... just a choice some of our former "sisters" have made.
what is the watchtowers view on violent games, or any games for that matter?
recently got an xbox360 for the hubby.
stayed up till 1 am!
They dont seem to like violent video games at all ... in fact they dont like video games in my opinion. I know some JW's think that by playing a game like Diablo 2 they can allow demons to enter into the house! The WTS advice to control game play while very benificial has a underlying reason. Video games, of any form, take away time "better spent" serving Jehovah God and the WTS ... but if you MUST play (they know JW's will) they recomend peaceful ones like tennis, baseball, golf, etc.
Here is a snippet from the January 2008 Awake on Video Games:
.. quote: "...the world wide order of special full-time servants of jehovah's witnesses...sworn to a lifetime of poverty and obedience, he is forbidden any secular employment....living a life of poverty and obedience consstant with the dictates of the order...".
so, who has the thread on the circut overseers getting paid cash monies for their services.. ..
You can search for a topic here http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/search.aspx
Oh and that part about "the World wide order of special Full-Time servants of Jehovah's Witnesses...sworn to a lifetime of poverty and obedience, he is forbidden any secular employment....living a life of poverty and obedience consstant with the dictates of the order..."
Nice opinion on the matter and Welcome salty blood!
for those of you who grew up as a jw (or not) you knew what, according to jehovah/wts, was expected of you in terms of strict morals and conduct.
how many of you never touched a cigarette or smoked while being raised as a jw but suddenly started once you left for various reasons ie just to be rebellious, to fit in with "wordlings", to overcompensate for your restricted youth etc.
i know i did and it feels great except for the nasty smoke smell.
Thanks

Funny thing is I don’t feel any pleasure or anything from smoking and thus I feel I can quit anytime … perhaps its because I started after 19 (Certain studies show that those who try to pick up the habit of smoking AFTER they have left their teens without having ever smoked is really hard)
Here are the two reasons I started
1) To try something forbidden from the WTS
2) I look really young for 20. Really. Perhaphs do to my JW youth everytime I go to the theater (or anywhere that asks for ID) the clerks think I am like 14 or 15 (and you might think that to if you met me) ... then I heard that smoking ages you and your face so I though "Why Not Try?" Well I am 6 months into it and I still look young and still get no real pleasure from smoking ... so now I am seriously considering quiting ...
you know, they always told us to keep things clean and presentable.
there was the suit.
you had to dry clean it, which took time and money.
Simple - I Didn't. Certain things HAD to go by the wayside in order to fully "serve Jehovah." Opportunities we have all tried our best to make up ASAP ...
there are 2 elders in my cousins congregation who are partners in a construction business.
they buy land, build huge homes, live there, and sell 2 years later.
one of them sold his home last year for $860,000 .
THIS IS SO SICK AND YET TRUE
Many in our hall could do better if they simply "left Jehovah" realizing its all a scam! I know one lady in in our congregation in her early 60's who back in her youth opted to skip college and pioneer full time, poor kind soul, she now lives on Section 8 and misses meals every so often so she can afford the bus far from her housing project up to the Crenshaw Congregation. I forsee this outsome soon-to-be for many young ones who are fooling around, not being serious about getting a real education/job/career because the end is near ... yet some of these are the same ones who have gossiped horrible lies about me in the not so distant past ... when reality hits them in 15-20 years (I'll be looooooooooong gone by then) what will I think ... I'll think of it then ...
ok its time to recount all your favorite crazy jw urban legends, ill start i remember this one was told to me after i had left the org, there was a newly married couple, they were good little dubs, evil mother in law lived with them, she did not want to convert or study, well time went on they had a baby, and mother in law was into some spiritual stuff, unknown to jw mommy and daddy.
anyway jw mommy wakes up one night to find little baby dub sitting inside the fish tank with most of the water taken out and there was some kind of evil spirit present, mommy dub yells out jemimas name and breaks free with baby dub.
evil mother in law is asked to leave their happy home.
Speakin of that I know many JW's who feel that there literally is a "at least one demon ruling over every nation" ie China has one, America has one, etc ...
What crazy thinking ... but then again I used to belive it too!
