last night, while sitting outside - and helping hand out candy to all of the 'treeters who came up, my new mother-in-law was discussing how her sister and husband were going to their church for the fall harvest festival.. i said... "what's that?".
i asked, "do they wear costumes?".
but not ghosts or monsters or other scary ones.".
Yeah, we have a lot of TurboBaptists around here that think Haloween is evil, so what do they do? They have pumpkins and candy at the church and everybody dresses up and gets candy, except it's called a Fall Festival.
Kinda like having a douglas fir in your living room on December 25th and it has lights and stuff on it and there are boxes with ribbons underneath, but you just call it Tuesday.
A terd, if called by any other name, would smell just as sweet. You can't polish a terd.

just stating a fact, i have been raising 3 boys for about 5 years, x left , dosent help, signed her rights away, sometimes i get really tired, of the non stop cycle of dishes, laundry, school pickups, football, cleaning, homework, i really am mr mom!.
i love that i have them and would never give that up, we are all so close, we are all we have, especially since the fade, is this how alot of single moms feel?.
Big D, I was a single father for 4 years. My daughter was an infant when "The Greatest Mom in The World" left. She doesn't pay any support and never has. She started seeing my daughter again after she was 3. It's a hard job, but it can be done. The thing that I learned was to teach her everything I could as fast as I could. My daughter is now 8 and is almost completely self-sufficient. She likes to help out around the house and she does! The more you can teach the kids to do for themselves (with your supervision, of course) the easier it will be on you. Another thing you can do is to prepare meals in advance. I used to (and still do) prepare the meals for the week on Sunday. I would get stuff pre-prepared and ready to go so I didn't have to do so much when I picked my daughter up from daycare. That way all I had to do was feed her and wash the dishes. I usually did laundry while she was asleep. But, you constantly have to be on your toes to get everything done and at the same time be an attentive parent. I still don't sit down at night until after 10 pm. It does get really lonely being a single parent. When I ended up on my own with an infant daughter, most of my friends and family disappeared. I went a period of 2 years where no one came to my house. I'm not exaggerating. No one. Just the mail man. It takes all of your mental ability to endure the grueling physical requirements of holding down a job (or two), then being a full time parent and taking care of the home. Add to that the sometimes crippling lonliness and lack of sex (!), and it really sucks. I never used a vacation day for vacation, either. I saved up all my sick and vacation days to use when she was sick and couldn't go to school or daycare. I usually went to work sick as a dog so I wouldn't run out of sick days.
Just keep on keepin' on, dude. It will get better. And the kids will love you for it. Just do the best you can. You can't go wrong by loving your kids and trying to take care of them.

My little brother doesn't post here, but I bet he'd like to come, too. When would be a good date for people? I'm usually off from work the whole week of Christmas. I think weekends are best, though.

To this day I still wonder why the JW youths don't go out in field service on Haloween night. It's the one night of the year you can pretty much count on everybody answering the door.

my wife spends hours getting ready, we blow off the dub school for the night, it's dark and our daughter is in her princess dress,..... .
Here in Georgia, we have a lot of crazy baptists who don't beleive in trick or treat because "Haloween is Evil" but yet they have a "Fall Festival" at their respective churches on Haloween where kids dress up in costumes and get candy and there are pumpkins. It's kind of like celebrating Chrismas, except with an oak tree in the living room.
Anyway..... my daughter, wife, niece and sister in law are out with trick or treating and some crazy baptist-type-looney tune is out in the street accosting the kids telling them they're evil!
That lady was lucky that I was back at our house handing out candy and not out with the kids. There's no telling what might have happened - to her! Damn, I had to spend my whole childhood under the oppressive thumb of the JWs, I'll be damned if some "Bah Humbug" type old crone is going to spoil Haloween for my kid! Harumph!

seriously need to vent.. my daughter had a boyfriend who broke up with her today because her parents don't want him seeing a half-black girl.
he said his parents screamed at him all night.
And Lucy was purportedly a communist as well! Wow. Shouldn't have let that Cuban-loving Communist have a TV show! hee hee. Nah, I Love Lucy was great. Communists still suck, though.

How can a JW NOT be depressed? Geezus! I was depressed as hell and thought about slitting my wrists in the middle of a district convention because I didn't know how to sit through three days of that crap.

Every damned idiot who I DON'T want to communicate with has several ways of contacting me. I can get emailed, faxed, my home phone, work phone, cell phone, even my mail box.... they can even knock on my door and talk to me. But yet the all powerfull and all knowing God can't communicate with anyone. We can talk to him, but he can't talk to us. That's why when people want to get into a religious argument with me, I tell them that arguing over religion is kind of like arguing about which one of us has the best imaginary friend. It just doesn't make sense. I made a deal with God a long time ago. I asked him if it was ok if I didn't go to the Kingdom Hall anymore and if it was ok with him that he should give me absolutely no sign. He didn't give me a sign, so we're cool. If God wants me, he knows where to find me.
