So, 60 Years Ago
by titch inso, folks, 60 years ago, starting on september 1st, i believe, we, local witnesses in southern california, had the "privilege" of attending the "around the world assembly", at, of all places, the rose bowl, in pasadena.
(i think that it was an 8-day assembly) i was 9 years old then, almost ready to start 4th grade.
so, was anyone else, on this site, at that assembly?

Twitch……that blue book. I remember that book from the ministry school. We would study it over and over again. It actually made you study the literal bible from genesis to revelation. The only meeting my mother would stay home from was the written review. Loved those nights. Thanks for the memory stimulus. -

JW.ORG Needs Lawyers
by Vanderhoven7 injehovah's witnesses are not encouraging university education... but those who are lawyers already can apply to volunteer to help at bethel.. https://youtu.be/5d_-1lbg-oc?si=fsxeewic-fkczu9p.

Many Lawyers are for sale. They don’t have to believe in “their clients beliefs”.You can bet with the “rebranding” of JW.Org. Many lawyers are hired and used. For Gods sake, Donald Trump STILL hires attorneys for his ridiculousness (although they may not ever be paid. They get publicity).
I can’t imagine a JW raised in the”truth” going to college and law school remaining in the chains of indoctrination. They would have to study legal precedents, know the language of law, be released from “circular thinking” and aware of the origin of doctrinal beliefs of this legally defined “cult”. They would also have to accept the 2 witness rule in child rape and the value of a child’s testimony and the life long effects of physical and psychological sexual abuse. I believe there are lawyers who will do that if the money is good enough but Im sure they are regarded as narcissistic and sociopathic.

How Much of Russell and Rutherford is Left?
by NotFormer inrussell is kind of acknowledged as the founder, but rutherford is the one who really made the wt what it is, or at least laid the foundations for what it came to be, today.
how much would someone from that era recognise in the wt today?
what are the big changes that they would see?.

For me….I was born in in 1951. I can hardly recognize JWs today as anything even similar to that of the 50s and 60s onward. They don’t even used a printed Bible anymore but I Pad type things. They are not well versed in scripture nor do they know bible history or even their own history.
I think that Covid is the most recent destroyer of WT B&TS as the 5 meetings a week were stopped along with bible study and meeting preparation…not to mention door-door service which killed the toxic indoctrination flow. It is like being drugged constantly. Once the drug is cut off you emerge from the fog.

Oh boy I remember this assembly. My mom became a jw when I was born (I think she had post partum depression really bad). We lived in So Cal when she came in (studied the Let God Be Found True book). We went to the San Pedro Congregation. It was in an old movie theatre that had a ticket box at the entrance. Wed have to clean constantly as Drunks would piss on the entrance walls.
We lived in Seattle. I was almost 12. My mother and I drove from Seattle to LA in my dads 60 VW. Stayed in a motel with a pool (my salvation).
What I remember was being so tired, bored and HOT. The Rose Bowl was in a dip or low site and there was no breeze and it seemed like no oxygen. I remember fainting standing in line for lunch. I remember sitting and literally baking in the stands. Envious of people with umbrellas. Mother and I worked one day in the SnoCone dept. Mother was passing out the grape flavor so fast (People were dying of heat so everyone wanted one) she accidentally let the sno cone fly and hit the brothers white shirt and stained it with grape. I thought he was going to knock her block off. There were a billion yellowjackets there for the grape flavor. I believe we had that old green songbook and there was an orchestra and a choir. The book was written in 4 part harmony. I could NEVER understand one word from the speakers because the reverb was so bad. Yes. That Babylon Book. I stilll think whoever wrote it was on acid. The book study….the accompanying question book. Pure torture. My mom had a sister friend…she was called by her last name Casey. She had died from throat cancer. She had a boatload of kids. She reminded me of a younger Ma Kettle. Her youngest one was a boy named Sherman. Mother decided she would adopt him. Same age as me. He was a real Eddy Haskell. At school he was foul mouthed and a bully. Quite frankly I was scared of him. At the meetings he would stand at the door and welcome people…”Hello Brother…Hello Sister.” And shake hands. We NEVER did that. I got my mom and said go look at what Sherman is doing. She hauled him outside and had a chat. One night she told him to go to bed. He refused and my other brother put him over his shoulder and was carrying him upstairs. He was screaming dirty words and when Steve put him down Sherman said,”if you ever try that again Ill blow a hole in your stomach big enough to stick your head thru.” He was on a bus to So Cal the next day. Whew!
Thank god our hotel room had an old air conditioner. I think we were exhausted for a month after that.
I remember Billy Graham had a convention at the same time and the front page of the newspapers would print which group had the most attendees. Some one said Grahams people just added the next day count to the first day. To make it look like they Had bigger crowds.
Everyday went from like 9am to 9pm. It was gross, crowded, i couldn’t understand the speakers and it was torture. 8 days.

The women that abandon “The Good News” are a large army
by Aimee.Padilla into be born a woman is a great disadvantage in many parts of the world and much more if she is part of a destructive sect like the jehovah’s witnesses where she is submitted to the “theocratic order” being the base that sustains the corporate pyramid, displaying submission at all times before male authority.
those of us that have been part of this cult can verify that the woman has to carry out a series of practices that for the rest of society is somewhat incomprehensible.
i’d like to draw your attention to the act of head covering, if for any reason a woman has to pray in public while a male is present, who is not available to lead the prayer, she must cover her head because she wouldn’t be respecting the arrangement of authority if she didn’t.

Here is what I think. I read Elaine Pagels The Gospel of Thomas. I truly believe Jesus did come to fulfill the old covenant and make one anew. He hung out with women and they sat at the table with them. The deciples had problems with each other and more with the women. When Jesus died, Paul, who had never meant Jesus hijacked Jesus message and changes bringing back the old patriarchal Jewish teachings he believed in. Paul had position and respect in the Roman community and could recite scriptures at will being an educated man. It was easy to walk over the scattered scared followers who could easily return to the subjection of woman....if only to assuage their battered egos.

Are You Afraid of Contracting The Covid Virus?
by minimus inthankfully my best friend who got this terrible malady is doing well after being in the hospital for more than two months!
i see some people who are still petrified over this virus.
they are still virtual prisoners in their own homes.

I’m not terrified but I am staying home. Vigilant about the mask, washing hand and wearing gloves. Only go to the store when I have to. I really don’t want to suffer from this and then suffocate. I think the virus will end the JWs. Without constant brain washing at the meetings and assemblies they will drift.

Guns...Are You For or Against Legally Owning Them?
by minimus inthere is a surge going on of people buying guns, especially first time buyers.
with talk of police defunding and rioting in the neighborhoods, some people want to protect themselves.. do you support owning and using a gun if needed?.

Don’t have a problem with guns. Just who has them.
