  So in addition to victims' testimony, the judicial committee gets a confession from the wrongdoer and they choose not believe it, because they are not sure if the wrongdoer really means to confess. How crazy is that?

  He's just trying to save his own ass in this case. Even the Elder book says a confession OR two witnesses is sufficient. He's screwed from both ends on this one.

  1,000 sex abuse cases hidden in Australia for 68,000 publishers...what is it worldwide?

  the press is reporting that over 1,000 cases of abuse were hidden from authorities in australia.. australia has around 68,000 publishers.. if you that ratio applied to the u.s. also, there could be over 14,700 cases that were covered up here.. if the ratio held the same worldwide, that would be over 117,600 cases.. just let that sink in a little..

  Cappytan, it's much worse than that. That's 1006 case files. Each pedophile may have abused more than one child.

  "During the investigation of this case study, Watchtower Australia produced some 5,000 documents pursuant to summonses issued by the Royal Commission on 4 and 28 February 2015. Those documents include 1,006 case files relating to allegations of child sexual abuse made against members of the Jehovah’s Witness Church in Australia since 1950 – each file for a different alleged perpetrator of child sexual abuse"

  And these are just cases that were reported.

  • Rodney Spinks is the senior Service Desk Elder who has served in the Service Department since January 2007.
  • Terrence O’Brien is the Coordinator of the Australia Branch and a director and Secretary of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Australia. He has actively served with the Jehovah’s Witness Church for 40 years
  • Vincent Toole is a solicitor who has, since 2010, overseen the operation of the Legal Department within the Church’s Australia Branch Office. M

  This is amazing, and I'm curious...

  How is it that the elder & ex-Co appeared before this commission? Were they legally required to? How come no JW lawyers were there, I'm quite surprised by that. I'm glad the commission was able to ask blunt and frank questions without JW council weasel-wording their way out of it. How come the GB was able to avoid subpoenas in other court cases? And finally, where did they get the 1,000 abuse records from? Didn't the WT always withhold those files when pressed forthem?

  So many questions, but it gives me hope something like this could happen in the US

  Finkelstein, you don't get it do you?

  There are many of us that are Faders, but we need to keep up appearances for the sake of family. Being able to watch the convention from home without wasting time (more than necessary) or any money is a huge benefit to us. It also doesn't hurt thinking about the fanatically controlling GB and how incensed they are that these videos get leaked.

  i watched/ listened to the brave and courageous souls on youtube who bravely recorded their jc's.

  you really see a different and horrid side to the elders there.

  it might sound whimpy but i don't think i would be able to stand strong like those guys did.

  You need to remember that according to the GB, it's okay to withhold truth:

  While malicious lying is definitely condemned in the Bible, this does not mean that a person is under obligation to divulge truthful information to people who are not entitled to it. Jesus Christ counseled: “Do not give what is holy to dogs, neither throw your pearls before swine, that they may never trample them under their feet and turn around and rip you open.” (Mt 7:6) That is why Jesus on certain occasions refrained from giving full information or direct answers to certain questions when doing so could have brought unnecessary harm. (Mt 15:1-6; 21:23-27; Joh 7:3-10) Evidently the course of Abraham, Isaac, Rahab, and Elisha in misdirecting or in withholding full facts from nonworshipers of Jehovah must be viewed in the same light.

  
  I would say elders are included as those not entitled to know the personal aspects of your life.
