One in every congregation
by WTWizard init seems that there is always one self-righteous idiot in every congregation that is like this:.
first, the person will find every opportunity to see how much wealth people have.
this wealth is in either time or material things.

It could be anything really... and everything...
We make decisions every day without thinking about it that are very important - do we allow people to treat us disrespectfully in traffic, or in line at the market? It's important because it is a reflection of how we feel about ourselves. Or, a reflection of our inner self-control in the face of rudeness. Yet, we usually don't deliberate about our reaction - it just happens. It is the same with so many little, important things that happen every day. We don't think about it, we just naturally move through the choices.
Yet we will deliberate for days about what to serve for dinner this weekend to friends we hardly ever see.
Another thought: I wonder how many people truly think about their religious choices. If someone is not raised in a high-control religion, or are never hurt by their church, do they even question whether they belong there? Could the question be about beliefs? political - religious
I can't answer for the above author's intention, I can just riff off what I read.
What do you think it means, DM6??

Pam's Girl: My middle name is Lynne as well - my mom's middle name - I hardly ever see it spelled that way.

I think your name is beautiful. Mine is pretty plain -Angela- though my friends call me -Angie- or -GiGi-
I named my children traditional names that could be shortened -Nicholas- and -Nathan- because that is what my husband wanted.
I like unique names as long as they aren't words that mean something else that's unattractive like -Pilot Inspektor- or -Halo Reach- (a teen mom I met recently thought this was brilliant).
Yours, however, is a great name. Why didn't people use your name?

Anyone wanna place a bet on what will happen to me when I have to go to the Kingdom Hall this Saturday??
by Coffee House Girl inwell since there is no "betting" (as it reeks of gambling) in jdub land, lets place a friendly wager on what will happen to me when i go to my father's "memorial" service at the kingdome hall this saturday..... to give you newbies background info: i am neither df'd or da'd- i left 2 years ago with no explanation.
i have been hounded by elders in my cong because they have suspicions that i am living with a man, but they have no proof (well, no proof in jdub land- you know...two witness rule).
after many attempts to get me to meet with them- i finally sent the elders a "cease & desist" letter after one of them spied in my miniblinds to see me eating breakfast with someone (they couldn't identify who).

I'm betting B. They hope all of the warm christian fellowship will lead you to start back to meetings so they can proceed with C as further proof of their love for you. Then, if you are a masochist, A will be the next phase until you have repented of all your evil.
Fortunately, you will only have to deal with B :).
My deepest condolences on your loss. You are in my thoughts.

The JWs are imperfect, so what?
by Rocky_Girl inthis is a common reply to any evidence given about false doctrines taught by the witnesses.. we all know that every religion has its faults and scandals.
so why do we tolerate these imperfections in those faiths and not in the witnesses?.
my answer: because other faiths admit that they are basing their doctrines on faith alone or tradition.

Average Joe: I agree with you wholeheartedly. Every belief should be measured equally. I am instantly turned off of any group that claims to have all the answers and no room for doubt.

Ah! There was proof of God's choice. I hadn't thought of the tablets. But what did the tablets say? Ten commandments - not the entire law: that came later. Written by men. Did it say that they were God's chosen people? I will have to check out what tradition says.
illuminator - good point

I understand what you are saying, Sabastious. It plays right into their doctrine. The Jews were (are still) imperfect, but God chose them. That is what it all comes down to. "God chose us, so we are allowed to make mistakes. God didn't choose you and your mistakes prove that He isn't with you."
But I have derailed my own thread. (haha) Is it just the control factor that makes it intolerable?
Or, should we ever tolerate imperfection in one doctrine and no others?

The JWs believe that God chose the Isrealites because the Isrealites said that God chose them from all of the groups on Earth and revealed Himself to them as a group and gave them strange laws to follow.
Sounds familiar...
