When my dad died his service was so impersonal. The best thing about it was the family pictures set all around the room. A brother I had never met gave the memorial, he was a friend of my step mother's. None of his family are Witnesses. He had 9 brothers and sisters. It would have been nice to be able to give memories, read a favorite poem, or play his favorite Jimi Hendrix song. I remember feeling it would never end, and as the bro preached away, my aunt was shaking her head no the whole time. My grandma didn't even go, she didn't want to hear it. She stayed home and looked at old pictures and cried.

JWs funerals.......forget about the dead person lets preach!
by new boy ingod forbid you would talk about the person at his funeral............what do most people get after living 70-80 years..........a 5-10 minutes eulogy....................the transition statment is "let me tell you about what fred really believed in".............................45 minutes later.....that way the specker can count his time.. as we know people in the organization are unimportant living or dead.

I am so sorry about your brother's death, and everything you experienced this summer. My family is praying for you.
Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there... I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow...
I am the diamond glints on snow...
I am the sunlight on ripened grain...
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you waken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of gentle birds in circling flight...
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry—
I am not there... I did not die... -

Good Morning BFD!
Are you sore today? I miss the vegie garden, not the work. I always had one in Utah, but here in TN I have trouble with bugs, weeds, etc. I now support local farm stands! And I have beautiful roses. How cold is it there? We'll be about 60 today.
I have been up since 6, went to the grocery store for the week. Sticker shock!! But I am feeding 3 kids...Dad is making breakfast. I think my in-laws will come up for a BBQ later.
Have a great day!!!

Help - running out of "excuses" for not attending meetings
by truthseeker inmy situation as some of you know, i'm married and my wife is a jw and still wants to go to meetings.
i on the other hand do not.. over the last few years, i have suffered with poor health and i also studied, so when i was studying i would say "i'm at college/doing homework/taking exams" which for the most part was true.. i also have ill health, suffer with chronic chest infections for part of the year.. trouble is, people at the hall are having a hard time buying my excuses, or if my wife tells them the reason i'm not there, they now start giving her the eyeroll, or they say to her "well, you're here and so am i.".
not one of the elders calls to see where i am, what they can do.

truthseeker,
My husband and I lived that way for 8 years, I have recently left. I just asked him for an excuse, and he said to tell her the truth. That's what he did, 2 days before we left for a DC. I went alone with two kids, he started a job on the road. Now recently he always said no when we asked him to go. I had brothers bug me about where he was. I told them I was here, I don't know why he's not.
Just tell her and all who ask that you've decided not to go to anymore. Your wife probably deserves some explaination, her being your wife and all. I did appreciate that when he was home he helped get the kids ready and never tried to stop me from going.

I have a set of paper dolls my grandma made me in the 70's. She drew every outfit, different hairstyles, everything. We also have sketches she did of us as kids, as well as several oils her and her dad did. My daughter has a half done oil painting, Grandma died before she could finish it. When she died people asked for paintings she had done that were still on the wall. They give us a little bit of her, and a peek deep inside her soul. They keep us close to her. When we moved last year, her pictures were the first I hung.
As you can tell, I say do it. A little bit of you will go into every stroke. They may not appreciate it right off, depending on their ages. But they will eventually.
