  What's Your Favorite "Goody"?

  milk chocolate covered raspberries or cherries.

  that and milk chocolate raisins.....the stuff you get from a place that makes their own homemade goodies.

  • Scones made with whole-wheat flour, chopped chocolate, and dried cherries. I usually have to make them myself, 'cause this brilliant idea has not occurred to everybody that offers scones for sale.
  • I've been jonesing for hamburgers lately. There's a family-run pizza joint in our little town that makes great juicy burgers with all kinds of doodads on them - the mushroom/grilled onion burger is pretty damn good.
  • Medjool dates
  • Almost anything with Bullseye-style barbecue sauce on it
  • Fresh melons or berries of almost any kind
  • Curly fries
  • Armenian cucumbers in almost any context
  
  
  They're actually a melon, but not sweet, which means they bring a tender, somewhat creamy texture to that cucumber flavor. The ones I buy around here tend to have a smaller seed cavity than this.

  I can't remember where I found the version I use - I remember that it's "Cuban style" - but it's basically bell pepper, tomato, onion and garlic fried together; then you stir in tomato paste. I use red, orange or yellow bell peppers - but not green. I love to keep some around as a condiment. Makes a great sauce to smother pork chops in; I did that tonight.

  I'm with Leolaia about the pickles, but I didn't have any today. So it was a big fat frankfurter-on-steroids (only without actual steroids). Slice it lengthwise and fry it; I got two sandwiches out of one frank. With mustard, mayo, and homegrown tomato and cucumber on homemade wholewheat bread. Yummmm

  I just moved to Tie Dye Town where, even though all four major burger chains are represented, everybody's hip to the health foodz. Somebody's buying those burgers, but...

  Today I went to a little harvest festival where people were pressing fresh grape juice (from Chardonnay grapes, yet), passing out samples of home-fermented pickles (yes, fermented, not cooked in vinegar brine), and selling goji plants and raw-food platters. It was wonderful.

  And on the way home, I bought two packs of Zenner's sausages. Tomorrow I'll have one for lunch, split, fried and laid tenderly on homemade bread slathered with mayonnaise.

  If there is a ROAD to paradise that starts at the back of the store and CROSSES the gap, then why isn't there a BRIDGE? You don't build a road over a ravine without bridging the damn gap as part of the construction project!

  Feeling like such a horrible parent.

  took my children to the park last night, as my daughter requested.

  we walked to the park, overcome with this feeling of something bad was going to happen, but shrugged it off and proceeded to the destination.

  we were there for only 20 minutes, as i was helping my 4 year old son, my daughter fell off the bars.

  Taking her home calmly, trying to treat it yourself and seeking professional help as soon as you saw you needed it – in less than an hour – that was GOOD PARENTING.

  Making her wait for several days, and then scolding and berating her when you were forced to drag her to the hospital – that would have been horrible parenting. A number of the posters here remember childhood experiences like that.

  Dude, didn't your daughters ever play dress-up? Buy little plastic high heels? Buy and wear (and then eat) candy "lipstick"? Is that "sexualizing" little girls? I did all that and was a virgin when I married.

  Odds are this sweet little tyke will pull the shoes off and try to eat them.
