What are the worst pictures in My Book of Bible Stories?
by cedars ina few comments from muddy waters and mummatron on another thread peaked my curiosity and led me to revisit some of the illustrations in the my book of bible stories.
i don't appear to have my old copy from when i was a child (thankfully), so i checked out the images over on watchtower.org where the entire book can be read online.
the images below are taken from what is displayed on that website, although it wouldn't surprise me if there are equally awful images that haven't been used.. so which of the images below are the most grotesque and inappropriate for children?

The only one that really bothered me was Abraham sacrificing Isaac. When studying with my dad I asked what he'd do if Jehovah asked him to kill me. He said it'd be terribly difficult, but he'd have to do it. I've had nightmares for decades about him slitting my throat. Thanks WBTS.

Is it fair to label everyone who quotes a scripture as "self-righteous ?
by caliber inself-righteous...one definition....... self-righteousness (also called sanctimoniousness, sententiousness, a holier-than-thou attitude[1]) is a feeling of (usually)smugmoral superiority[2] derived from a sense that one's beliefs, actions, or affiliations are of greater virtue than those of the average person.. the term "self-righteous" is often considered derogatory (see, for example, journalist and essayist james fallows' description of self-righteousness[3] in regards to nobel peace prize winners) particularly because self-righteous individuals are often thought to exhibit hypocrisy due to the belief that humans are imperfect and can therefore never be infallible, an idea similar to that of the freudian defense mechanism of reaction formation.
the connection between self-righteousness and hypocrisy predates freud's views, however, as evidenced by the 1899 book good mrs. hypocrite: a study in self-righteousness, by the pseudonymous author "rita.".
or criticism can be form of self-boasting (self-righteousness ) but does it not all come down to knowing the persons intent ... are all persons.

No, depends on how it's done. If they're quoting scripture as if it was fact, then I'd call them delusional, and if they're doing it to put you down, then the self-rightous label would also fit. But no problem with quoting it as literature.

60 yr. old needs chaperon????
by red21 inso, a female relative of mine who is 60 but inactive in the truth had their mate dying in the hospital.
the older sister + husband and old brother (of dying man) (active witnesses) come to visit and stay at their home.
the old sister is staying at the hospital around the clock for the duration of the visit but tells her sister-in-law that she must have a chaperon at the house if she is going to be there with her husband and her dying husbands older brother?

Obviously if you left those two horn-dogs alone for 5 minutes they'd be shagging the heck out of each other.
My mother-in-law faced this after her first husband died, and she was dating again. Her and her boyfriend were nearly 60 but needed to be chaperoned. Crazy thing was even after being married for years, they never "did it". The dude had no interest (or ability). Mom-in-law wished she had known this before marrying the guy and facing this big let-down. A little practice run would have saved her a lot of frustration.

Rookie mistake. Just wrap it up again and then unwrap it on the 25th and act surprised. I don't think you were "scolded", more of an FYI.
I think we're going to let the kids pick one present to open on the 24th so that they don't explode. Or maybe just get to empty their stockings on the 24th. Not sure yet. It's mostly up to them how they want to do it. But Santa is definitely bringing a couple things on xmas eve.

I have nightmares sometimes that my wife is making me go to a district convention for some unknown reason. Sitting in my chair as it's starting, and wigging out when the cult-talk starts. I know I can't do 3 days, but I don't want to cause a fight. It must suck for people who are actually in this situation.

How Would You Answer...?
by EmptyInside ini'm wondering what to reply to someone who said the main message of the "truth" is the same.
that jehovah is god and he sent his only-begotten son to die for us,so that,we could have everlasting life on earth.. the rest of the changes don't really matter to them.
that witnesses are the only religion to teach this and the only ones preaching it.

I keep forgetting this stupid forum doesn't work with IE which is my only option on my phone where I do most of my reading. Come on now! IE! Don't they expect this software to catch on?! Anyway, rant over.
It seems that the reasoning goes like this:
* Our group is the only one that currently believes specificly what we currently believe.
* Therefore we must be rightThey just can't see that ANY group could make these same claims with just as much to back them up. It's crazy.
