Not having grown up a JW or ever practicing, I would have to say shunning, disfellowshipping, or any aspect of them separating families. Growing up in a tight knit family, that is veeeerrryyy hard for me to comprehend.

Hello and Welcome!
Pull up a chair, stay a while, there is much family love here. By that I mean that some will be brutal in their honesty but are all well intentioned.
I am not or never have been a witness, but am married to an inactive witness. You'll see some of that situation here also. Those affected trying to understand and cope.
Hope these folks can at least be a caring shoulder.

Update on Marrying a Non-Witness
by why??? inhi everyone back in may i wrote about marrying my b/f whose not a witness...the advice you all gave was very helpful...however my b/f has decided that it would be better for us to be friends for a while while i sort out what i want and he needs to do the same...i agreed with him..but its been very hard.... he says that my parents are influencing me so much, which is true.
i want to move out and live on my own for a while after i graduate next june....so thats my plan for now.....i have a job and my school schedule all planned out..i just need to save money....i still have feelings for him but i hurt him in the past with my indecisiveness and he doesnt want to go through that again and i dont blame him...i need the space to figure myself out some more...but we still talk all the time....today he said that he just wants me to get myself together and that he'll wait for me....while he gets himself together with school and stuff, which is what i want.....so thats how it is for now...no marriage in the next year or so....i will be doing what you all said finishing school, meeting new ppl, trying to have fun(with the limited freedom my parents give me), move out and live on my own first ....then see where we stand.......
thats all for now....bye

Why???
I highly recommend trying it on your own first. You will have a better understanding of independence, responsibility, money saving, all in all life's issues. You will appreciate things very differently if you go from your father's house to your husbands. Remember that nothing in life is a guarantee, you need these life lessons just in case something were to happen to you spouse or to the relationship. It is very hard to go back home if either where to happen.
My very very young sister in law just married shy of 19 (jw) and is now wondering what happened.
Welcome !!

Were you ever afraid of demons?
by Regretful_J inhello everyone, my story is a unique one i suppose but here it goes.,, ever since i was a little boy whenever i would voice my objections about this religion my parents would tell me im making satan happy and that i'm inviting demons into are house by saying and thinking things like this.
my parents are such religious fanatics that it seems like nothing i do can ever be good enough for them.
to this day they always claim that they come down hard on me like this because "they're trying to protect me".

My JW friend is a massage therapist. She truly believes that one of her clients is a demon! She says that when she massages her she gets these really bad vibes, and that she just doesn't feel right after. That she actually feels physically ill. (ugh )
She says that after, she goes outside and walks on the grass to try to "ground" herself? Does this make any sense to anyone? She is Special!

Rolling eyes
by 4mylove ini've always noticed that when jw's, my inactive hubby included, notice someone is christian, they hate it.
they roll their eyes, snort, or make snide remarks.
i really pissed me off once when my mom in law told my hubby that if she had known why the older ladies wanted to by some of her plants for, she wouldn't have sold them to them.

Education *Awake 1989*
by 4mylove indamn this is sad..... .
nevertheless, is a university degree always worth the huge commitment of time and money it demand?
while statistics indicate that university graduates earn highter salaries and suffer less unemployment than high school graduates, the book planing your college education remins us that these statistics are mere averages.

Damn this is sad....
Nevertheless, is a university degree always worth the huge commitment of time and money it demand? While statistics indicate that university graduates earn highter salaries and suffer less unemployment than high school graduates, the book Planing Your College Education remins us that these statistics are mere averages. Only a minority of university graduates actually receive sky-high salaires; the rest are paid wages that are far more down to earth. Besides, the high incomes attributed to university graduates may also result from such factors as "unusual abilities, motivation, area opportunities for employment,....special talents"-not simply the amount of their education.
Awake May 8 1989 pp. 13-14 What career should i choose?
I just cannot begin to understand being a parent that discourages a child from seeking their strengths. I guess pursuing a medical, law, or engineering degree, anything of any substance is just selfish and just for the money. How many lives do each of those profession save on a daily basis!!!! They can't even save their own families from falling apart.
Whew, that felt good..
