Well, you know, I wasn't expecting anything this year, which made the few gifts I did get that much more impressive.
I did buy myself a couple of flashy, inexpensive Christmas tree pins on eBay, and some books, and several varieties of tea at a shop near my job. Apparently my gramma's annual $50 check is in the mail, so I'll send her a nice note and tell her that's what she got me.
My sister has no money, really, so she baked good stuff for all her dear families. She lives across the country from me, so my goody box got shipped 3,000 miles for extra emotional zip. Plenty of Christmas charge in that box of pumpkin bread, shortbread and peanut butter cookies! And it's all gone now; we were too lazy to cook, so it was our Christmas dinner.
And we got to stretch Christmas out for two weeks by going to visit my daughter's friend in Monterey and my son in Atascadero.
I have a medical cannabis card, so I was delighted to get some kif from a friend. He had collected it himself and realized it was too potent for him -- the most spectacular impulse gift I've ever received.
So, by lowering my expectations, I made out like a bandit. Funny how that works.
