Jesus would be so proud!!
by Frequent_Fader_Miles ini came across this little tidbit on the facebook page of a regular pioneer.
true, jdubs aren't supposed to be on facebook, but what she put as her employment was rather interesting.. "employer - jehovah.
regular pioneer sep 2009 to presentspending an average of 840hrs a year teaching persons the bible, teaching persons asl ,listening and giving scriptural advice on personal problems, telling idiots to enjoy the rest of their day, encouraging others, being always prepared for impromptu assignments and having satisfying fun!".

So where are you now?
by fade_away inare any of you on here not living the dreams you had as a kid because of the "no higher education" rule?.
i was a born in jw and remained one until the age of 25. by my late teens i knew what i wanted to do with my life.
i'm about to write a lengthy history explaining why i'm not currently in the carreer i wanted, so you can skip this boring story and just comment if you want to.. i was raised to be a loyal jw and since birth already had many goals chosen for me.

I started college at 27 as a single mother of 2 kids. I have worked 2-3 part time jobs at a time to pay my rent while carrying 15-24 credits a semester. I have won thousands of dollars in scholarships (I go after the little ones that no 18-year-old wants to write an essay for)and taken out some student loans.
I believe that I was meant to travel the path I walked and my perspective is wider because of it. You are in control of your own destiny. It is not too late to live your dream!

Df'd and Meetings
by IMHO inwhy the set procedures for ones that are df'd when attending meetings?.
(i think i know the answer to this but i look forward to your thoughts first).

"If they don't leave immediately, what happens? Does an elder come up and ask them to leave?"
Any DF'ed person attending meetings is working toward reinstatement. They are unlikely to stretch the rules given to them since the elders laying down the law are the ones who will decide when they have shown a "humble and repentant spirit" and are worthy of returning.
So the elders may talk to a DF who did not leave promptly. And the DF will tread on eggshells to please these elders. Some elders are overly tough on them because A) they feel it is good to show "tough love" *blech,* and B) they enjoy the power of their unearned authority.
Belligerent DFs will not usually attend the meetings.

by highdose ini can remember when i was first assimilated, the jw's did alot together, they went to the park together, they had picnics, days out together.. .
somehow by the 90's this had stopped.

@Moshe - 11 kids!!!
I think you are right about no invites. I would bet that poor mom seriously needed an invite or two just to reconnect with the rest of the world. My mom did and she only had 4 of us.

Would You Refer To Jehovah's Witnesses As A "Christian" Religion?
by minimus inthey regard themselves as "true christians".. do you view them as christians?.
-
Rocky_Girl
If they want to say they are Christian, let them. They usually treat the word "Christian" as a dirty word.
Christians are an offshoot of Judaism, just like Islam, JWs are an offshoot of a Christian sect. It is like a copy of a copy of a copy- not a good representation of the original. In this case, it isn't even a good representation of any of the copies.
Unfortunately, it was the love, kindness, charity, and social responsibility that was lost in all of the 'splits' so the JWs are left with nothing good. It is hard to find a religious group that has no redeeming qualities, but here they are.

I remember when they started the 10 people with an elder present rule. My family has 6 people (4 kids) so the invitations to dinner and picnics stopped completely for us. It really hurt my brother, who didn't make friends easily, and my parents. I also remember losing treat night after book study.
They are really shooting themselves in the foot with these rules and limits. Young people who don't connect with the congregation will not stay and will not care about being shunned by strangers.

When You Left The "Truth" Were People Shocked?
by minimus ini faded and when witnesses realized i had abandoned the faith, they were shocked!

YES!!! I was a regular pioneer (6 years running) engaged to a Bethelite and best friends with the CO's wife. My fiance broke up with me, I quit pioneering, and disappeared off the face of the Earth. Some people probably still think I am a JW and just moved away. Who knows. My family and the friends who knew me best -and abandoned me when I stopped attending- were blown away!

I will put my vote in with the "individual" crowd. One thing I realized after I left is that different JWs view Jesus differently. I never felt very connected with Jesus and focused solely on Jehovah as a JW, while my mom feels that her faith is almost entirely reliant on Jesus. I am not a Christian, she is. I am not a JW, she is. But, I'm sure there are many JWs that aren't Christian. IMO: The JW doctrine can go either way because it isn't as clear about Jesus as it is about Jehovah.
