Many of us who were raised by Witness parents have anxiety attacks whenever a child screams or cries. I did for years. I don't any more, but I avoided locations with children for years. I witnessed so much abuse in the kingdom halls that I'll never forget it, nor do I want to.
Now, whenever I see a child in danger from an adult, I intervene . . . every single time.

PTSD ... The Rest of the Story
by The Berean inon a previous posting i suggested that i have experienced post-traumatic stress disorders due to my jw upbringing.
feedback has been mixed.
some agree with my assessment, others suggest a misdiagnosis on my part.. please allow me to be more specific concerning actual events that led to my usage of that trerm:.

Here in South Dakota it's not hard to find a therapist that's trained and experienced in post exit syndrome. Virtually all prison inmates as well as Jehovah's Witnesses, Children Of God, The Way, and members who exit other high control groups experience the same symptoms.
We're not unique. Not at all. In fact we're so un-unique, we're predictable. The predictable part and many of the posts on this and other forums highlight it, is: We don't have a religious problem . . . never did. We have marriage problems, we have abuse issues, we have mean and nasty relatives, and we have addictions, but we don't have a religion problem.
One of our common symptoms is denial. We protect the abusers, we try to manipulate, we avoid, and we look beyond the problem. Many of us stay in our cycles, we live the life of a mole . . . we live underground, we tunnel and we eat worms. -

Comparisons between todays Witnesses and those 40 years ago
by truthseeker inloyalty, devotion, hardcore, willing to lose jobs to attend friday of the district convention.
these were the witnesses who came into the truth or were born into it some 30-60 years ago.
they could reason from the scriptures and hold their own at the doors.. today, i see a large mass of witnesses who have been in some 10-15 years who really don't know much about their own faith, could not explain 1914, are unwilling to lose jobs and sleep over attending meetings and assemblies and live double lives.

In the 50's Witnesses told me I'd never go to high school in this old system because Armageddon would come before 1958. The Witnesses were idiots then, and they're idiots now. The only thing different now is that now there are more of them.

June 15 Study WT - Faithful Steward and its GB
by bud2114 infrom what i can tell, there was some discussion out here on this article about a month ago, but at that time few folks had their copy to look at (we just received it last week at our hall).
now that most jw's have their copy, there has been a lot of discussion about it - at least here, that is.
as was mentioned already, this is definitely a follow up to the 5/1/07 qfr "when does the callling of christians to a heavenly hope cease?

You wrote: "Interestingly, the WT writer(s) must think JW's wont verify anything and will go along with whatever is written no matter how asinine the statements are."
"I" think that . . . heck, I know that. One time I asked an elder if Jesus could be microphone boy at the meeting since he didn't were neck ties and he said no. Hahahaha!!! Jehovah's Witnesses I know are absolute idiots. They make Goober and Gomer look like rocket scientists by comparison.
I had one tell me that a ghost was watching me bake bread. I've seen Witnesses stand in line for an hour to buy a book that didn't have one thing in it that made sense then my dad shunned me because I believed he was going to die. -

Atlantis do you have this scan? Watchtower 1961 December 15 pp. 767-768
by middleman init is high time for girls to understand the make-up of their bodies and its functions, especially with regard to sex.then if a girl understandingly takes care of herself while the ovum is at large and is causing sex disturbance and cravings within her, she will be able to act like a true lady of irreproachable morals at all times.
she will avoid the violating of her virginity and the shame and conscience-stricken state due to this; and wisely she will direct her young life so as to end up in the position of a clean, happy wife and mother of legitimate children, journeying to the new world of righteousness, where there will be no sex problems amid a sex-crazy population.-- watchtower 1961 december 15 pp.
this would be nice to add to my list.. blessings.... .

How do you feel when you see groups of Jehovah's Witnesses in the ministry?
by nicolaou inregret, anger, frustration?
how about sadness, sorrow, sympathy, understanding, even compassion!.
it can be quite confusing at times, especially if some of those witnesses were your friends.

How would you respond to a Witness calling worldly people "wicked?"
by BonaFide inthis morning in the field ministry a brother in our car group was talking about wicked people.
i asked him what he thinks of when he says "wicked people.
" (i am working undercover) he said, "those that don't worship jehovah.".

My definition of "wicked" is being in a car full of Witnesses.

Except for allotted grieving time, I haven't seen myself as a victim. I learn much more from my failures than I do from my successes. I can't be defined by my past or by the people who want to control me. The two best living lessons I ever learned was: #1. How to make decisions, and #2. How to deal with failure.
For a former Witness like me the land-mine of life is success. As a group, we can handle adversity much better than success. At least that's my personal observation. It was true for me. One of the worst days of my life was the day I moved into a brand new paid for house when I was 40 years old.
I found that grief follows achieving a success. When I achieve a success, that means I have lost a goal. Often, it's that goal that was motivating me. The best place to go after achieving a long worked for goal is counseling. -

J.Ws Society For The Suppression Of Practically Everything.
by cluless inthe most important thing i learnt from being a jehovers witness was that i never really learnt anything.
i could hold opinions as long as they were not dogmatic against the society:.
i may have thought that 2 and 2 equals 4 but i was only allowed to "suspect" this was correct as the society may have shed new-light on this.. cluless---(but i now no 2 and 2 equals 4..

A sage I sat with once told me that the best thing to know is what I don't know. He said the best deals in life have been the bad deals I got out of.
I found that my brain is like a muscle, the more I use it the stronger it gets. Once I spent two solid months just working numbers. My job was item cost accounting and I did it all without a calculator. Then the vice president of the company I worked for taught me the trick of spotting an error in a spreadsheet after he found an error on mine in about one minute. I wanted to know how he did it.
I found that language is everything. My brain is limited by my vocabulary and by understanding the concepts that the word definitions stand for. When I get stuck, I take my problem to a person I trust who's first language is not English. I found logic problems are quickly solved in the German and Polish languages. If I want a lesson in respect I'd pick a Laos national.
French Canadians have the driest humor of anybody I've ever seen. I just love them.
