Russell was a writer, a publisher, trained by William Miller end time fanatics, he was a full blown numerologist, a sort of pyramidologist, bad at picking wives, bad at picking friends, and worse at picking attorneys.

Great Pyramid is Jehovah's Witness. How so?
by cameo-d ini read it in wiki.. the best i can make out is that these are the reasons:.
"patterned after the capstone of the great pyramid of egypt, symbolic of the christ".
and that russell made (superstitious) predictions based on measurements in the pyramid.. "russell had first published that the date 1874 was derived from a measurement of 3416 pyramid inches[105] which measurement was revised in the 1910 edition to 3,457 inches (87.8 m) to point to 1915.".

It's another cattle call. Loaded up with cliches, assumptions, and hot button words. Tickle the fear hairs, then load em up on truth, right, safety, friends, and more truth and right. These articles are designed to re-set em and keep em working for one week until next Sunday when they can be re-set with another motivation article that stays safely inside one tight little circle.

Do JW's reveal all their doctrines to those they study the Bible with?
by BonaFide inyes, the fairly new bible teach book contains some info in the appendix, but do witnesses include that in the study?.

Witnesses I know play a word game. Asking about doctrine would not be the right question to ask a Watch Tower Witness if I wanted to know about "policy". Doctrine, beliefs, policy, rights, and behaviors are all different things.
Studies should absolutely ask about policies of the type contained in the Pay Attention Elder book and the letters of policy written to the Board Of Elders that have the weight of law on the baptized Witness people.
Studies should absolutely ask about "rights". Rights they give up when they become baptized Witnesses like the right to call their own witnesses in a trial, to have representation in a judicial hearing, and the right to present facts to the Witness people who will be shunning you when the elders try, convict, and punish you without fair hearing and process.
You might get away with disagreeing with the Witnesses about doctrine such as soul sleep, or even question the blood fraction medical treatment belief, but you probably won't get away with violating the policy of not following the dress code, talking openly to another Witness about any doubts about the writings of the governing body, not voting, or not working in the defense industry.
Witnesses conduct inquisitions on very personal topics such as sexual behaviors and personal entertainments and friends. Baptism dispenses with the right to decent personal privacy. -

What does the Borg want us to perceive next?
by edmond dantes inthe whacktower leaders are the masters of making people perceive falsehood.
for example they promoted 1975 as the conclusion time, the rank and file perceived that 75 would bring the end and when it didn't happen their leaders said "you perceive too much.
" beth sarim was placed in the mind as the place where ancient worthies would return and once again the rank and file were told you perceived wrongly.. the generation with eyes to see perceived 1914 and declared jesus has arrived back we just can't make out what he looks like.

The very obvious message from the Society to the Witness people lately is reinforcement of the concept that the Governing Body representing the "organization" (corporations), has the blessings of God and have the ability to channel with invisible spirits (ghosts).
Another message the Society tries to instill in the Witness people is the concept that the cash donations sent to headquarters by the Witness people is needed and wisely used. I know of some Witnesses who changed their wills after visiting the plush communes of Brooklyn, Patterson, and Wallkill. This is not looking like a little religion founded by Jesus and strapped for cash based on a personal inspection.
I've had Witnesses come home and tell me they changed their wills. "The Society has enough money."
The chant: "The end is near!!!" is not working any more with Witnesses I know. The Society has turned up the volume on the drums, but it's not working here. Many Witnesses I know are working, getting educated, saving, and planning for retirement. Many are enjoying life, with trips, hobbies, and toys, and not being very apologetic about it. The old Watch Tower Society of the Knorr and Franz era is on it's last legs. It's gotta reinvent itself . . . and quick. -

Did the F.B.I. ever Investigate the Watchtower or any of it's leaders?
by Number1Anarchist ini also thought of this yesterday.
j. edgar hoover was in charge for like 50 years and he investigated everyone.
what was his thoughts about the watchtower did he consider them a threat?.

I don't know about the FBI, but I heard a rumor that the justice department shut the Watch Tower Society down and threw the president and all the directors in prison. Do you mean in addition to that?

Quote from 1943 Truth book...
by civicsi00 ini was perusing the 1943 "truth shall make you free" book and i found this on page 302:.
"christ's coming to the temple in 1918 was entirely unexpected, even to his devoted faithful followers.
the truth of his coming then was first discerned by the scriptures and by the fulfillments of prophecy after the event, namely, first in 1922.".

In the field of study of high control groups, it's called re-framing. It works like this: Take that which does not look good in it's present frame . . . and install it in a new frame. The Witness spin and grin society simply followed the Second Advent group's steps in re-framing failure since neither can claim any rational successes.
It's interesting to me that an entire successful business industry was based on error and failure so severe that the founder quit his own group. When that happens in politics what inevitably follows is anarchy and rebellion. When religion based business fails in it's goals, it seems to inspire greater commitment from followers.
