Journey on, I think the mind-altering properties of the ink is nothing when compared with the mind-altering properties of the actual words printed with the ink! In fact, I think I'd rather get high off the ink! Huffing party at my house! Woo Hoo! LOL

Your JW Baptism
by LouBelle ini was 16 years old when i got baptised - 1992 - it was at one of the two day assemblies.
only a few of us got baptised.
i pulled out the pictures - there i stood proudly with a friend of mine in our cosies (shirts over) towels wrapped around us.

I was baptized April 2, 1994. I was 17, almost 18. Two of my friends were baptized at the same time. None of us are JWs today. I have very little memory of the occasion. In fact, when I read this thread, I had to look up the date, because I didn't remember. The only thing I remember was that I wished I were someplace else. I was told over and over again that the day I was baptized was one of the most important days of my life. In retrospect, the last time I went to the dentist holds more significance for me than the day I was baptized. If I could go back as 33 year old me and talk to 17 year old me, I would have told 17 year old me to skip the assembly that day and find some girl and lose my virginity instead of going to the assembly and lose my free will. Oh well. I'm glad it's all over.

Real Good News
by superman inthis must be a sign of what will lie ahead for the j-dubs (at least in the united states).
this last weekend at the special day circuit assembly i went to, not a single person got baptized (zero, zip, nada) and the funny part was that they still had to give the baptism talk because it was already in the program schedule.
hopefully people are starting to catch on and we'll have a few more "zero baptism" assemblies.

I'm surprized that they didn't call in a few people from distant congregations to be "baptized" just to save face.

NewYork44M, I remember those bags. I was only 2 when that assembly took place, but my dad had plenty of those bags. He still has a few stashed in between his Watchtower bound volumes.
My father and I usually worked in the kitchen at the assembly hall in Monroe, NY. It was sheer torture, because we had to get there very early in the morning, and the drive from our house was about 2 hours, so you can imagine what time I got dragged out of bed. I still can remember the smell of the powdered mashed potatos (acutally, they were canned potatos) and powdered eggs. I also remember the Stanley Theater and the ice cream they served. I never, ever payed attention to a single talk at the Stanley, because I was always too busy looking at the building itself.
I also remember helping my father behind the literature counter and the smell of the books and magazines fresh off the truck from Brooklyn. For some reason the WBTS literature has a unique smell. I'm not sure why the books smell the way they do, but they do.

I posted a question on yahoo answers, in regards to the book study arrangem
by PaNiCAtTaCk ini posted the question last night, to try to get some jw's take on the matter.
of course most of them are really showing how brainwashed they are, by quoting the letter almost word for word, gas prices rising etc.. i personally feel that its wonderful, as my parents are getting older and they've been doing 3 meetings a week since the early 1960's.
the way i posted the question, i kind of insinuated that i was a jw struggling with the loss of the meeting.

I think a lot of JWs now are complying with the Society's crap not because they are totally brainwashed or stupid. I think a lot of them are still hanging on because to leave would mean having to admit that they were wrong for so many years. I'm beginning to think that my dad is in that boat. When you've invested so many years of your life in something, it's hard to walk away and admit it was all for nothing. The society is really pushing it with they type of people I've just described. Sooner or later, they are all going to say to themselves "enough's enough!" and they'll all leave in droves.

Why does an atheist have to disprove anything?
by digderidoo ini have noticed alot of debate in posts lately between an atheist argument and a christian one.
it seems to me that the atheist is asked to disprove god's existence.
some times these debates have started to get personal with one side attacking the other with insults and i do not want to start another argument like these.. but i dont get it?

I think ultimately the person who needs to prove something isn't the believer or the nonbeliever; it's God. When he can prove his existence, then there will be no athiests. And, since God is purportedly a supreme being who is all-powerful, that shouldn't be a hard thing for him to do. Until that happens, I think the atheists are winning the argument by default.

Does this happen to you?
by dogisgod inlets say you are just happily reading a book or newspaper and on the next page the word "jehovah" will jump out at you (and i mean that it's really there but it just kinda magnifies itself).
samething with kingdumb halls.
you'll be in a foreign community and drive by one and it's like "oh my god, a kingdumb hall!!

Whenever I see a Kingdumb Hell I cringe. I want to drive by as fast as possible so none of the JW germs rub off on me.

You men what is this lady trying to prove? (flufff)
by MsMcDucket ini got a friend invite; and as usual, i clicked on the person's nick to see what their page looks like.
from the looks of it, she doesn't spend to much time on it.
no videos, no friends, etc... but there's a picture/video of a black female in a bikini!

My Parents are here
by mrsjones5 inand last night i found out that the movie "the 40 year old virgin" is a no-no.
we were watching dancing with the stars and def leppard came on as the musical guest and played "pour some sugar on me" (one of my personal favs), my mother asked if i thought my pastor would approve and i shot back what would he have to with it.
she said well because of the words in the song.

My dad and his wife came up for a visit last this month. I try to be respectful to him, but my brother goes out of his way to shock and awe them. He put a copy of Crisis Of Conscience on the coffee table for them to read while they were at his house. Hilarious.

I think the fact that the mother doesn't want the kid immunized should be his first sign that she's unfit. I've already told him that he should try to get custody because things aren't going to get any better. Besides, I think that raising the kid as a JW is a form of child abuse in and of itself. I was raised a JW and I would never put my daughter through that crap.
