Im Going To Be Disfellowshipped!
by TimothyT inin 6 months, my life has completely changed!.
i have chosen to be gay, i no longer suffer with guilty suicidal feelings, i have the most amazing boyfriend, and my parents and friends accept me for who i am.. i was informed today that a judicial comitee will be formed to disfellowship me.
i dont feel any kind of bitterness or sadness despite the fact that this is all i have known for 20 years and im about to lose some very close friends.. on the contrary, i feel fabulous!!!

I am thinking of writing a book. Would you read it?
by ekruks ini had a nervous breakdown, growing up in a very strict, abusive religious community that you know of.. .
living throughout the world in modern 21st-century cities, we strongly believe the end of the world is nigh due to moral decline, and thoroughly follow a moral code which i respect, seeing drugs etc.
do harm people.

I would suggest doing some research on creative nonfiction, or literary nonfiction. It will help you set up the scene for your story so that you don't have to tell the reader as much; it will allow your reader to experience your pain and understand your reactions and the reaction of the people around you.
Consider writing it as a memoir. In a memoir, you tell your story and can use hearsay since it is a given that the "facts" are filtered through your perception of the events.Plus, it will be more appealing to readers.
Also, find a good person to read it as you go and give you feedback. Good luck!

The art of letting go
by journey-on ini have had to let go of many things in my life.
as i look back, i realize i might have made some mistakes in the process and procedure whereby it was accomplished.. when one decides to leave something or someone they have loved deeply, it is difficult, if not impossible (for some), to just turn loose.
there are physical, emotional, and psychic pains that comes with it.

My natural instinct is to tear free and run, but I have learned that unraveling things and having an exit plan before leaving is a lot smarter.

I've been wondering is meditation bad for a person!
by Star tiger ini've been looking into the idea of meditation as of clearing some of my bad thoughts about my jehovah's witness past, will it help remove all the crap that gb drilled into me, but it seems like a different outlook that i hadn't considered, and maybe open my third eye,lol !!!!.
any suggestions or experiences would be most welcome.. best regards,.

Meditation has helped me so much over the years. Once I blocked out all other inputs, I could finally hear my inner voice and make better decisions in life. You can learn a lot about yourself through meditation.

Was there anything different about you that helped you escape the WT?
by Giordano infor me i know it was because i was a reader.. i began reading books at the age of 13, this was in the 1950's.
because there were some serious family problems i had two escapes i could count on reading and associating with my friends at the kingdom hall.. as i devoured steinbeck, hemingway, wolf etc.
my world view expanded....it had to.

Stubbornness. I refused to apologize or repent of the rumors that I was accused of in a JC -I proved they were false but they wanted an apology to an elder's wife who's daughter was involved to save face. Then I stopped going to meetings to avoid the drama. I refused to meet with them to 'talk' about my lack of meeting attendance. I refused to say anything incriminating. I was too stubborn to go back when I still believed. Now I don't believe anymore, so here I am.

religion only to do with belief?
by Curtains inas jehovahs witnesses we were taught that the truth (belief) unifies every aspect of our lives and is of paramount importance.
are other like religions like this also?
do they emphasize belief to the same extent?.

I am in the US and I have a general access to EBSCOHost that is shared by all RMC students of all disciplines. We have a religious thought/history program so it is odd that it doesn't pop up. I will check out his site.

Watchtower on women shopping for shoes

I am a shoe-holic!! I have tons of girlfriends. The ONLY person I can get to go out on a shoe shopping expedition is my homosexual guy friend who loves shoes (and bags) even more than I do. I think it is just like everything else - everyone is different.
The picture is ridiculous and an insult to us shoe-holics. I would never settle on one pair! And, I'm not indecisive - I know when I try them on if they are a YES!!
All joking aside, I dislike pictures like this one because it reinforces stereotypes. As much as I like to make fun of myself and laugh at my idiosyncrasies, it can be harmful when these jokes are applied to entire groups of people. It is a hard line to draw between humor and inflexibility.

Hi Curtains: I would love to read the piece by Graham Harvey and I do have access to EBSCOHost. I was unable to find anything called "Myth a Religious Studies Approach" or anything similar attributed to Graham Harvey. Could it be a portion of another work?

Angry mob of Facebook JWs.
by fade_away ini was looking through my facebook and one of the friends i have on there is very angry at a particular girl who added brothers and sisters from different congregations as friends for the sole purpose of bashing the jws on their profiles.
they use the word "bashing" but who knows really if all she was doing was showing them genuine, unbiased information about the wt.
anyway, i got a kick out of the fact that an "apostate" infiltrated a lot of jw profiles as a "friend" then went all apostate on them!.

I totally read the question wrong. I would be thrilled to find someone I knew on here. (I've told so many that it is possible) I did meet someone that was in my parent's congregation on here.
