did any of you ever miss the memorial while you were in?
i missed 2 of them.
once i had a very serious staff infection in my leg and i could not wear any pants or shorts because it ran all the way up my thigh.
I never did, until I decided to leave. Yes, I watched the plates and glasses go by about 25 times.
My husband missed one Memorial in the 25 years he was associated. It may have been the one after he was disfellowshipped - I can't remember. He was DF'd in '85 and reinstated a couple years later, so he attended one memorial in his DF'd state, poor zealot....
Oh, he's not a zealot now. He's much better

Well, nothing but getting um elevated and watching the blinkenlights. Unless we change our minds and decide to go out and see Bad Santa.
2 weeks ago we went to Monterey and cooked dinner for a friend of my daughter's who gave us a tour of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and later initiated her into the joys of oh never mind. He's good people and she was ready. I didn't even hear about that part until a couple days later. Congrats & merry Christmas!
Last week we went to my son's commune house and had fun with the little boy who is its youngest member. The vocabulary word of the day was "similar." (He's 2 1/2.) And oh the mysteries of vanishing crayon points and dinosaurs. He didn't want to hear that the dinoraurs are dead. "Oh no! Some dinosaurs are fine." My husband was so charmed by the rest of the family that he's going back down after the New Year to help them tinker with their house.

When I left, I questioned everything I had believed; first the JW doctrines, then the Bible itself.
Nothing was left standing except the Golden Rule.
Even theism collapsed. I went on to read as much of the Internet Infidels website as I could stand, and convinced myself the atheists were right.
If I hadn't heard god laughing at that point, I would still be an atheist today.
But, as a theist, I still think the atheists are right.

I don't like any of the artists' proposals; they all look like self-indulgent gallery pieces, totally out of keeping for the theme of the square. True, they are - or may be ;) Actual Art, but they'd be better suited to a museum than Trafalgar Square.
Trafalgar Square is a piecemeal monument to British achievement and history. The whimsy of the artists' proposals clashes with the rest of it.
I think the Fourth Plinth should commemorate some Briton who won the Nobel Peace Prize. Or should have won, but didn't.

i consider myself to be an agnostic, and i don't really find the need to "speak" to any particular god.
however, i am going through a custody battle with my ex-wife and a good part of the issue is religion... namely my strong desire to not have my children raised as jehovah's witnesses.
i don't really foresee this happening but if the judge ordered that i had to bring my children up with some sort of respect for god, i wonder which religion i would choose.. when you respond, please state if you are currently affiliated with the religion you are mentioning.
The Unitarian Universalist Association welcomes agnostics and atheists into its ranks. Even ordains them as ministers; one of the best UU ministers I know is an "out" atheist.
