Burn, if you read up on that discovery (which was made over a year ago) you'd understand that it isn't "soft tissue" per se but a form of highly detailed fossil that still shows cellular structures.
I'm not entirely sold on ALL the aspects of evolutionary theory but the basic idea is sound. Just like I don't agree with all forms of quantum string theory, but I do agree that gravity exists.
On the other hand the biblical creation story is just another myth in my eyes.

Adam and Eve were NEVER perfect.
by gaiagirl injw's frequently say that the first human couple were "perfect" and would have lived forever until they gave up perfection by their disobedience.. however, closer reading of the genesis account shows that they were never perfect, instead, they were designed to grow old and die, just like the rest of the animals.
jehovah has adam name all the animals, but finds that none of the animals is suitable as a companion (wonder how this was determined)?.
jehovah clones a companion for adam, and tells them to not eat the fruit of a certain tree, or they will die "in that very day".

Adam and Eve were never perfect because they never existed. The biblical creation story is no less fanciful than any number of other creation myths.
I'm ashamed it took me so long to realize that. -

Anyone else ever do this
by superman ini remember how much emphasis the org used to put on studying your publications, and how looking at other peoples books during the meeting was like seeing a lazar show with bright, hot, multicolored, florescent highlighted pages.
but i never personally enjoyed studying (even when i was more hardcore in it) so since i used to have privileges/responsibilities one of the requirements was to study for all the meetings, so before the meetings i would take a hot yellow and florescent blue marker and quickly just start marking up my books so that it looked like it was studied.
sometimes to look even more spiritual i would take a pen and start writing random crap in the margins, even scribble lines so from far away it looked likes cursive.

Yup, although towards the end I went hardcore-zealous in studying and looking up every single scripture, filling the margins with notes, etc.
Problem is it backfired and caused me to lose my faith when it made me realize that it was all a bunch of bloody (literally) fairy tales. -

Sucks a big one but just concentrate on making it YOUR happiest day and not giving a crap about what your deluded dad thinks. After all, maybe one day he'll regret it and apologize.
In the meantime I can see how it hurts, one of my (former) best friends didn't invite his father to his wedding because his dad is DF'd for apostasy. -

A revelation for me: the revelation of Revelation
by Eyes Open ini was reading the thread about revelation, and some research i did on the beginning of chapter 10 of the apocalyptic book came to mind, so i thought i'd share it here in case anyone's interested.. as an ignorant jehovah's witness, i had no idea of the real literary structure of the book.
the watchtower society makes out the mighty angel in 10:1 who stands on the sea and earth is jesus christ, and that the contents of the little scroll he hands john is a prophecy to be fulfilled after 1914. to grasp the simple truth that the strong angel in 10:1 is the angel alluded to in 1:1, and that the little scroll is actually the scroll which has been progressively unsealed in 6:1 to 8:1, was very satisfying.
it describes the revelation being given to john, which contains the main content of the prophetic work!.

"we do well to consider..." (good grief do I dislike this passive-aggressive trigger phrase)

"finished his/her earthly course" (just say it, fer crying out loud, they're DEAD)
"reach out" (...and kiss my ass) -

Has the Org gone witch-hunting those who are gone, but not Dfd?
by cyber-sista inhey it's been awhile since i've left--almost 5 years now!
i haven't visited this site for quite a while now.
i was never dfd, but i have little contact with anything to do with jws.

Wow, that sounds illegal!
As to a coordinated effort, I don't think so. In my situation the elders have been downright lazy. A couple of half-hearted phone calls and an offer to drop by (which I actually agreed to but they never showed up) is all that I warranted.
My parents still associate with me and I still have contact with a few JW friends but I don't push the religion issue when I'm around them and they don't either. Everybody's satisfied. -

Anyone know the rules on JW's and Tattoo's????
by superman ini'm an inactive fader (only fading and not da'd for the sake of my family) but i still have all of my privileges and haven't done anything (that the hounders know about) that would get me df'd.
however, a fews years ago before i was baptized i got a few tattoos.
i want to get some new ones and get a some of my old ones touched up.

I remember reading up on this and the literature is murky and non-committal but with a negative overtone, something about it being against the old mosaic law code but since xtians aren't bound to it it's a gray area but you shouldn't do it anyway 'cause we said so.
Besides, if you've already got ink how are they going to know that you got new ones? If anyone asks just stare dumbly and say "But I've always had these!" -

Cephyr, every single one of your counterpoints exposing "false information" has been debunked as creationist junk-science.
I will paypal you $50 if you can find peer-reviewed material from reputable academic journals to support any of your arguments about ice cores, radiocarbon dating, dendrochronology, the supposed lack of disease in animals before 4000 BC, and evidence of a global flood.
I'm absolutely serious, because these are the topics that made me lose faith in the bible so if what you're saying is true then it would have a major impact on my life, no?
However I've been to University, I've done actual research in scholarly peer-reviewed publications (unlike your brand of scouring the internet for unsupported misinformation), I've had drawn-out conversations with experts in their field who have pointed me towards even MORE information and after carefully considering all of it I arrived at my conclusion.
You, on the other hand, seem to be desperate for someone to "tickle your ears" with quackery as long as it supports the bible and you ignore evidence to the contrary.
If you would like some easily-digested refutations to your arguments and don't have access to a University library, try the talkorigins archive. They provide ample references so you can verify any claims made in the original academic source material.

How do we know animals have always killed each other?
by inkling inok fellow forum people, i really need your help.. i am trying to put together a concise argument that animals have killed and eaten.
each other since the dawn of time.. i need any fossil evidence that any animal before the "flood", or dinosaurs before.
"adam and eve" were indeed carnivorous.. i don't mean obvious stuff like sharp teeth, i mean things like little chomped up.

Holy crap! I didn't realize they were still arguing this as recently as 1994!
I thought this was a 1950s-era dogma that nobody really believed anymore except for the old-guard fundamentalists like my grandparents.
This is some funny (yet tragic) stuff.
