Old JW memories.
by nicolaou inwith all the talk about the book study recently i couldn't help recalling the old 'group' we used to go to from about 1970. i remember the smell of those books, the drone of the study conductor and the struggle - often in vain - to keep my eyes open.. i remember my old ministry briefcase and the kitchen of the sister where we used to meet for field service.
she was my best friends mum.
i can still feel the biting wind at twickenham conventions and the overheated, dehydrating stuffiness of bowes rd assembly hall.. i remember shuffling the snow with my shoes at the doors of homes i didn't want to be at.

We used to have assemblies in high school gyms and those folding benches just killed your butt and no back rests. Guys used to try to look up your dresses. I remember how hot it was at the Pasadena assembly and fainting from heat stroke.

24th Of April- The anniversary of The Armenian Genocide
by justhuman intoday is a day to remember what happened before 93 years in turkey.
over of 1.5 millions armenians were massacred by the turks, in one of the most brudal genocides of the 20th century.
there are no words to describe what savage ways did the turks used against the armenian population.. today 93 years after armenians demand the recognition of the genocide by turkey and international community, the return of the armenians to their ancestral land, and the condemnation and punishment of the crime to prevent the occurance of such crimes in the future.

Hortensia, that is so depressing and yet it is just the tip of the iceberg.

Did/does your Kingdom Hall have a Spanking Room?
by WilliamCoburn ini was hoping to create a poll but i do not see an option for that.
thank you for taking the time to answer.
this is a very important question for me because of personal reasons.

Welcome. I don't believe there was ever an official "spanking room". It was either a bathroom or library or second school room where you could go and smack you kids privately.

WHAT MADE YOU LEAVE? Doctrine or people?
by chuckyy inhi.. just wondering what made you take the final leap out of the org?
was it doctrinal in that certain things just didnt add up or was it because of the actions of people in the org.
that made you leave?

I'm with layla on this. If most really tried to do the WT thing I probably would have never been jousted into "thinking" about doctrine. Once I was launched I was POd.

Is the WT banning vasectomies?
by B_Deserter ini talked to a dub friend of mine who said they had a new "it's a personal choice, but jehovah will kill you if you do it" article about vasectomies.
basically, the reasoning is supposedly that since jehovah gave us our reproductive organs, tampering with them is wrong if not medically necessary.

ugh... plaintive letter to return to the KH
by chickpea ingot a letter today from a really nice guy who was in the bs group that met in my home for 10+ yrs.... privy to some of the huge issues my family has faced.... smart enough guy, ubm, at least one grown kid in and married into a huge 2nd/3rd generation family, grandkids yada yada...... he saw, but did not speak to me, at the school performance i alluded to in another post........ http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/156961/1.ashx......... as far as i know we never even made eye contact..... it was a crowded event in an elementary school but i saw him as he and his wife arrived late and scurried for seating.
at any rate.... this is part of a letter that came in the mail today ..... i cannot believe the spin that the r&f are fed and seem to swallow down without the fava beans and nice chianti ( i do not mean to berate his heartfelt and genuinely offered plea.... i just cannot stomach the blind allegiance to the b0rg) .
i have talked to a few of the friends about what can be done to encourage you and your family and decided to simply put a few thoughts in a letter.

Your response is soooo good. It is so much more kind without a hint of judgement. I just don't know if it's worth the time thinking about him or them. His letter just makes me mad. The old "if you don't do what we want you are gonna die....and sooon!!!!!!" mode. Who really wants to serve God out of fear???? Better to be a mafia wife. If it makes you feel better he probably counted the time he used composing this letter.

I'm sorry and angry on your behalf.
I met a woman who is Bosnian and the leaders of the genocide in Bosnia were found not guilty of war crimes by The Hague. They had rape camps and slaughtered thousands and the dog breed that is native to that area along with many native wildlife are still being decimated by all the land mines that are still there. You don't take a walk in the countryside there. Untill those who commit these horrible crimes against humanity are held accountable I don't know what we can do. (This includes Pres Bush and George Chenny...oh and thank you Bill Clinton for refusing to make landmines illegal).
There should be a lot of pressure put on Turkey and maybe if you write to every one in cong and senate and all world leaders you can begin the change.
There are just so many millions who have been murdered who will never be heard unless someone speaks for them.

I was raised in it. Really didn't like not being able to be "normal". Had some difficulty with some of the concepts but can't believe to this day how I swallowed the Gov Body thing. When I was married my husband and I visited NY and toured Bethel, the farm etc. Rather than confirm my faith it shook me up. Now I don't believe in anything, don't trust anything, working on believing in myself. It wrecked my whole family. Oh well, just gotta keep on truckin.
