  A JW book stand just started near my work

  a jw brother has setup a bookstand in a shopping mall area (outdoor) near my work.

  i must say he's put some effort into creating the counter, and display stand.

  at first i thought it was a coroprate stand selling insurance or something, then i saw "awake".. he had a really comfortable chair, and looked bored watching people walk past.. the local gov allow market stalls there three days per week.

  Biometrics, I'm curious, are you in the US? If so, wow, I've never seen a JW bookstand in a commercial area.

  I can understand the bored look—he needs a partner. I remember my pioneering days: Standing in front of the donut shop at the local strip mall at 7:00am, my Watchtower in hand, chatting away with my pioneer partner, hoping against hope that no one would come up to us and interrupt our conversation, praying that the hour would fly by so we could get inside the shop for our "coffee break" before heading to the meeting for field service.

  No wonder I never had a bible study, lol.

  dis-associated/disfellowshipped - are they the same?

  do you have to formally dis-associate to count as such?

  there seems to be a lot who are hounded to make a formal declaration to a judicial committee.. so my questions are (i would be very interested in references from the wt cdrom) - what is the official stance on those who simply stop going to meetings, do they count as disassociated by their actions?

  should they be treated the same as those who are dis-fellowshipped?

  ok, am i correct in saying that the fds never stated armegedon was coming in 75'?

  however, they led everyone to believe it was coming in 75'?.

  if the latter question is true, can you provide links to talks or articles that point to this?

  To add to the others' eyewitness accounts...
  
  I was a born-in who was 12 years old in 1975. I most definitely remember all of the excitement, anticipation, and false hope during that time.
  
  I also remember that after 1975 came and went, everyone latched onto the idea that Eve was created after Adam, so the creative 'day' continued for a bit, delaying the end of 6,000 years. A publication somewhere mentioned that the length of time between Adam and Eve's creation "logically" would not be more than a few years or even several months, and proceeded to "prove" this with various events like how long it would take to name the animals, blah blah. Does anyone else remember that?

  Anyway, after 1975 I was assured many times by elders and others that I would not finish high school in this system (my graduating class just had our 30 year reunion last year). I guess being a born-in really screwed with my mind; after high school I gave up acceptance to an awesome university and ended up getting baptized. Ugh.

  Born-in, baptized in 1984, stopped going to meetings around 1999. I guess I'm classified as inactive, but not sure. I told my sister in 2006 that I'm gay; she and my mom have shunned me ever since, even though I never had a judicial meeting or notification of any actions taken. Whatever.
  
  I left the US in 2008. I've thought about going through the motions and attending meeting where I live now, in hopes of being able to communicate with my family. However, I quickly abandoned that idea because I know I couldn't stomach listening to that drivel, even in Chinese.
  
  I don't know how those who know it's BS, but stay active, can do it. My hat's off to you.

  i have been lurking on site for some days and thought i would share my story.. i am a warrior wizard, who has had dealings with a jehovah's witness family.

  reading through the posts here i realise that these people shun those those who have left the organisation, that is very sad.

  i was never even given the chance to become a member.

  does anyone here have any suggestions on handling financial abuse of a senior by the watchtower bible and tract society?

  mom gave a lot of money to the watchtower bible and tract society over her lifetime- (6 figures).

  after she ran low on funds she made a 5 figure "conditional loan" to wtb&ts.

  So sorry to hear your mom is going through this; it makes me furious. I'm proud that you're willing to fight in spite of the potential loss of family and friends through disfellowshipping—you know you have a lot of support here! I hope this prompts media coverage big time.
