take a look at most religions: if you change a doctrine here or there, it usually makes little difference.. you can be a catholic and take birth control.
you can believe in evolution and still be active in most.
protestant churches.. but what about the "truth"?
Your posting reminds me of a comment I heard some lady say once, "You should never talk bad about your parents!" IMO....there are a lot of terrible people out there. How can a person deny how their mother or father are if they sit in a slammer as criminals for instance? All these Jdubs are in a sense in the same position. They too see the WTBTS as a parent and are afraid to admit publically that their parent (WTBTS) is bad, wrong, wicked etc. etc.

It was something I really wanted to do. It was a very emotional moment for me. I cried out of happiness and because none of my family were even at that assembly. They were all still studying, same length of time as me, but I put in more effort. It was only maybe 3 mos. later, that they all got baptized but did so locally only. Too ashamed to be seen at an assembly. So much for making a public declaration. Oh well. They were pressured. They hadn't even gone out in the FS before their baptism. I wasn't pressured at all.

Thanks for opening my eyes too to what's been going on since I left back in 1999. Not only was I ignorant to so much because they hid the facts, but since then, there has been so much more going on and after so many years of putting up with so much, many have just had enough. FINALLY!

well, here's the latest.
i'm almost inactive with regard to the ministry - i simply don't go out.
if i do the "guest star" thing, i never talk to anyone.
My opinion, if it's meant to be, it will happen. I got Df without even doing any wrong and it was my key to get through the exit door and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. They were all ignoring me as well, waaaaaaay before I got out, so when I was Df, it was easy to accept because I felt that way anyway.

i just cant understand why the watchtower still holds to this convention from 1933, that millions now living will never die.my nan was born in 1925 and shes in her late 80s.so who was the watchtower refering to when they said that they would never die.it coudnt have been people who were middle aged back then or older.and i cant believe they were just talking to people between the ages of 7-20 or so either that wouldnt fit the " millions " hype.yet its still refered to today in meetings and in the revelation book as a very important event.
Didn't they mean, they'd be spared the "eternal death"? I think we ALL survive when we die, no hell fire at all, because we are ALL sinners and God is a loving God who will NOT destroy his creations.

sometimes when someone new comes on the board and makes a big splash, you wonder if it's all for real.. rollerdave arrived on this board in the last couple months and has lit it up with his insight and wit, including recent experiences dealing with his old family and congregation.. after i pm'd dave here i learned he was indeed the same dave i knew back in a north-side minneapolis kingdom hall oh so many years ago.
we talked on the phone last weekend and actually got together for the first time last night.
as i expected he is just as genuine and witty and fun as he shows on this discussion board.
Cool! We just never know when someone we knew from our past will suddenly come back into our lives. *anxiouslywaiting*

Thanks for sharing your goal with us. I'm sorry to hear that you need AA, but I am really happy that they are there for you. The life of an alcoholic, is a sad story. I know this because I was with an alcoholic for 4 months, hoping I could help him, but nope....like you, they have to want to help themselves. You go for it, and I wish you all the best!
