I actually had a lot of success getting scholarships when I described the way I was raised and the hostile view of college I call it a win win, money for me and anti-witness to the scholarship committee.

Ex-JW Teens Get Screwed Out of College
by dontplaceliterature inmy kid sister is dfd and can't get federal aid because she is still considered a dependant.
she lives alone, has no job at the moment, and has no friends.
my folks won't give her a dime for college, so she's basically screwed.

There are processes in place for students like your sister. She needs to talk to the financial aid office at the college she is pursuing. I was able to get federal financial aid even though I was still officially married to my husband, who makes a lot of money, because the financial aid officer helped me get in touch with the right people to explain my situation. They also helped me get scholarship money. I also got a few private loans and none of them required a down payment. In fact, no student loan has to be paid in any way until 6 months after the student stops attending full-time. Get her in touch with a financial aid person, universities want the tuition and so are motivated to find a solution for any student. Good luck to your sis!!
PM me if you would like to know more of my strategies for financing my education.

A fun break from yard work today...
by Rocky_Girl ini'm outside in the 90 heat doing landscaping with my neighbor/ friend.
two women in dresses, nylons, and heels walked carefully across the newly tilled dirt to get to us and start their presentation.. woman 1: we are talking with your neighbors about the increase in crime lately.
do you worry about your safety?.

Mrs Jones: :) thanks!
Shirley: No kidding! And it was especially strange in our neighborhood - where everyone knows where the secret hiding place is for the keys to the neighbor's truck, just in case we need to borrow it.

Serv. Mtng DEMO from last week: How would a "real" householder respond?
by Open mind inmy wife and i call in to the cbs/tms/sm once or twice a month and only listen to the announcements.
last week the announcements included a demo of a jw woman trying to peddle mags to a female householder.
her intro went like this:.

I was the householder in a demo once with an elder friend. He asked me last minute because the other guy didn't show up. He told me that I was supposed to be busy and to just think of something to say to that effect.
On stage, without any rehearsal, I said, with a straight face, that I was in a hurry because I was about to go sky diving and I didn't want to miss the plane.
After he regained his composure and the audience stopped laughing at his stunned reaction, he went on with his schpeil. He always specified what I was supposed to say after that...

Jamie Bowers: I hope so. I want so badly to free them from such a dismal outlook. It is so sad that all they can see is bad news everywhere.
Bobbi: My friend teased me about how evil I am for the rest of the day... I am so mild that it is pretty funny that anyone would be scared of me ;)

I'm outside in the 90° heat doing landscaping with my neighbor/ friend. Two women in dresses, nylons, and heels walked carefully across the newly tilled dirt to get to us and start their presentation.
Woman 1: We are talking with your neighbors about the increase in crime lately. Do you worry about your safety?
Friend: This is a pretty low crime area, so no.
Woman 1: *looks flustered*
Woman 2: But would you agree that crime has increased in general in the world today? The news is full of sad stories.
Friend: There was a great piece last night about a record number of young people who showed up to build and plant a community garden downtown. That was pretty uplifting!
Woman 2: *trying to gain control of the conversation* That is a nice story, but in general, crime has increased in the last decade...
Friend: look, I don't want to waste your time or her time (points at me) and you look miserable in those nylons. I am Jewish and I have no interest in your religion.
Woman 1: Is it Christianity you have problems with? Because most churches teach...
Friend: Trust me, I don't want anything to do with your church.
Woman 1: *cringes at the word church* I would like to share a quick scripture with you that may give you a different perspective...
Friend: *turns to me* I thought you said that they would leave if I said I wanted then to go.
Me: Tell them to put you on the do not call list.
Friend: *turns to them* Okay, put me on the do not call list. I'm not going to join your cult.
Me: *laughing* Nice!
Woman 1: *clearly offended* I can assure you, we are not a cult.
Woman 2: *to me* How did you know about our list?
Me: I used to be one of you. Now I just warn people about your dangerous policies that endanger the lives of children and break up families.
Woman 1: Are you disfellowshipped?
Me: Nope. But you should be careful, I am am evil apostate! *smiling big*
Their faces paled and they walked as fast as they could in heels through the loose soil. My neighbor was laughing. They started up my walk and I yelled to them that no one in my house was interested either. They stopped and wrote some things down and kept on. Later our other neighbor told us that he asked them about the pedophile case in CA. They didn't answer, just walked away. I'll bet that they were anxious for break after my rough neighborhood.

Ironing out demon interference can be a real bummer.
LOL! I think that "inserting" demons into the site might be trickier...

I was held captive 26 years
13 as a child who based her self worth on how well she sold magazines at the door - before the donation arrangement.
5 as a baptized, regular pioneer who based her self worth on how many hours, placements, studies, etc she had. One month I hit 160 hrs...
8 as a confused, inactive JW who felt no self worth because I still believed that I was not good enough.
But I have made up for a lot in the last 6 years by realizing that I am smart, fun, accomplished woman. I am a nice person and a loyal friend. My self worth comes from within now!!

How many ex-jws poster here now believe in Hellfire, immortality of soul, trinity, etc;
by booker-t ini am just curious about this because although i agree with many of the posters here that the wt society is guilty of many horrible deeds, i still believe they are right when it comes to doctrinal things as i mention.
especially hellfire.
i just don't see how anybody that has studied the bible for many years like many of the ex-jws here can make an about face and go back to believing hellfire.

Hell: No (unless you are refering to my years as a JW)
Trinity: No
Immortal Soul: Maybe... I have no idea what awaits me after I die. I would like to think that my unique spirit would not be gone forever, but if it does, in fact, disappear, I will not know. No harm, no foul.
