreciated.
