  Saw an Elder @ the Van Halen concert last night!

  sunday, the giant center hershey pa. .

  before the show, i of course ducked into the mens room so that i wouldnt have to during the show.

  (which was awesome by the way) anyway, as i am standing in line waiting my turn, whom do i see turn to leave?

  WingCommander, my wife and I saw Van Halen almost 2 weeks ago! I thought I saw a few witnesses I used to know. I wonder if Van Halen is on the approved list of entertainment options at the local Kingdom Hall now? LOL

  I wasn't allowed to see Van Halen (or anybody else for that matter) when I was a JW kid, so two Sundays ago was my first time seeing Van Halen. Maybe the JWs I saw there were in the same situation as I am? Maybe they left the org? I don't know; I didn't ask them.

  If I were God, I'd like Van Halen. He's awesome. He should write kingdom melodies.

  How do the elders know if you are truly repentent?

  the reason why i ask is because whenever u are df and u are trying to get reinstated they are always tellling u that u have to produce fruits befitting repentenace like attending the meetings,etc.

  they always make it seem that since they are gods spirit-directed org.

  that he will know whether or not if a person is repentent.

  Jetery, I think that there is no hard and fast way they can determine that. My father was an elder and he revealed to me that even though there were people he thought were repentant (and in some cases, not deserving of being disfellowshipped in the first place), the elders were often harsh and denied requests for reinstatement. My father stepped down from his position as elder primarily because he couldn't deal with the elders who were so hard-hearted and seemed to be on a personal power trip when it came to deciding the fate of other witnesses. My father believed that elders were there to help the congregation, but especially the weak ones, because they required help the most. He would talk to people, help people if he could. Not so with the other elders. They were only interested in issuing warnings, doling out punishment and testing the limits of their authority. My father didn't tell me about a lot of that stuff until about 15 years after he stepped down. I was shocked to hear some of the things that went on and how the elders abused their power. My father is still a witness, and even though he has been asked to be an elder again in his congregation where there is a shortage of elders, he will not accept. To me, that says a lot. I have no trust in the body of elders as a whole and apparently, neither does he!

  What should I do with all of these books?

  while growing up, my dad maintained a rather huge wts library.

  i liked the idea of being able to pick out one of those old books from the1940s or earlier and read what they were saying back then.

  well for the first time, in september of 2006 at the age of 40, i finally became a home-owner.

  I have quite a few of the older publications which I save just because one day I might need them to research something. When we moved into our new house, I boxed them all up and wrote on the boxes "Put in garage. DO NOT bring in house." The boxes are in the attic and they haven't been opened. Hell, I may die before those boxes are ever opened! But, I still have them. Call me a pack rat if you want to. I think I may eventually throw them away, or give them to the good will or, even better, drop them by the front door of the nearest kingdumb hell.

  I used to be a frequent flyer because of my job, but now I've changed jobs and I try to avoid planes at all costs. Modern air travel is the most tortuous thing imagineable. I think instead of sending criminals to prison, they should have to endure years of non-stop airtravel across the country or across the world. It's been a couple of years since I've flown, but my last few flights were so bad, I could have walked home quicker than the plane. I will only fly as a last resort.

  so far, i like needful things, secret window/hidden garden, and langoliers best.. guy at the bookstore said the stand was the best.. i just bought the shining and pet cemetary (book's in the other room.

  can't spell).

  White Dove, I read The Stand in two days. I think it's over 1,000 pages. I can't remember now, but I couldn't put it down. All of his books are good, even the ones he's written under psuedonyms. I like the Dark Tower series, too. I've been reading his books probably since I was 10. He's awesome.

  the president from trinidad & tobago attends the memorial.... the president of the nation (george maxwell richards) attends the memorial at a local kingdom hall in trinidad & tobago .

  im trying to organize a fun day out for my husband and i. i know he would like a hot air ballon trip but im scared of heights so that out.

  A fun day out for me.... A day where I don't have to do a damn thing! Usually a "day out" means I have to drive 8 million miles, wait in lines with jerks, do crap I don't want to do, stare at crap I don't want to see, then drive home again while my wife takes a nap in the passenger seat. A perfect day out would involve great big titties and beer and possibly food. :)

  Why I post about atheism

  oftentimes the accusation is made that there is some sort of conspiracy on jwd amongst the atheists to convert, humiliate, spit on, or otherwise degrade the believers.

  it's been suggested that their tone is condescending and arrogant.. it's hinted at that they're angry and bitter about their own lives and want to take it out on god and his humble servants.. others think it's all just an excuse to lead what they judge to be a morally depraved life.. regardless of what we believe about god's existence or lack thereof, most rational adults understand that when we attempt to judge the motives of others we can miss by a mile.. so here's the reason i post about the topic of atheism.... i was born as one of jehovah's witnesses, fourth generation.

  i was being indoctrinated with jehovah while i was still in the womb.

  If it is important to God whether or not I believe in Him, then I should think that it would be pretty important in God's "List Of Things To Do" that he would constantly communicate with me to at least remind me of his existence. So far, I haven't heard anything from him. Not even a post card. Until I hear something, I'm an atheist.

  Mr. Flipper & Son Hear, See, and Get Footprints of Bigfoot on Pack Trip

  so, the long awaited trip began for my son and i to return to the same place he heard a bigfoot a year ago in the forests of northern california.

  the trip started out unfortunately for us to be a 7 mile hike instead of a 2 to 3 mile hike in to our base camp , as huge snow drifts covered the road , making it even inaccessible for 4 wheel drive, so , with packs on backs we hiked over 50 ft long snow drifts on places on the trail.

  even snow was covering one creek near the lake we were destined for .

  The company I work for manufactures certain types of detection equipment. We had some guy from Oregon call in about a year ago and he told me that he was camping in the woods when he caught a "big foot-like" creature rummaging through the back of his pickup truck. He said that he didn't care if anybody thought he was nuts, he just wanted to purchase equipment to go back and capture video of the creature. Due to certain restrictions, I couldn't sell him the equipment, but his story was interesting anyway. I wonder if he ever went back to try and get some video of it??

  Caedes, there is a problem with anti-gun laws. The problem is that when law-abiding citizens are banned from having guns - or any other weapon for that matter - then by default only criminals have weapons. This makes the law-abiding citizens targets. When law-abiding citizens are in posession of weapons, there is no additional threat. There is no additional criminal intent. The already law-abiding citizens just happen to have a weapon in his or her posession. Caedes, because you live in the UK, I assume you don't own a gun. But if you did, would you automatically go out in the street and start shooting people or robbing convenience stores? No, you wouldn't, and neither do any of the thousands of lawfully armed United States citizens who carry a gun. In fact, crime statistics in the US support the claim that crime of all types, but particularly armed robbery, are reduced when gun laws are more liberal. So, it is safer for everyone, including those who chose not to carry a weapon.

  In a perfect world, we wouldn't need guns, but since there are people who have them that shouldn't, it makes it a necessity for the rest of us to have access to them.
