Are Parents Who Shun Their Children At Risk?

who looks after the welfare of ageing witness parents who have disfellowshipped children?

are these df'd children (actually, some of these df'd children are in their 60's) meant to ignore being ignored and then care physically for their non speaking parents?

also, can df'ing your own children lead to witness parents suffering illness or even death as a result?.

As many of you know, my parents are in their 80's and are card carrying JW's. They do not contact me and have not for years. If I contact them, they scream and yell and slam doors at me and even blame me for their illnesses. Back in 1995 I wrote them a letter and told them if they wanted any further contact with me the burden of initiation of contact would be on them from now on. I have never heard from them since.

None of the old tricks work on me anymore. I am absolutely not willing to play any of the JW games at all. If Witnesses suffer due to their own behavior, they suffer with willful self righteous piety.

It is incredibly difficult to rescue a person who is happily deluded and willfully ignorant.

I let my parents know by letter if they needed anything like food, clothing, medical attention, or shelter, they needed to ask me. Then I moved on to live my life. They live in a large, wealthy, JW community and most of my relatives, including my brother, are JW's. They brag about caring for their own. I am sure they will do that before they call me.

Shunning JW parents are unlovable (by me) and unhelpable ( by me). If they are uncomfortable, they certainly have earned that. They have divorced me and I have accepted that.

Are we wrong to attack the Elders?

i see a number of board members alluding to the elders as antagonists.

this is amoral.

there is an inference that these ones ( elders ) can think for themselves, they cannot.

There are 95,000 congregations worldwide, each with 3 to 5 elders appointed by Corporation decision. The elders dispense with 40,000 to 60,000 men, women, and children every year.

Just for context, there were over six thousand SS- troops working at Auschwitz alone.

How are the elders different by nature from the Nazi SS troops? Were the SS troops simply pawns, not to be blamed? If so, why? If not, why?

The Watch Tower Corporation is a multi billion dollar complex of Corporations facing a multitude of claims and suits. It seems to me it will be very difficult for them to issue an apology without admitting responsibility. I can see their legal department advising against any statement of that nature.

They are in a defensive, reactive mode and they will soon need to start sacrificing individual elders who have not followed their guidelines exactly to cut their losses. They will most likely sacrifice some elders who have followed directions as well. They seem good about making sacrifices.

All the public statements made by Brown will haunt them someday too. They will need to dispense with him and remove the statements made by him from credibility by claiming he made those statements on his own without approval from headquarters. He will be replaced when the convenient time arrives.

My best to you all. I hope you are finding some closure and peace. I am lucky, I was only physically and verbally abused by them.

It was worth visibly and permanently fracturing my relationships with practicing relatives to get away from them. They are my enemies for now and forever.

Increase in Publishers for Canada

just heard today from my parents that a member of the canadian bethel said that there is a 1% increase in publishers from last year.

they made such a big deal of it but when you consider that this increase is mostly from jdub's that have been raised in it and are now starting to publish it is not such a big deal.

i was also told that they mentioned about the dangers of the internet and also about all the lawsuites that the "apostates" are bringing against the organization.

The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation has been able to increase the number of their unpaid literature distributors list in the face of incredible disconfirmations, like the loss of the 1975 end time expectation, the dispensing with the long held "last generation" timeline, as well as the ending of the blood fraction ban, the loss of the organ transplant viewpoint, the loss of the alternative military service refusal practice, the resignation of the entire Governing Body, the diffusion of the legal Corporations, the passing of the religion to the new Company, and now the very public embarrassment due to the exposure of the internal child protection policies.

Any one of these events could have broken a religious company, but none did. The membership of the Jehovah's Witness literature distribution corporation are behind a virtual firewall. And for the most part, either they like it there, or they are too afraid of shunning, or of Armageddon, or of their parent, or of their child, or of their spouse to leave.

Even the vocal dissenters like the Liberal Elder are too enmeshed to stand up and step out. It is the perfect imperfect organization.

What's with the new Luxurious K.H's?!

i spent the better part of yesterday afternoon driving from one k.h.

to the next here in the dallas area (hey you current jw's in dallas, those lambs and flyers were from me!

) and was shocked to find the congregation i attended with my family, central/white rock, is now some oriental temple!

The newest Kingdom Hall here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA, has an attached parsonage. The building is brick and the parking lot is paved with a very commercial looking landscaped lot located on a busy street in a residential area. Across the street is the cemetery where my first wife, who suffered and died from virtually untreated leukemia, is buried.

Hi LL, All,

I envy your experience. Every time a JW comes to see me they all have promised to do some research and get back to me. NONE have ever returned. I want them to come back but they don't. I am sure my knowledge and my library intimidates them.

They can sure dish out their crap behind closed doors in their tax free buildings grilling some teenager but they are not nearly so comfortable on my turf staring at their own Corporation produced library. They expose themselves as the shams and cowards they are.

Hope you are doing well. I always enjoy your posts.

Queenie's In The Hospital

i have just been informed that our good friend queenie is in the hospital due to compications caused by diabetes.

she is likely to remain in the hospital for at least a couple of weeks.

i am sure that you will all join me in wishing our queenie a speedy recovery.

Name "Kingdom Hall" not biblical

it's certainly not a biblical name.

would "synagogue" be more biblical?

Years ago I asked my JW father about the Biblical meeting places. I asked why to be considered a Christian is to do as Jesus did and why JW's say Witnesses are to do as Jesus did and go door to door but are not to go Synagog to Synagog like Jesus and Paul both did.

To do as Jesus did would requiring JW's all to be Jews and make yearly pilgrimages to Jerusalem, practice Judaism, and travel with 12 unemployed men.

He just grunted.

I wanted to ask him about the Biblical view of slavery:-) but I decided not to confuse him any more than he already is.

today i visited my jw mother and i asked her a question.

i said, "mom if i was to get married would i be disfellowshiped?

" she said "well since you didn't have scriptual grounds for your divorce i would guess that if you went ahead and got married you would be committing adultery.

Any who do not accept me or those important to me are mince meat in my book. JW's can kiss my butt and they can stick their stupid shunning rules where the sun don't shine.

Shunning somebody cause they get married is horse crap. Just to keep you in fear of reprisal is a crime. What a crock! Sorry!

help, i need info for trial

i need to know where abouts in the jw books does it say that you must obey your elders, and that if you don't listen, you can be disfellowshipped.

at the trial on friday, the head of bethel said that no one in the organization could be disfellowshipped for not following elders commands.

i know its written somewhere, and i have only today and tomorrow to find it.

Before Forming a Judicial Committee

A person who becomes a witness to a serious sin should
encourage the wrongdoer to report the matter to the elders.

He may encourage the wrongdoer to seek help from the
elders and confess; and if the wrongdoer does not do
so, the witness will then inform the elders. (w85 11/85 pp. 19-21)
If there is no response from the accused, two elders
should attempt to discuss the matter with him. If he
denies wrongdoing, so that it is only one brother's
word against another's, leave the matter in Jehovah's
hands. (1 Tim. 5:19, 24, 25)

However, having the witness confront the accused alone
may not be advisable in all cases.
For example:
When the witness is party to wrongdoing, such as
in cases of fornication or adultery.

When the witness is a victim of the wrongdoer as in
cases of incest or rape.

When the witness is extremely timid.

In such cases, or when other extenuating circumstances
exist, two elders may discuss the matter with the ac-
cused, or an elder may accompany the witness to dis-
cuss the matter with the accused.

Of course, if it is determined that a judicial committee
should be formed, the witness may need to testify at
the hearing if the accused denies wrongdoing.

If there is another witness to the same type of sin on the
part of the accused, this would be basis for forming a
judicial committee. (See Unit 5 (b), page 111.)
