This is a very interesting thread in so many ways.
In The Little Prince by Antoine De St Exupery, the behaviour of adults is examined through the prism of a child's mentality, and it says so much about the way we as adults behave, treat each other, and especially children.
Social mores are usually our own, and to expect someone to conform to them is hubris imo. They may share them due to similar background and socialisation, if so we will have some common ground.
I have travelled extensively throughout Europe and the manners displayed can vary quite widely. For instance Germans do frequently get up early in the morning to reserve seats by the pool and then leave and have breakfast or whatever, and this is irrespective of how expensive the Hotels are!! To them this quite is acceptable behaviour. So a tip for fhn, and those of a similar disposition, do not go to Germany if you expect them to share the same mores as you.
The views that many express here speaks volumes about them. The manners that children show is part of their upbringing and not ours. I for one was taught that children should be seen and not heard. This is a viewpoint i loathe, the views of children should be heard.
I am amazed at how judgemental some people are here, surely when left we our former beliefs, we left that behind?.

i was talking to a co-worker who is seventh day adventist and he mentioned the term christendom.
i asked him what he meant by that term and he said it was religions who claimed to follow christ but do not.
i asked him if this included jw's and he said it did as they were part of this false christianity that jesus would one day judge as unworthy.
When this word is used it does require some clarification by the user. it is too nebulous a word. JW's like many organisations use it in a pejorative sense, an 'us and them'. Others use it in a much more embracing way. to include all those of a Christian faith.

so the uk is divided into 4 separate countries - the big bit called england that has wales on the side and scotland at the top with northern ireland off on its own island.. each country has multiple cultural identities.
broadly speaking (and i generalize) the wealth of england (and the uk generally) is concentrated in london, the 'rust belt' is in the middle namely birmingham and manchester and the north of england tends to be poorer.. scotland - where i'm from - is culturally rich but economically poor.
there is a long-standing argument about how wealthy scotland could have been if it had been able to keep all the north sea oil revenue instead of sending it to london.
I love Scrumpy, a dry flat cider.
I live in Hertfordshire. known as one of the Home Counties. We are heavily influenced by London. Many people, from my home town work in London.

i was just typing some of the sessions out for someone (long story), but i heard the tesitmony again, of one of the brothers, who had served at bethel for 12 years.
the thing that was surprising, was that it was not a joyous testimony.
you can actually hear his sadness, and his voice breaking a few times, when he recounts coming back to "the system" (real world) from bethel, and being completely unprepared and untrained for a job, or to earn a living.
Jeeprube, not all window cleaners are impecunious or otiose, i am one, so i should know.
I cringed when i read this assembly experience.

it confused me that my friend was hit and abused by her dull hubby for years and was told by a elder to just put up with it as she was warned not to get involved with him as a teenager (the best way to throw two people together , usually) and she did put up with it for years and finally left him and the religion at the same time , then 8 months later was disfellowshipped for smoking (i thought you could not get disfellowshipped after being inactive for 8 months ) anyway how come hubby was not even told off for hitting his wife but as soon as she had enough and walked and smoked to cope with the stress she was straight out , i think its sexist , anyone know of a guy getting kicked out for domestic violence ?.
Nah Outlaw they need naming and shaming.

i found the recipe in an italian cookbook years ago.
i only made it once, but it was amazing.
it was not "cakey", almost crispy but moist in the center, very thin, in a spring form pan.
I have made Orange Polenta cake, it is scrummie. It had almonds in too. I have it a recipe . I tweaked it a bit too, and steeped the oranges in Grand Marnier. Be warned it highly weight threatening!!
If you would like a copy i will scan mine and pm it to you.
Pm me if it is what you are looking for
