in the interest of self-healing and finding the peace that comes from being grateful, can you think of anything at all that was positive about having been one of jehovah's witnesses?.
not to be misunderstood with missing something about it, is there something about the experience that has enriched you?.
to answer the question myself, being forced to face the fallacies of the teachings of jwism, i was also prompted to look past those teachings and reevaluate everything i believed in.. that experience was frightening and unsettling, but i'm thankful for it.. i now have a greater appreciation for life in all its wonder than i did when i took it for granted as one of jehovah's witnesses.. i'm more determined now to find meaning in this life, after having lived for so long for a future that was never to arrive..
I got to travel alot as a kid. I'm also pretty good with a soldering iron ( my dad did sound at builds ). I have some great memories as a kid, some horrible ones. But all of them shaped who I am now. CRAZY

my wife's sister is in town.
they come to town maybe once every 5 years or so, as they live a considerable distance away.
today i discovered that they are in town, out to dinner last nite, and didn't even tell my wife [or i] or invite her along.
Jeff? Are you there?
It's beautiful you are so mad for your wife's sake. Take her out to dinner, give her a rose, put her in a bubble bath and try to talk her into letting you make her feel better. Or tomorrow go for a nice drive and have brunch.
Unfortunately with the JW's, it is now you and your wife alone. So enjoy it and strengthen the bonds of the team.
PS I know from what I speak.

how many of you who have left the wto and haven't become associted with some other religion have found that they feel a real sense of spirituality for the first time in their life?.
chappy.
I feel so much more spiritual than I ever have in my life. I actually got goosebumps reading the Gospel of John, not the NWT version. I found that salvation requires so much less than the Society says, and yet so much MORE. I feel free and I am so glad my children are free.

i hope you don't mind me posting.
my sister has been a witness for it must be 25 years.
when they came calling years ago she was at a low ebb and had been trying to read the bible but failing to understand it.
Welcome Msiajw,
My husband left the org. 8 yrs before I did. He didn't like the hypocracy and backbiting. It took me a long time, I was raised as one, to come to my senses. It took the blood issue and rules that had no basis in the Bible. Everyone has to come to their own conclusion in their own time. My sister left when I did. I never saw it coming as she was the one who was such a stickler for JW's. She was even married to an elder.
All I can suggest is to do your research on the religion and use your knowledge to correct her when she states a "fact". She is trained to not listen to anyone but the org. Everyone else is a pawn of Satan trying to mislead her. Show her love and support. But be prepared to correct falacies which may come up. As your sister, she may be more inclined to listen to you.
Good Luck,

i was a j.w for 38 years did'nt do a fade just "checked out and left" that was 7 years ago .. wife still a j.w so still have the elders ask why?.
i started to explain to one he went into lock down mode so why bother.. i'll defend the j.ws to the end for things i fell are right but wont stand idly by and say nothing when i know what they are saying is wrong.. that's got me into a lot of trouble.. karter.

Tell us tomorrow what he says. You may end up being buddies, some stars really like it when people tell them when they are acting dumb. They get sick of yes people.

the mormons are one of history's most amazing demonstrations of the power of sticking to a story and.
getting people to believe in nonsense by well maintained habit.
or as they observed on "south park".
I was raised in SLC and have several family members who are Mormon. I agree with you. The kids I went to school with were proud to be Mormon and showed of their CTR rings. They had educational classes for newlywed wives to teach practical homemaking. Every child is expected to go to college of some sort, even if the women married soon after their boyfriends got home from their missions. The majority of my friends that were Mormon had close families. But it was funny when Mom and the oldest daughter were having kids at the same time. In high school they have one period a day where they go learn about the faith, or seminary. It was held in a seperate building on the school grounds usually. And they usually had some organized sports program going at the church across the street from my house. I was so jealous. Family is really stressed because they feel families are eternal. My G-pa is sealed to his current wife and his late wife, meaning they will all be one big happy family in heaven.
There is alot about them that is cooky, but for everyday living I think they have it together.
