It walks like a business corporation, it talks like a business corporation, it looks like a business corporation, it files tax returns and holds business meetings like a business corporation . . . Hmmmmm . . . Me thinks it's a business corporation.

Time is the enemy as well as the friend of the high control publishers of religious fiction. The biggest thing high control groups have going is the gullibility and stupidity of their customers.
Jehovah's Witnesses I know depend on the aggregate suspension of reasonable personal boundaries. In my opinion the best view of a Jehovah's Witnesses is in the rear view mirror. -

Why do Governements let Churches be Tax Exempt?
by purplesofa ini have been thinking this question for awhile.
as i have started some research(very little, byt ldh thread on extreme home makeover thought it would be good to throw out to the board.. i did not know a qualification for being tax exempt was that they were doing a service to the community.
so, i decided the government does not mind and funds the teaching of religion and it's "goodness" and if you will the monitoring of "morality" the churches do.. part of the service to the community is charity.

I asked myself that too . . . until I realized who runs the (United States) government. :-) -

The Realization That You Are Going To Die
by minimus inyou can't help but feel bad for many long time jehovah's witnesses who believed that "the end" was "right around the corner".
these oldtimers recognize that everyrhing they preached about was wrong regarding the "generation".
they know that they are going to die.

I asked my dad when he was about 75 years old, how it felt to see everything he believed in fail. He didn't even blink before he answered: "I couldn't of had a better life.".
That rehearsed answer told me he'd been thinking about it and he had justified all his wasted effort by rationalizing he had lived this imaginary moral life. Even when asked about his failure, he took the high road. I guess when one lives his whole life in a fantasy, the reflection would have to be a delusion as well.
I kept hoping he would grow up someday and maybe we could have a rational discussion. I tried several times and failed every time. He would have nothing to do with reality.
He shunned me the last 12 years of his life. It's not what I would have wished but I accepted it in time.
You wrote: You can't help but feel bad for many long time Jehovah's Witnesses . . . I don't feel bad for them. They're idiots. They just happen to be old idiots. They worked to get what they have. The ones I DO feel bad for are the kids. -

I think these high control groups like the Jehovah's Witnesses lose all children raised in the group by believing parents at adolescence. At adolescence, the individual has three directions to choose from. One is to rebel openly, to quit complying and quit cooperating. Two is to rebel secretly and plan an exit at a convenient time. The third choice is to deny rational issues and to commit to the group.
Those are the only paths I've seen every child of Witness parents I have ever known take.
The next reevaluation point comes at about age 30.
My real crisis with tolerating the Witness group came from age 26 to age 30. I had three huge disconfirmations close together. I saw the Witness social environment reject me, I saw the failure of the delivery of the promised rewards, and I experienced disrespect and mean treatment from the Witness leaders. It was impossible for me to want to sustain association in an environment where I was lied to, rejected, and bullied.
The Witness group aggregate seemed to forget that the nature of my association was "unpaid volunteer". If ya give too much crap to an unpaid volunteer it's not long before the volunteer quits volunteering. That's what happened. -

What's the nature of sheep? They are a "possession" . . . property. Where are they kept? In a pen.
Yes, sheep are bought, sold, fleeced, fleeced again, counted, slaughtered, skinned, eaten, digested, and passed by process of elimination by the owner's digestive system.
fleeced:
1. To defraud of money or property; swindle.
2. To shear the fleece from.
What would ya rather? BE a sheep or own a sheep?
Here's another problem I've got with Jehovah's Witnesses. I just hate it when some son of a bitch I can't stand calls me "brother". -

Another cattle call!
If the "sheep" are not identified yet, and there are no genuine anointed in most companies, who makes up the "flock" referred to in the article? They refer to sheep(LIKE) but not flock(LIKE). I thought ya had to have sheep to have a flock. What gives?
