The Blonde lady is Anne Widdecombe a conservative politician and convert to Catholicism. The Black Guy is John Sentamu I think, the Anglican Archbishop of York - not too sure though.
Do not forget also that Fry is Jewish by birth and homosexual, which is quite germane to the discussion, homosexuality being anathema to the Catholic Church.
Fry's wit, humanity and intellect are shown to great effect here, his arguments are quite incontrovertible, that is why faith is so useful.

when i was in school, acquiring a good, all-around education was stressed constantly.. math, english, science, history, civics, even the bible were taught by competent instructors.. i worked hard, made good grades, and scored well on the act.. then, the jw's came a-callin' and i took after them like a duck after a june bug!.
soon, i noticed with misgivings, that many in the congregation discounted education - some of the speakers' grammar was atrocious!.
if i expressed dismay at this, i was given disapproving looks and counseled on the importance of not being puffed up with pride.. of course, i had nothing of which to be proud, having come recently from the cotton fields, but no one took notice of that.
The denigration of education is about control, end of. I like you ( I think) eschewed education, I was offered a place at a very good university, but did not take it up, and put on the " new personality" , that could be construed as a mistake, and it was, but it was my choice, under the very heavy influence of the numb skull wts.
That being said we can make changes, and educate ourselves even when older, imo education is nearly always a good thing.
The wts teachings affect the poor and women in particular adversely, and that is pernicious and odious.

There are still no aircraft flying in The UK and much of Europe, this is quite serious and is affecting many people. There are lots of people stranded all over the world and has come at a very busy holiday time. The Formula One teams are stranded on China as well. Our largest Airline - Ryanair - is not contemplating flying till next weekend apparently.
There are Americans and Canadians stranded over here too, unable to return.

i was the sign language interpreter for our congregation and there was about 15-20 deaf who regularly showed up.
That is crazy in every which way, just because you are a balls free zone does not mean your brain is the poorer for being such.

At least he gets more pounds for his dollars. I know of two people unable to get home, one is in Mauritius mad another in The Canaries. There are lots of people stranded here too. No flying till tommorow at the earliest. Ryanair, our biggest low cost airline will not fly till Monday at the least. Flights in Italy are affected too. The railways are very very busy. David

I live near Luton Airport, and there are planes often overhead, planes from Heathrow often fly at 10,000 ft over here, it is weird not see them in the sky.

it's one of those movies that words fail utterly to capture--which really is the hallmark of a good movie, i suppose.
Juno is well worth seeing too. I loved Rabbit Proof Fence.

Precious was is very harrowing, went to see it with a friend who is a lawyer and my 16y old daughter, he said afterward it was not unusual to encounter such things when he was training.
An Education is enchanting, very English, and redolent of the late 50's and 60's
