I have waaay too much crap in the pockets today. I've got keys, change, a pen, a flash light, a tire gauge, a zippo, a comb, a knife, chap stick, and my wallet.

Was I alone in my thinking about the year 1994?
by JimmyPage inat one time the society taught that the generation of 1914 would see the end of this world.
since the society always used the bible to explain itself i did the same.
i thought, well the bible says our years are 70 or 80, if we have special mightiness.

JimmyPage, that is what was always discussed at our meetings and "biblical" math discussions. "Millions Now Living Will Never Die", etc. etc. Well, if people were born in 1914, the oldest they could have been according to the biblical math is 80, then 1994 was the latest "this system of things" could have existed. If you really get into things, the even older understood definition of "this generation" were people who were alive and could understand the events of 1914 as they happened, then that generation would have reached 80 years old some time in the 1970s. When the society changed the rules on us in 1995, that's when my bullshit meter pegged and I totally tuned out on everything the society had to say. They make predictions, teach them as God's truth, disfellowship people if they fail to accept it, then when the crap doesn't happen, they change the rules and everybody is supposed to overlook the fact that what they were told to believe is no longer true. THE GENERATION OF 1914 IS DEAD! THE WBTS IS FULL OF SHIT! The end.

Mrs. Smith, I had to do the same thing back in February. The father of a friend of mine passed away in February. My friend, like me, is no longer a JW, but his entire family is. Despite not ever wanting to set foot in a Kingdom Hall again, I went to the funeral just to support my friend. My brother and I and our wives went with us. We were the only people at the funeral who talked with my friend. If it weren't for us, he would have been totally alone. The speaker even used the opportunity to harrass my friend about comming back to "the truth". It was sickening. But, just do it for your friend. You don't have to answer to anyone there. Stay as long as your friend wants you to stay.

Did you see any sad living conditions in Field Service...?
by Casper inim sure all of us at one time or another witnessed homes that broke our heartshere are a few of mine.
some of the homes i had been invited into out in service really left an impression on me.
call it naive or whatever, it was a real eye opener in some cases.. one in particular that i remember was a poor family with 8 little girls, stair step in age, the oldest no more than 9. this was an rv of the sister i was with.... very nice people, but the living conditions were appalling.

I saw quite a bit of poverty in the areas I worked out in field service, particularly among the elderly. But, you know what? I worked in some pretty affluent areas as well and a lot of those people lived like absolute animals. There was no excuse for that. They just were lazy and filthy. I always felt bad for the old people. Sometimes, rather than talking their ears off about the Watchtower magazine, I'd go inside and help them out with things around the house for a while. As far as anybody knew, I was on a return visit with someone. I made up my mind from a young age that I didn't want to end up old and poor like that, just waiting to die. When I'm old I want to be taken care of.

Do you enjoy listening to music from another generation?
by JH insome people only like recent music, maybe because they don't want to identify themselves to an older generation.. often, i'll listen and download music that played when i was a kid, and really enjoy it..

There's no expiration date on good music. I'll listen to anything, if it's good. I don't care when it was made. I've had so many friends that used to go through my records and CDs and making fun of my collection because it had so much "old" stuff in there. Then, I'd turn the tables on them and point out to them how many "new" songs were just rip-offs of old songs. If the "new" artists are listening to the old stuff to get "new" material, what's wrong with going straight to the source and hearing it yourself? I don't mind listening to old stuff if it sounds good and I don't mind saying that the latest "flavor of the week" artist sucks if they do indeed suck.

My ex left on pretty bad terms when she left, but left me with the baby! LOL Anyway, for a long time after she left, I suspected someone of coming in the house. I thought maybe it was the landlord or something. I'd come home, and something would be out of place, etc., etc. Well, I had my company vehicle being serviced one day and I had the dealership drop me off at the house. I guess she thought I wasn't home. I was in the kitchen washing some dishes and I heard the front door open. It was her and her boyfriend! I was so pissed! Nobody has ever seen a 300 pound man move so fast! I chased them out of the house, hurdled over the railing of the front porch and hit the ground running after them. I called the landlord and immediately had the locks changed. Who knows how often they were comming in the house, doing God-knows-what. Needless to say, I stripped the bed and sprayed it with about a gallon of Lysol! Always, always, ALWAYS change the locks, the alarm codes, your phone number, etc., etc. Change all of your PIN numbers on any of your ATM cards, credit cards and online accounts. I'd even go as far as to have a locking mailbox installed if you don't already have one.

Did anyone ever "Really" stumble you ?
by Casper inthis is one of the things i felt could get really petty in the congregation i attended, sometimes over the top, in my opinion.. one time a group of us sisters went on a shopping trip.
the driver was knocking herself out trying to find some "decent" music on the radio.
finally gave up and put a john mellencamp tape in.

I wasn't really "stumbled", because I always knew what was inherently good or bad and I've always behaved accordingly. But, I definitely lost faith in the organization and its "shepherds" at a relatively young age. I saw elders and other "respected" members of the congregation engage in dishonest and sometimes illegal business practices. I've seen some of those same people behave unethically and cheat business acquaintences out of money or property. I've seen some who beat their wives, abuse alcohol and drugs, watch pornography and just about anything else you can think of get up on the platform and sternly instruct me not to do the very same things that they do in their own lives. I lost my faith in religion. Just because someone tells you that they are God's messenger or that they have the truth, doesn't mean that God feels the same way about them.

I moved to a quiet rural area 10 years ago to get away from the crime in Atlanta. Well, guess what? When all of the people that the criminals rob leave a city, apparently the criminals have to follow their prey. It used to be that the biggest "crimes" around here were committed by a couple of rednecks beating the crap out of each other at the local beer joint on a Friday night. Some call that crime; I call that quality entertainment. Crime is increasing in my once small, quiet town. The house I was renting a few years ago was broken into by some kids. I hate to say it, but sadly most of the crime in my town is being committed by our illustrious immigrant population. Hey! Mexican dudes! If you're gonna rob me at gunpoint, can you at least learn how to do it in English?? We also have the added benefit of being the new home of a couple of New Orleans gangs displaced by Hurricane Katrina. I saw one of these suspected gang members getting arrested for breaking into cars at the local Wal-Mart on Monday. 10 years ago, you could've left your door unlocked in my town. Now, even locks don't help. If the door's locked, they'll kick it in! I guess no matter where you are, if there are more than one person in a given location, there's gonna be crime. My advice? Learn how to kick ass and carry a gun. It works for me.

I moved about 50 miles away when I left home. It was great. Nobody's bothered me yet. When JWs come to my door, I usually don't answer. I let them stand there and wait.
