I replied that we were having too much fun together. He said that we still hadn't really made plans, we'd only been married about year and a half. He also mentioned that we were pretty spontaneous and would take off without notice. He said now we could pick up and go anywhere, maybe even Bethel. In my ignorance at that time, I thought he was talking about Bethel AK! I told him he was crazy that I would not live somewhere that cold and dreary. Little did I know, I had apparently just described the actual place he was talking about to a tee!

Hubby and I went hiking this weekend. We were on our way and his parents called. I could tell by the way he was responding that it had to do with something JW. The phone got cut off and I asked him if everything was okay. He said his mother was talking about a circuit overseer or something being in town and that she was excited. At this, as usual, my stomach started turning.
I love this man so much. It hurts to think that it could all be taken away from me. I, of course and as usual, couldn't hold back the tears. Tried to conceal this because little bro in law was also in the truck. We were listening to Harry Potter books for the trip. Wonder how that would make his mom feel. Pretty sure it would be an issue.
Good thing is is that it was a wonderful hike!!! Ouachita Mountains AR. 3.5 days 30 miles. Amazing.

JW's have been around since Adam and Eve???!!!
by tribalgirl ini was wondering if this was being taught in the congregations.
my sister who is still a jw told me this the other day when i said that the wtbts has only been around for a short time, relatively speaking.. my mother, who hasn't been to a meeting in years, agrees with her.
what is being taught now with regards to this, does anyone know?

Wow, my friend said that they have been around all along also. This came up in an argument we were having about legitimacy tied to seniority.
My inactive hubby said, also during an argument, that it is believed that the apostles were original JW's. Of course this made me gag...
At least that is what a hardcore jw and inactive jw believe.
Sorry

Alcohol and JW's
by sweet pea init seems like alcohol is a very grey area when it comes to jw's.
when i was a jw i knew many witnesses, particularly brothers, who seriously liked their drink and it appeared that when it came to elders and ministerial servants, the organisation seemed to turn a blind eye to alcohol abuse if those brothers were being faithful and especially if they were looked up to and liked in the congregation.
it reminds me of the mormons and the fact that utah is the prozac capital of the world - when something is not perceived as quite as bad a sin as another (even though all sins are equally bad in the bible/book or mormon), it becomes the one form of escape for people who have nowhere else to turn.

We Should Give Newbies the Benefit of the Doubt
by flipper inconsidering what has gone on at this board the last couple months, i thought this would be good to discuss !
it's true that some here are somewhat jaded and untrusting of others because of the deception pulled by " trevor" and the whole " trevorgate " thing.
that being said and acknowledged however , think about what makes us not trust others as ex-witnesses.

Thanks for that flipper. I'm sorry to say that after the whole trevorgate thing, things changed for newbies. I completely understand trust issues from those who have been so abused for so long. But some of us, not even having been witnesses have also been hurt. I noticed after trevors' situation, no one would really respond to newbies posts. I still love being here and do feel welcomed. Thanks for looking out.

shunned
by lovelylissa ini got disfelowshiped when i divorced my husband and altho we both went on to have relationships with other people he didn't get disfelowshiped as he wasn't going to meetings.
we have since then got back together and i find it so frustrating that i still get treated like a leper being shunned by his family and all the other witnesses but he still gets invited to dinner and works with them.
i don't want to be best buddys with any of them i just hate it when they cross the road to avoid me .
