the men in the coven i was in knew how to use a sewing machine quite well.
it was required for first degree work that everyone make a ritual garment.
some covens in the assembly had to make their own tabards, too.

i was talking with a friend of mine on the board yesterday and the discussion gave me the idea for this thread !
( thanks friend !
) and it seems as we were talking the thought came up that many of us when exiting the mind control of jehovah's witnesses we really come to appreciate the freedom to think how we want and be able to have access to other views which helps us to have a broader scope , or broader world view than just the tunnel vision of the wt society.
In addition to almost all of the things that have been listed with regards to finding oneself and no longer being in the thrall of a high mind control group, I enjoy experiencing cultural things which the wts encourage us to eschew. I am lucky enough to live near London, and regularly go for meals there, go to art galleries, see a film, all when i want to and of my choosing. I enjoy the whole scene and often find it challenging.

any of the rhetoric, demands, conciliation, etc., etc., remind you of anything?
wasn't this all how this war started in iraq?
(or the justification for it, anyway?
5th Generation are you serious??
The Brits taught Saddam how to use his chemical weapons on his own dissidents and Iran. We sold him a very expensive ( to him) Air defense system.
The Iranian regime is odious and pernicious, of that there is no doubt, so are so many others, noticeably Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and many others. Will the US invade the House of Saud, from where all the 9/11 bombers originated?
The American right are by and large disingenuous from what I can see, they portray themselves as patriots and want the people to rally around the President unless he is a democratically elected president who is a Democrat, then they call him a socialist and many other inane epithets and try to undermine him, how patriotic is that?
The USA and The West has by the far the best answer to any monolithic regime such as Iran and Saudi Arabia, hard won freedom and a democracy that works

Further to this is Obama's reduction in nuclear warheads with Russia, this will put further pressure on Iran and North Korea. with Russia backing sanctions.
This is an interesting interview Robert Fisk had with Pakistan's most wanted man. Fisk resides in Beirut and very knowledgeable about The Middle East, his opinions and observations are interesting.

As I have stated sanctions rigorously enforced will damage the Iranian regime, whether it changes them is another matter, the lessons of history are encouraging, look at Libya and South Africa. .
It is so not a surprise that Obama is putting bunker busting bombs in forward bases.
BTW it is my very limited understanding that that you can not buy nuclear weapons from the black market very readily, and that if you could they need sophisticated guidance systems to be used on rockets.

my mother called today said i must, must, must go get this book and read it.
i see it every time i go to the book store but thought it had something to do with religion so i didn't want it.
i'm going to get it on friday and read it this weekend just wondered if anyone else had read it..
I am halfway through it and enjoying it.

Whilst I totally understand the commitment of The US to Israel, it does seem to be part of the problem with Iran- US relations. The US seems to be largely uncritical of Israel, thus fuelling Iranian antipathy toward the US further. For instance the tacit support given by the Israeli government for the Sabra and Shatila massacre went largely without comment by the US.
Netanyahu is supporting expansion of settlements on the West Bank, and The US offers little criticism. Iran and Syria are not beacons of human rights, yet the behaviour of Israel further strengthens them, how stupid and sad.

since we have a lot of canadian friends on this board, i have to ask - who are your favorite canadian bands?.
mine is rush.
they have been one of my favorite bands ever since i can remember.. they totally rule........the music and lyrics are all top notch.. the other one is the tea party - jeff martin is a genius.
Blue Rodeo. Joni Mitchell
upon learning that wt was not "god's organization", i was devastated.
for two decades i had spent valuable time building friendships, mostly with jws.
during my stay at bethel, i made many fine friends, some of them very close.
I think you answered the question you posed, in your question. A conditional friend is an oxymoron, if a " friendship" is conditional it is a business relationship really, with terms and conditions.
I like many here have faded, and upon beginning my planned exit, I knew that most if not all JW'S' would not wish to associate with me, that was fine by me; I made the decision to join, and the decision to leave, I did not want to lose the friendship of my JW daughter, so I faded.
I am very fortunate that since leaving, I have formed friendships with 5 lovely people, who are friends in the all senses.
