My (elder's daughter) friend was df'ed for 6 months before being reinstated. She was not shunned in any real sense of the word during that time, except sitting in the back during meetings. She even attended our friend's wedding. Yet, I was told not to talk to my brother at all since he was out of our home at the time he was df'ed.

Were you ever DF'd? For what and how long?
by QuestioningEverything ini was df'd when i was 20 or so for fornication.
i got reinstated when i was 24. i had a son during that time and i was worried about us if we didn't get back to the fold and 'protection' of the organization.

Today my husband surprised me...
by mrsjones5 inyesterday we were getting our van repaired and while that was going on we decided to window shop at a really cool furniture consignment shop.
i saw a baker's rack that was really nice and that i would love to have.
hubby looked at it too and thought it was a nice piece but we had to leave the shop to pick our van.

The reek of desperation on their breath when they think you might be receptive to their message. The look of ecstasy in their eyes when they mistakenly think that the big J has "opened your heart" to the truth again.

If I do not go and speak with the elders by Sunday, then he will speak with them on my behalf.
by TimothyT inmy friend called round before and has just left.
he told me that he was worried about me and that he wanted to speak to me as to why i havnt been going to the meetings or on the field service.
i told him that im just not discussing the reasons at all.

It will save you a lot of heartache if you just ignore it and let them do what they will. That is hard if you have family "in" and are worried about how they may treat you, I know. But keep your chin up and a smile on your face even when it feels grotesque. I have a friend who went through this same situation. It was a hard road, but he is at peace with himself now for the first time in his life. They only have as much authority over you as you allow. Be who you are and be free. And come back here when you need us to tell you that you are fantastic and wonderful just the way you are!

How big is a demon?
by Terry inthings which exist are real enough.
we can measure them.
they are just this big and no bigger or smaller.. they are here and not there.. imaginary things have the luxury of being any size.

TIKKUN OLAM, Repairing the World
by designs inone of the things i think i missed most in the decades i was a jw was not being involved in what judaism calls tikkun olam or repairing the world.
the most basic of things humans can do for each other and for this earth.
we see needs and problems and we should respond- hunger, poverty, the environment whatever the need we as humans are called on by our humanity to fill.

My philosophy: Do what I can to help other people today and if the world ends tomorrow, who cares. I am involved with several councils in my town that focus on lifting people out of homelessness and poverty, including Project Homeless Connect and Interfaith Hospitality Network, and I can see the difference we make every day. These organizations work on long-lasting sustainable solutions, while relieving immediate needs, ie food, clothing, and shelter, as well. It is ridiculous to think that it is more important and 'life saving' to hand a starving man a religious magazine, even if it weren't full of crap, than to feed him while teaching him how to feed himself and his family. People have to have their lower physical needs met before they can focus on higher spiritual needs. God gave me the compassion to want to help and the intelligence to figure out how to help. I would be wasting His gifts to me if I did not work to repair my world. Perhaps God's plan is to let US bring peace to the world using the gifts He has already given to us.

I put pudding cups in the freezer. It reminds me of the DC. (they were always still a little frozen at lunchtime) My favorite thing as a teenager was helping to set up the stage display. We always had a little pond with a waterfall and goldfish. A little bridge (decorative only) and a ton of flowers. Then, one year it was taken away because it distracted from the "message." Come to think of it, that was my last year going to a DC. Hmmm...

My girlfriend and her hubby go on little vacations without each other all the time. I think I traveled with her more than he did over the last year. I think it's pretty healthy to have separate interests and plans.
